As we turn there, think with me. . . how did David the shepherd boy, a man after God’s own heart, arrive at such an incredible understanding of the Word? Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. (KJV) In Hebrew hashe-mayim mesaperim-kevoth-ale The heavens are shouting the glory of their Almighty Creator God. WHEN YOU COME TO PSALM 19, GOD SAYS THE HEAVENS ARE SHOUTING THE WONDERS OF THEIR CREATOR!As a boy, David must have chosen to focus his heart on studying God’s two great books: NATURE and SCRIPTURE. Think of this: so careful was David’s study of these two books that he compared and contrasted them. What a place it must have been with all of the glow of Creation unshrouded by sin. Every creature was good, every part of the universe was singing the glory of God. No groaning under the burden of sin was yet present from the creation. But then something drastic happened. What? Adam’s and Eve’s sin. Look at Genesis 3 with me. (3:1-2) Message # 2: pride: the weakness of satan. God is in an all-out war against PRIDE this morning. He wants to stamp it out in our lives this morning. Let’s let Him give us an exam this morning and help us cure our “I” problem today! Humility is an ingredient of all spiritual blessings. Just as pride is behind every conflict we have with other people and every problem of fellowship we have with the Lord, so humility is behind every harmonious human relationship, every spiritual success, and every moment of joyous fellowship with the Lord. (3:1-5) Message # 3: AVOIDING THE DEVIL’S TRAP. Now, to the scene of the last Adam. How unlike the 1st Adam is this last Adam.The Devil challenged the first man. The Last Man challenged the Devil.The Devil ruined the first Adam. The Last Adam spoiled the Devil.The First Adam stood as the head of the race and falling, dragged the race down with him. The Last Adam stood as the Head of the new race, and being victorious, lifted that race with Him.The 1st Adam’s work of causing death could be undone and was at the Cross. In Hebrews 11.23-24, Moses saw God, and it made him satisfied and no longer discontented. He depicts the type of servant the Lord needs. Three aspects of his life bear noting in our study. Genuine ministry for God will always build on these elements. We find the glory of God 12x in chapters 1-11 but zero times in 12-42. Why? His glory departed!1. God's servants are SUBMITTING to God. Ezekiel 1:3 the word of the LORD came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and there the hand of the LORD came upon him. (NASB); Ezekiel 1:20 Wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go in that direction. And the wheels rose close beside them; for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. (NASB)2. They saw everything in one place: God's Attributes were Illustrated, and Christ's Power was vividly portrayed. God wanted His Church to know the plan, so He sent it as the conclusion to the Bible. The first word in the Greek New Testament text of Revelation is the word apocalupsis, which can be translated as either “revelation” or “unveiling”. The next two words are Jesus Christ. That means in this last book, we are: Getting to See The Real Jesus: So we are opened to the “revelation of Jesus Christ”, or the “taking the cover off of Jesus Christ”, or the “disclosure of Jesus Christ”, or the “manifestation of Jesus Christ”, or the “unveiling of Jesus Christ” the Word of God. There is so much to think about as we open to these Last Words of Christ, God's Word.Revelation completes God’s revelation of Himself to humanity through Christ. In Genesis, the Creator, God the Son, walks and talks with Adam and Eve, the first two humans to ever exist, created at God's hand. But God does not stay walking and talking to them. Because they sinned, He banished them from the Paradise He made for them. Thus began all the sorrows and woes that have plagued humanity for thousands of years.But in the book of Revelation, the Creator explains that He is back, actively walking on Earth again, among His people. The Book of Revelation explains that God the Son, Jesus Christ the Creator, is on the ground guiding His Church to accomplish His purposes in the world. Much like a coach on the floor with his team, Jesus Christ walks around and watches us play the positions He gave us. That is perhaps the most arresting truth in all the Bible for us. We are not alone. THE MOST ASTOUNDING PROPHECY IN THE BIBLE John Barnett Online Teaching 2024-10-15 | Now, for a moment, move back to Isaiah 45:1. One of the Most Astounding Biblical Prophecies—A person is named in v. 1 as Cyrus. Cyrus is an identifiable person in history, mentioned also in II Chronicles 36, Ezra 1-4, and Daniel 1-10. Cyrus ruled Persia from 559 to 530 BC. There is nothing extraordinary so far, except when you look back at when Isaiah wrote this chapter. For the biblical facts, look at Isaiah 6. When did Isaiah start writing? “The year that King Uzziah died”. When was that? 739BC. That date happens to be exactly 200 years BEFORE Cyrus was the King that Ezra & Daniel are writing about. Let me give you a modern equivalent to help that event sink in. Russia recently elected a man named Vladimir Putin to be the next President of