One is from 1982. One arrived in 2025. Both say Commodore 64 on the badge — but which one is the REAL deal?
In this video, Shane pulls the original "bread bin" Commodore 64 out of
storage and puts it side-by-side with the modern C64 Ultimate to compare
and contrast these two machines born nearly 45 years apart. Same keyboard. Same ports (mostly). Wildly different internals.
We fire up the OG with the original power brick, a 1571 floppy drive, and
a Commodore 1702 monitor — original hardware, original software, original
everything. Then we talk about what makes the C64 Ultimate more than just
an emulator: FPGA-based hardware recreation, HDMI out, USB, Ethernet,
multiple SID chips, and overclocking up to 64MHz — while the original
chugs along at 1MHz like a champ.
Both machines are real. Both are Commodore. And honestly? Both are
kind of magical.
