The Volkswagen Golf featured a 2.0 Liter, Inline 4 Engine, paired with a 5-speed manual with overdrive transmission that produced 115 horsepower at 5,400 RPM.
There were three trim levels offered for the 1999 Golf; The baseline GL trim in 2 or 4 door hatchback, the Wolfsburg trim in 4 door hatchback and the top line performance oriented GL TDI in 2 door hatchback format.
