2026 Toyota RAV4 SUV — The Ultimate in Luxury, Rugged and Sports SUV
The all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4 enters its sixth generation with a complete redesign, offering three distinctive styles—Core, Sport, and Rugged—spread across seven grades. The lineup includes a refreshed Woodland edition and the debut of the first-ever GR SPORT trim for the U.S. market. For the first time, every RAV4 will be electrified, available exclusively as a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
The GR SPORT, developed with Toyota GAZOO Racing, brings a motorsports-inspired look and performance, featuring GR-tuned suspension, aggressive styling, a powerful AWD PHEV drivetrain, and enhanced body rigidity. The Woodland edition returns as a standalone rugged model, now available in both HEV and PHEV variants, with a higher ride height, all-terrain tires, standard AWD, and unique grille design.
A newly developed PHEV system powers the 2026 RAV4, producing up to 320 horsepower and offering a manufacturer-estimated 50-mile all-electric range—up from 42 miles. The hybrid system also gets upgraded, with fifth-generation technology delivering 236 hp in AWD models and 226 hp in FWD models. For the first time, FWD is offered on the hybrid RAV4. All PHEV models now come with standard AWD and four available grades: SE, XSE, Woodland, and GR SPORT. Fast-charging capability is standard on the XSE and Woodland grades, enabling charging from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
Built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, the new RAV4 improves ride comfort and handling thanks to a more rigid structure and refined suspension mounting. New high-damping adhesives also help reduce road noise. The exterior continues to highlight RAV4’s SUV proportions with bold bodywork, functional roof rails, larger wheels, and a refined hammerhead front design. At the rear, new LED taillights enhance its width and modern look.
Inside, the 2026 RAV4 focuses on user-friendly functionality with a smartly organized center stack, available shift-by-wire gear selector, and upgraded multimedia system powered by Toyota’s new Arene software platform. The new interface also supports Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, bringing the latest driver-assist technologies.
Under the hood, the hybrid models use a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and an updated power control unit. The PHEV system adds a high-capacity battery and upgraded silicon carbide semiconductors for greater efficiency. AC charging is faster, with up to an 11-kW onboard charger available.
Utility gets a boost too. AWD HEV models in the XLE, Woodland, SE, XSE, and Limited grades, as well as PHEV SE, XSE, and Woodland trims, can now tow up to 3,500 pounds. FWD variants and the LE AWD model offer a 1,750-pound towing capacity.
The sixth-generation RAV4 continues a legacy that began in 1996, evolving into a best-seller by blending everyday practicality with SUV capability. The 2026 model brings that legacy into a new era of electrification and modern design.
The new RAV4 is expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships later this year, with pricing to be announced closer to its release.