Russia. On March 18, 2024, Putin won the presidential elections of Russia. That is just a fact of history. But, for a well-known and recognized servant of God to have publically predicted that momentous event in writing 200 years ago would be astounding. Three very well-known and godly men lived 200 years ago. Most of us in this place have heard of one or more. They are pioneer missionaries to India William Carey, American missionary Adoniram Judson, and famed orphanage founder and man of faith George Muller of Bristol, England. So, all three of those servants of God were alive 200 years ago. THE BOOK THAT CAN COMPLETELY CHANGE YOUR LIFE (BYT-10) John Barnett Online Teaching 2024-10-13 | WHAT WERE THE SEVEN PROOFS THAT VERIFY THE SCRIPTURES?I. JESUS BELIEVED THE SCRIPTURES- Jesus taught, acted, and instructed on the basis that this Book he taught from that he quoted and studied was true. He often said, “Search the Scriptures,” and “have you not read” A. Who said that?1. The One Who Created all things Genesis 1:1 and in John 1 it says: In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God- the same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him- that’s Christ- so the creator of the universe is the One that said that this Book is to be trusted. He’s also-2. The One Who Stilled Raging Seas Mark 4:39 Now there aren’t many people that talk to the water- that talk to raging storms. But when the creator does they listen. And the One who not only made all things but controls the physical universe that we know- said that this Book you can trust.3. The One Who Quelled the terror of disease also said that you can trust this Book- Mark 5:34 And she had been bleeding for years and was near death. He quelled the ravages of disease and the One who made everything from nothing and the One who controls every thing and the One who can even speak and disease responds- believed this Book. So if you believe this Book you’re in good company. I’d rather be with God because you and God make a majority.4. The One Who Halted the grip of death is the One who believed this Book- it says in Luke 8:48-56: You know there are a lot of faith healers in the world- do very many of them go to the morgue and take lifeless, cold corpses by the hand and lift them up and see life course back into their bodies? That’s what Jesus did and Jesus believed this Book and that’s what his apostles did and as we’ll see in a moment they believed this Book.5. The One Who Calmed fearful hearts- John 6:19-20: So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, -they were 1/3 of the way out into the Sea of Galilee and the storm was so big that the water was tormented- in other words it was going in every direction and just foaming- it was such a violent storm and it was coming into the boat and sinking them- and they were trying their hardest and they weren’t getting anywhere and out of the corner of their eye- they see Jesus walking on the sea, - on a mirror calmness- I mean that would make the hair stand up on the back of our necks- I’ve never seen anybody walk on water. I have seen in my mind through faith- but have never experienced it- and you can see every footstep He put down- just calmed the raging sea- they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. –and that’s lightly speaking- it says they were out of their minds- I mean worse than having a storm outside is to have someone walking on the water and have them get into your boat and it scared them- 20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. (KJV) what’s neat is where ever you are and whatever storm and whatever boat you’re in that’s sinking if you just let Jesus in your boat you don’t have to be afraid. WHAT HAPPENED AT THE CRUCIFIXION WHEN THE EARTHQUAKE SHOOK OPEN GRAVES IN MATTHEW 27? John Barnett Online Teaching 2024-10-13 | Point-1: Jesus Showed Death Was Subduedand the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many. (Matthew 27:52–53)The sixth miracle at the crucifixion was closely related to the previous one, as the supernatural earthquake not only gave the world a foretaste of divine judgment but also caused many tombs to be opened.The significant miracle of that event, however, was not the mere opening of tombs, as could occur during any earthquake. The great miracle was that many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. After the veil of the Temple was torn in two and the earth around Jerusalem was violently shaken, the Lord selectively raised the bodies of certain believers who had died.Matthew points out that many, but not all, bodies of the saints who had died were resurrected, making clear that this resurrection was divinely restricted to a limited number of believers. They had trusted in God during the time before and under the Old Covenant, and some of those bodies may have been in their graves many hundreds of years. When Jesus died, their spirits came from the abode of righteous spirits and were joined with their glorified bodies that came out of the graves. This was full and final resurrection and glorification, making this miracle another foretaste of God’s sovereign work during the end times, when “all the dead in Christ shall rise” (1 Thess. 