“At stake in this race are the democratic ideals that our founders and generations of Americans before us have fought for,” she said. “At stake in this election is the Constitution of the United States.”
She took the stage flanked by about 20 Republicans supporting her campaign, including former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, former U.S. Rep. That’s a question Philly chef Reuben Asaram has had to ponder for the last seven months.
Asaram was one of three up-and-coming chefs Taco Bell tapped earlier this year to reinvent the iconic hexagonal menu item as part of its inaugural TBX culinary incubator.
After several rounds of recipe testing and a flashy launch party in Las Vegas, Asaram’s creation was unveiled at a tasting in Manhattan.
Asaram, who is Indian American, said his version is meant to mimic his go-to buffet order as a child in Queens: a heaping plate of butter chicken and rice. “There’s a huge Desi following for Taco Bell,” said Asaram, 33. “I hope I made them proud.”

Instagram: instagram.com/phillyinquirerFive friends from West Philadelphia turned their run into a weekly gathering of 250 peopleThe Philadelphia Inquirer2024-10-18 | It started as just five friends from West Philly going for a jog along the banks of the Schuylkill. And now their Tuesday evening workout became an event with more than 250 people waiting to take off.
“You just sit back in awe and say, ‘What is happening?’” said Abdul Muhammad, who helped start the Philly Run Tribe in June.
The five friends — brothers Hamza and Abdul Muhammad, Denzel Hill, Yasir Purdie, and Amir Walker — met on “The Drive” in June for a three-mile run after several unsuccessful attempts to run together. They could never agree on a time or place. Finally, they said to meet behind the Art Museum on one Tuesday night. It was nothing special. Just five friends running together on one of Philly’s most popular trails.
The friends posted on social media about their run and agreed to do it again the following Tuesday. They posted again, this time inviting others to join them on their next run. The next Tuesday, their group nearly tripled. They posted again, sending the same invitation to their followers.
The tribe kept growing, large enough that the organizers stopped counting once their group reached 250. It was never their intention to sprout a running club. It just happened.

Ten people from across the region spent 90 minutes going whole hog, chiseling away at five-pound blocks of the grayish-brown meat matter with clay carving tools as part of Reading Terminal’s first-ever Scrapple Sculpting Contest.
Passersby were curious and confounded by the event, with many stopping to ask what was happening and several following up with “What’s scrapple?” The sculptors were given no guidance on what to make and no directions on how to work with scrapple as an artistic medium, so their creations were born slowly from their own porcine dreams and gastronomic ingenuity.

Parker announced last week that her administration had reached an agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers to build a downtown arena.
Parker’s announcement leaves enough time for the project to be approved by Philadelphia City Council by the end of 2024 if a majority of lawmakers are in favor it. Her administration and the NBA team have been hashing out the details of legislation and related agreements needed to approve the project for months. The mayor’s office will now send the bills to Council.
The 76er's desire to build in a spot adjacent to Chinatown has fueled the city’s biggest development fight in years.
Chinatown residents gathered outside City Hall on Wednesday, September 18 ahead of a meeting between the mayor and the Philadelphia neighborhood’s representatives. A number of leaders said they had received calls from the mayor’s office on Tuesday inviting them to a meeting that same day, on the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. That traditional Chinese celebration is similar to Thanksgiving, where families gather to eat together under the full moon.
The mayor’s office then postponed the meeting to the next day, Chinatown supporters said.
As Parker was slated to meet with Chinatown leaders, dozens gathered outside City Hall and begged her to reconsider building an arena at the edge of Chinatown.
“Mayor Parker,” they chanted to the beat of drums, “listen to the people.” But around 2:40 p.m. on September 18, word reached the crowd that Parker was endorsing the Sixers arena with people shouting “shame” and promising to vote out elected officials who back the proposal.

Moorestown joins about three dozen book sanctuaries statewide, mostly in North Jersey where the movement began last year with Hoboken Public Library.
