Proof of concept,
Using an old building mechanic a lot of people probably forgot about.
I've used it in the past as an anti-griefing mechanism for my external TCs, so it came to mind readily.

KEEP IN MIND that you don't have to use foundations for the out-connection, but rather floating frames etc, meaning you can still fit widegap foundations in almost every situation.