4:16).It is important to note that the phrase and coming out of the tombs should be followed by a period, indicating the close of the sentence. After His resurrection begins a new sentence and introduces a distinct truth, namely, that those select resurrected saints then entered the holy city and appeared to many.Those saints did not appear in Jerusalem until after the Lord’s own resurrection, because He was divinely appointed to be “the first fruits of those who are asleep” (1 Cor. 15:20). And just as Christ Himself appeared after His resurrection only to those who already believed in Him, it would also seem that the many to whom the resurrected saints appeared were all believers. We are not told what they said to their brethren in the holy city, but their appearance in bodily form not only testified to Christ’s resurrection but also to God’s promise to raise all those who put their trust in Christ (1 Cor. 15:22, 51–53).Through those six miracles the Father was saying that the cross is the only hope for eternal life. When one’s sin is carried away by Christ’s atoning death, the wrath of God is appeased for that believer, and he is delivered from the death and condemnation that the Lord endured on his behalf. There are some popular views some Christians hold that are very dangerous:Evolution is the Satanic religion of the Fall, Cain, Babel, idolatry, paganism, humanism and all other evils. Even the Darwinism of Evolution has been proven in a legal setting to be devoid of scientific support. As Dr. Phillip Johnson says in his book Darwinism on Trial, “at every step I, what I found was a failure of the evidence to be in accord with the theory. . . the fossil record is something the Darwinists must explain away because it records the sudden appearance of organisms that exhibit no trace of step-by-step development from earlier forms. And once these organisms exist, they remain fundamentally unchanged . . . “ The Gap Theory destroys Adam’s original sin. Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because all sinned -- (NKJV) It puts him at the head of a creation that sits atop a multi-billion-year-old graveyard of fossils. This monument to sin, death and destruction before Adam is incongruous to the Word of God.The Age Day Theory destroys the reliability of the text. It is repeatedly stated and believed by the Scripture writers that the account of Gen 1 is true. The age Day Theory states the sun had to come before the fourth epoch. This Ruler was to • would come to power in Europe• would take control of a land called Germany [in 1700, it was called Prussia]• would be named Adolph Hitler• would conquer the continent• and would be defeated by the Allied ForcesNow notice the year was 1700, and there were no• Allied Forces, America was a Colony of Britain• There was barely a Germany • and Hitler was not to be born for 200 years!Now, turn to Isaiah 41 to see why this description is so important. This is another demonstration of God's power as shown through His Word. Isaiah 41:21 "Present your case," says the LORD. "Bring forth your strong [reasons,"] says the King of Jacob. (NKJV)Now look at Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever." (NKJV) God has staked His very character on the perfection and permanence of His Word! Look at His character revealed in v. 12-31. So God declared that:1. Because Idols are foolish Isaiah 40:18 To whom will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him? (NKJV)2. Because God is eternal and powerful Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but our God's word stands forever." (NKJV)3. Let me show you My power Isaiah 41:21-23 "Present your case," says the LORD. HOW CAN WE KNOW IF THIS IS THE FINAL GENERATION? John Barnett Online Teaching 2024-10-12 | The FINAL Generation: Psalm 83 & God’s Plan for the Future. Prophecy points us to Christ, the author of history and the theme of Scripture. God's Word is, at its very center, prophetic.The God who recorded the beginning that no one but Him witnessed in Genesis is also the God who recorded the ending that no one but Him could have ever written in Revelation.Isn’t it amazing that God devotes 1/4th or 25% of the Bible to the inseparable union of the world’s destiny with God’s Chosen People of Promise, Israel, Jerusalem, and the Jews? Always remember: THE CENTRALITY OF ISRAEL IN THE BIBLE.Using just an ordinary Bible with no study notes (my Bible is 1100 pages long), you find that:600 pages (Genesis to Song of Solomon) are Israel’s origin, history, wanderings away from God, and worship (that is 600/1100 pages or) 54%; and250 pages are devoted to the prophets (Isaiah to Malachi) that speak of the doom coming first to Israel then and the world in the future (that is 250/1100 pages or) 23%; and then we get:-110 pages devoted to the Life of Christ (Matthew to John) that lasts for (110/1100 pages or) -10% of the Bible; and then-120 pages devoted to the record of Acts to Jude that explains Christ's Church’s birth and mission for 120/1100 pages or 11%; and then the-20 pages of Revelation describing the centrality of Israel and Jerusalem at the end of the world take up almost (20/1100 pages or) 2% of the Bible. So, just a simple glance at the Table of Contents of God's Word