Unbelievably, I happen to have a copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby that I purchased from eBay months ago without ever testing it. In light of all of the buzz surrounding the alleged failure of Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, I wanted to analyze, to the best of my ability the most plausible explanation for these reports.
My copy of Omega Ruby wasn't working. I cleaned the cartridge and tested it thoroughly between 3 different 3DS systems to no avail.
I carefully broke the cartridge down to reveal the EXTRA-ROM memory in TSOP form. By my estimation, the most plausible explanation is the solder becoming fatigued on these delicate, surface mounted components after several insertion cycles. This can result in "opens" being created across the address and data bus lines, resulting in a loss of connection between the 3DS hardware and the cartridge itself.
I re-flowed the TSOP memory module, and as the video shows, the cart is back to complete operational working order, with SAVE data intact.
This is of course anecdotal and just a theory. I can't definitely speak for all of the 3DS Pokemon cartridges that are in a state of failure. However, the problem in my case was quantifiable and proven.
This problem is something that I documented (and how to fix it too!) in a Game Boy cartridge repair video that I did years ago.

Okay, let's get started...
In this installment, I showcase the NES 8-Bitter module that I've designed to ease the process of creating NES/Famicom "repro" carts that rely on original hardware. There are SO many amazing Famicom titles that I want to convert to English, all while not damaging my original copies. My methods greatly differ from what's commonly done in practice. No cartridge rewiring, no desoldering MASKROMs, and the modifications are 100% reversible and do NOT destroy an original game.

Whether you're a new player looking for an affordable soldering station or a skilled electronics enthusiast looking for an equipment upgrade without breaking the bank, I believe I have you covered. I've tested a variety of these soldering stations that directly drive Hakko styled T12/T15 tips, and I couldn't be more impressed with this specific DSGER model. I love it so much that I haven't been using my Hakko stations for the past month. I never recommend gear without putting it through its paces. I've actually tested several different "forms" of this station. And while they all look cosmetically identical, it's a very different story, inside.

In this installment, we examine a turd brown PC-E that is in a non-functional issue. We'll attempt to repair this unit, and perform a thorough cosmetic restoration to the plastic housing.
At 9:33 of the video, I didn't set the instrument to ohms or continuity. when I was probing the area and I found the break. I didn't need to, as I could tell by the behavior on the display that something was amiss. I just know all of the strange quirks of this particular multimeter. Sorry if that confused any of you as I didn't explain that.

In this installment, I modify an SCPH-70012 PS2 Slim. I demonstrate a variety of technique's that will aid you in achieving a very clean, professional look. Also covered is a laser protection method that will prevent your optical-laser from self-destruction. I haven't done this particular model in a few years, so it was kind of fun to go back!

In this installment, I take you through the process of installing Tim Worthington's NESRGB kit into an AV Famicom. This is a barebones installation and as a result is missing a few bells & whistles such as those snazzy audio mods. I spend a great deal of time & focus on PPU removal, as this is what most people struggle greatly with.

I'm 70% moved into my new lab! Nonetheless, in this installment I thoroughly go over the process of replacing the MASK-ROM BIOS with a flash memory equivalent that allows the system to boot games from all regions. I also install a Phantom Universal Mod for those precious archival copies.

In this installment, we tear down a Japanese PC-E Duo that has never been properly serviced. I spend most of the video talking about PCB cleaning and how it's imperative that corrosive electrolytic fluid be removed from a main-board before the replacement of any components. I filmed the ending out of sequence, so there are 3 capacitors missing! That's just what I get!

I fudged up some of the editing in the beginning. This video was a pretty raw shoot!
It's been years, years I tell you! Some very old technique's here. This is a super short-wire method. This is NOT a tutorial, nor is it an endorsement of any kind. Just trying to impart some methods onto the newer (and older) generation. You don't hardly see the short-wire stuff being done. Then again, you really didn't back in the day either. It's certainly the most challenging.
Just me workin' away!

In this installment, I rework an NESRGB modded Front-Loader that's filled with the sacred hot-glue sauces.
All restoration work was performed pro bono for the very excellent Twitch streamer, cantaloupeme.

In this installment, I'll show you trade secrets that I devised many years ago for PS1 hardware. The technique's demonstrated here are applicable for models ranging from the SCPH-5XXX all the way up to the SCPH-101. This is NOT a tutorial, but just a brief overview of how I operate when working with this hardware.

In this installment we examine a SNES-Mini that's been poorly RGB modded by a well known eBay modder who's notoriously known for terrible work.

-In this installment, I rework a not-so-great NESRGB installation and remove an auto switching supply regulator that's creating a visual interference as the result of poor ripple performance. You can literally see the frequency response in the video capture! I put emphasis mainly on good wiring practices and technique. There's no reason to have a rats nest of conductors that are 1 ft. longer than needed. Keep your transmission lines as short as possible, and maintain a clear line-of-sight between terminations.
CORRECTION, at 4:58 at the Absolute Maximum table I should have underlined the line describing analog inputs (AGND -0.3V to AVDD +0.3V). In this specific case, -0.3V to 2.1V
