Part of me feels like it was a lifetime ago, the other part it feels like yesterday. I still think about and miss him every day. I always will.The excruciating pain I felt when he died by suicide is indescribable. He had a long-time battle with his mental health, and unfortunately succumbed to it. I didn't know how to handle it back then, and I myself went down a long road of deep depression and experiencing suicidal thoughts. Over and over again I'd ask myself: What could I have done differently? Should I have asked more? Said more? Made him get help? Is it my fault? Would he still be here if I did things differently? These questions, and many more, I played over and over again in my head. Day after day I read your suicide letter to me, because honestly- it was the only thing keeping me going at that time. The only thing that rid myself of some blame- because it was just full of love for me.You've missed so much in the last 10 years. I got my degree in Psychology and worked in mental health. I helped other military members and veterans get the help that they need. I am now a mental health crisis responder and answer crisis calls every day. We ended up texting this question to family members, and unfortunately for me, everyone was siding with Mark that "ee-ah-go" is the correct pronunciation. Tbh I think he's right, but I've said "yah-go" since I was a kid, and I will DIEEEE on this hill. It turned into such a ridiculous debate that this video was created. I went through all 3 Aladdin movies, and listened to every time Iago's name was said. I did my best to unbiasedly decide which pronunciation each was closest to. Do you agree with my tallies?I think the thing is that the letter "y" begins with an "ee" sound, hence why I hear that. The thing that differentiates the two for me is when a character clearly says sharp-sounding, enunciated "ee"s. When they are a softer "ee" sound or say it quickly, I hear it as "yah-go". I wasn't sure I was capable anymore; any inspiration and motivation to edit just disappeared. I thought I hit the age when I couldn't edit anymore, and I thought for a while that maybe it was time to move on. I've had a large amount of significant life changes in the past year, and I've really had to work on my mental health. Now that I'm doing better, my desire to edit came back.Many of you may know about my late boyfriend, Josh. He died 5/18/13 at just 23 years old. This April he would have turned 32. This time of year is always hard for me, and I was inspired to let out those emotions through editing... so this video was made. I think he would have really liked it.The timing on finishing this video couldn't have been more appropriate either... this morning my granddad passed away. So although this video is dedicated to Josh, it's also now dedicated to my Papa Neil. He's been very sick the past few years, so honestly it's a blessing that he's finally passed... but it doesn't make it easier to deal with when it finally happens. Doing the final touches on this video was difficult and brought new meaning to the project.I don't know how active I'll be moving forward. I'm giving myself zero expectations to edit, and if I do, then great. It might be a video a year, it might be every month, it might come in bursts, I don't know. I do have some personal family videos in the works; I know that's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's something I'm focusing on moving forward.Thank you to all of you who are still here and still follow me. It tends to happen to me maybe once a year, and is kind of a combination of self-doubt and feeling disconnected from the editing community. I think a lot of it stems from many things happening IRL the past couple of months. A lot of not good stuff. Therefore I've had almost zero time or inspiration to edit. But having a forced break from editing always tends to bring on the "editing blues" for me, and tend to go away again once I get back into the swing of editing.For yeeears I've been struggling with feeling fairly disconnected with the editing community. The community has grown and changed, and I feel like i've just been sitting in my little corner and was left behind. Like if I stopped editing on this channel completely, people wouldn't care. Like I'm just getting old and I should have called it quits ages ago. I just miss a lot of my old editing friends, I miss how things used to be sometimes.I know this is all stupid, and I really should stop with the pity party. You get what you put into it in the editing community: The more involved you are, the more interaction and feelings of inclusion you get back.I think once things slow down, I'm gonna try doing a better job of reconnecting with people, and focus more on individual projects. I've been doing a better job of taking less MEP parts (particularly after the ext hdd died- recovery of stuff is going fairly well by the way).. But I'm going to put even more focus on personal projects, learning new programs and new techniques, just bettering myself in general. Due to the complicated theme of this MEP we were allowed to focus on any aspect of the literary couple's relationship: Their whole storyline, a particular chapter, or even a specific scene. So I picked this kiss scene that I waited yeeears for! :)I know it's definitely not perfect. I was really hoping to use AE to help me with these manips, and AE has crapped out on me (so bad that it needs to be reinstalled)- so all of this was made with SVP. Kill me, ugh. There are definitely some little issues throughout, but the longer I worked on this, the more burnt out I got- so I just wrapped it up as quickly as I could. I realized too late into this that I hadn't made Harry's eyes green- but hey, Dan couldn't wear the green contacts for the movies- so I don't feel too bad, haha. Also I don't know the first thing about animating hair (let alone creating my own shirts, pants, etc too)- so I apologize for Hermione's curls looking like a bowl of ramen. Anyway, I really hope you guys like this anyway. I wanted to use as many animated movies as I could, to touch on all of the emotional aspects of each of them. Now this video doesn't exactly have any kind of regular theme to it, as I'm sure you can tell. I guess it's just to showcase the good, bad and the ugly of all different types of relationships. I just edited whatever first came to mind for each set of lyrics.I strayed from adding too many 'extra' things to this, so sorry if this comes across as plain: I did a minimal coloring, no overlay, very little pan cropping, no brightness fades and instead just a brightness dissolve transition, etc. Basically the cover of this song felt emotional, raw, and stripped down to me. So I wanted to do the same thing for my video.This PHENOMENAL cover was done by Davina Michelle, and it sends chills down my arms when I listen to her. She has such a delicate yet gritty voice, with a powerful edginess that brings tears to my eyes. Does that sound sappy? Yes. Buuut it's true.Anyway, I'm really glad I was able to be inspired to do a longer personal project (spent 3 days on this), and I'm so glad I was able to showcase some of my favorite movies that I haven't edited with before- like Megamind and Meet the Robinsons.