would make a reader conclude that Israel, Jerusalem, and the Jews are very important to God. We check to see how long before something happens or to ensure we arrive somewhere on time. Often, the circle of a clock’s face makes us think time repeats itself repeatedly. We have noon today, noon tomorrow, and noon next week. We imagine that if we don’t get something done, it will be okay because we will have another similar time tomorrow. The illusion of time being circular and coming around each day makes us miss the fact that time is going by irretrievably! What we have done, said, and been--is irrevocably done and unchangeably a part of our life. Our steps can’t be retraced. Our mistakes can not be undone. We can’t add what we have missed, we can’t erase what we have done. It is final. Time is linear and unstoppable. We are headed to the end of not only our earthly days, but towards earth’s final days. The worship of Semiramis throughout history has often had these elements:• Semiramis was called the Queen of Heaven; • Semiramis was worshipped by the offering of a wafer or cake; • Semiramis began the practice of 40 days of weeping over Tammuz before the feast of celebrating his resurrection. • These mystery cults around Semiramis also had purgatory, which they taught, believed, and adhered to. NEVER FORGIVEN WHAT IS THE UNPARDONABLE SIN & WHY DOES JESUS SAY THEY CANT BE FORGIVEN? John Barnett Online Teaching 2024-10-11 | So here we go. Face to face -- the Most Loving Person in the Universe, who gave more than anyone could imagine, looked sadly into the eyes of a piece of His personal craftsmanship – some dirt, some water, some air. Jesus had just supernaturally delivered a blind and mute man (in Matthew 12), and everyone was stunned at the unmistakable finger of God in their midst. And then Jesus uttered the ultimate curse. Jesus said that day, “You will never have forgiveness – if you die in your sins!”Think of it, the Creator Himself, the One who scooped up the dirt and shaped it into a body and then ignited that body with a soul, breathed in by the very breath of God! That Infinite Being turned and looked at one of His creations. Just think what He may have thought. Just think of the inexpressible emotions Jesus must have felt. Looking at a piece of clay, only alive at His command, only existing at His will – and seeing a completely self-hardened and self-blinded soul that would die without any hope. Exist without any recourse. Suffer without any end. Endure without any respite. Scream without any response. Burn without any end to the consuming. No wonder that Jesus warned more of Hell than He spoke of Heaven. In our portion of God's Word this morning --, Jesus spoke three words that are so solemn, hopeless, and devastating that they are hard to even comprehend for us who know and love Him. Jesus said: never has forgiveness.Every day, the one truth I cling to is the gracious forgiveness of our loving Savior. I know that however many times I fail – He forgives. I know how every many times I fall – He restores me. I know that however many times I sin – He cleanses, restores, and forgives. That is so encouraging, so refreshing, so hope-filled. But Jesus said: never has forgiveness. Those are the darkest words of all – the Endless Doom of a Soul.Those three words have shaken many believers to the very core of their being. They have troubled many sincere Christians, dogging their steps all through life. Those words have become what we call today—the unpardonable sin. Jesus said: never has forgiveness. Those are the darkest words of all—the Endless Doom of a Soul.• If you have ever heard of the unpardonable sin, you must listen to Jesus speak this morning. • If you have ever wondered if you have sinned a sin that Jesus may not ever forgive – you need to hear what He has to say this morning. • If you have ever secretly feared that you may someday face Jesus and have to answer for your sins – and you fear Him turning you away – you need to let Him speak words of comfort and assurance to your heart from His Word today.As we open to Mark 3.20-30 we come to the place where Jesus pronounced the greatest doom of all. In verse 29, Jesus said: never has forgiveness. Those are the darkest words of all – the Endless Doom of a Soul.• Far worse than the end of the world – is the Doom of the Soul. • Far worse than the death of a body – is the Doom of the Soul. • Far worse than a pain-filled life of deprivation and hardship – is the Doom of the Soul.But this morning, side by side with the most gloomy, hopeless verse in the Bible – is the most hope-filled, comforting verse. Five words should ring in your heart if you have ever feared the grave, if you have ever feared the judgment, if you ever fear not making it to Heaven. His ministry dates to the second year of the King of Persia, Darius Hystapses (521-520 BC). GOD'S PAST DEALINGS WITH SIN SHOULD CAUSE US TO TURN FROM SIN. Matthew 12:41 "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah [is] here. (NKJV)3. TURNING FROM SIN BRINGS BLESSING. Look at Zechariah 1:3 "Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Return to Me," says the LORD of hosts, "and I will return to you," says the LORD of hosts. (NKJV).
