The G-Rebels demo immediately reminded me why I loved G-Police back in the Psygnosis days. As someone who later worked alongside former Psygnosis developers during my time at Bizarre Creations, it was fun seeing that style of futuristic combat and city flying make a return.
In this relaxed first look, I explore the demo, chat about its smooth controls, atmospheric lighting and overall feel. I also play with a touch of ReShade to check out the geometry, but this isn't a deep technical graphics breakdown - it's simply an enjoyable look at a promising game.
If you grew up with G-Police, Colony Wars or other classic Psygnosis games, I'd love to hear what you think.
About me:
I'm a former Rockstar Games Environment Artist, having worked on GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA VI, as well as previous roles at Bizarre Creations and Traveller's Tales. On this channel I explore game worlds, graphics technology and environmental art from the perspective of someone who's helped build them.

I recently finished Halo Campaign Evolved, and before moving on I wanted to revisit my favourite mission, The Silent Cartographer, to appreciate the environment art.
Rather than focusing on gameplay, we explore the island with cinematic camera tools, looking closely at:
Terrain materials
Nanite geometry
Ocean simulation
Alien architecture
Hidden developer leftovers beneath the map
Character modelling and topology

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is one of Ubisoft's most technically fascinating open-world games, and in this video I take a look at every planet in the Atlas system, exploring what makes each one visually unique.
Although the planets are surprisingly small, they rarely feel that way while you're exploring them. I chat about some of the environmental art techniques that help create this illusion of scale, including atmospheric scattering, distance haze, horizon flattening, object scaling, terrain composition, and other visual tricks that make these worlds appear far larger than they really are.
As a former Rockstar Games Environment Artist who worked on GTA VI, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, I'm always fascinated by the technical and artistic decisions that shape believable game worlds. Starlink is packed with clever solutions that deserve far more recognition than they usually receive.

Come with me as I explore Bethesda's Starfield.
Rather than rushing through quests, this video takes a slower approach - flying between worlds, studying the maps, enjoying the environments and looking at how Bethesda has approached exploration on such a large scale.
Along the way I compare Starfield with other space exploration games including No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous, X4 Foundations and Star Citizen, discussing the different philosophies behind handcrafted worlds, procedural generation and what makes exploration rewarding.
As a former Rockstar Games environment artist, I'm especially interested in the artistic and technical choices that shape these virtual worlds.

The latest GTA 6 clip gives us another breathtaking look as the camera glides through the city at sunset.
As a former Rockstar Games Environment Artist who worked on GTA VI, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, I share my thoughts on Rockstar's latest city flyover, looking at the lighting, atmosphere, reflections and composition.
This isn't a frame-by-frame technical breakdown - just a relaxed discussion about the environment and visual quality of what will be one of the most impressive open worlds ever created.
If you enjoy exploring game worlds, environment art, and behind-the-scenes insights from someone who helped build them, consider subscribing for more.

In this video I take a trip to Griffith Observatory in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and revisit a location that has played a surprisingly important role throughout my career in game development.
Although I've never actually visited Griffith Observatory in real life, I've spent countless hours working on this area across two major games: Blur at Bizarre Creations and Grand Theft Auto V at Rockstar Games.
We explore the real-world location from the air in MSFS2020 before jumping into Blur and GTA V, whilst I share stories from development, reference gathering, environment art production, and my first experiences working at both studios.
It's a short but personal look back at two projects that remain some of my favourite memories from the games industry.

In this video, I take you on a relaxing nature walk through the Clouded Forest region of Pandora in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Together we'll explore the incredible variety of plant and animal life that inhabit this unique biome, taking time to appreciate the artistry and attention to detail that bring Pandora's ecosystems to life.
Along the way, we'll discuss the game's environmental design and examine how its world-building encourages players to feel connected to the natural environment rather than simply moving through it. From the dense vegetation and exotic creatures to the subtle audio design and atmospheric effects, we'll look at how the game creates a strong sense of immersion.
We'll also take a closer look at the weather and wind systems, exploring how they interact with the surrounding foliage, character and assets to contribute to the feeling of a living, breathing world. As part of this discussion, I'll compare Avatar's environmental simulation with the recently showcased wind system in Crimson Desert, highlighting where Frontiers of Pandora succeeds in creating a more cohesive and believable natural environment.

Today we’re back in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - but not as you know it.
This is my first proper look at the incredible Nolvus V6 modpack and honestly... I’m blown away by it. After spending some time exploring this gigantic overhaul, it genuinely feels less like a modpack and more like an entirely new version of Skyrim.
With around 3,700 mods installed, completely overhauled landscape, new structures, survival systems, parallax textures, improved lighting, overhauled UI, expanded worldbuilding and massive draw distances, Nolvus V6 transforms Skyrim into something that feels modern, immersive and enormous again.
In this video:
• First impressions of Nolvus V6
• Exploring Riverwood and Whiterun
• Massive visual overhaul and environmental storytelling
• Parallax textures and improved landscape detail
• New architecture, foliage and worldbuilding
• Survival mechanics and immersive gameplay systems
• Improved distant mountains and atmosphere
• Stability and performance thoughts
• Why Skyrim still feels evergreen after all these years
It’s honestly one of the most impressive modding projects I’ve ever seen.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the journey through Skyrim once again.

Back beneath the waves in Subnautica 2 and things are getting seriously intense. In this episode we journey from the starting biome across a massive abyss toward my second base, Far Haven, exploring new depths, strange creatures, dangerous Leviathans, underwater currents, and some stunning new biomes along the way.
We take the Tadpole sub through deep caverns, investigate abandoned structures, encounter giant Deepwing Brooders, and eventually come face-to-face with one of the game’s terrifying Leviathans… which does NOT go well.

I’ve been playing Subnautica 2 for the past week thanks to a preview build provided by Unknown Worlds and in this video I wanted to share my impressions from exploring the starting biomes, building a base, and taking a closer look at the art direction and tech behind the game.
This isn’t a review - just a relaxed look at the atmosphere, exploration, creatures, environments, performance, and some of the Unreal Engine 5 features being used throughout the world.
In this video:
• Exploring the starting area and early biomes
• Base building and underwater views
• New creatures and ecosystem design
• Deep ocean caves and drop-offs
• Nanite and UE5 performance observations
• Mesh Blend terrain blending techniques
• Underwater lighting, reflections and caustics
• Early thoughts after a week with the game
• Beautiful sunrise and sunset atmosphere
If you loved Subnautica and Below Zero, this already feels very familiar in the best possible way - a bigger, more modern take on that same addictive exploration formula.
Huge thanks to Unknown Worlds for providing early access to the game.
Thank you so much to all channel members - your support genuinely means a lot.

In this video, we explore Forza Horizon 4’s stunning recreation of Edinburgh and see just how accurately Playground Games captured one of Scotland’s most iconic cities. From the historic streets and famous landmarks to the atmosphere and layout, we take a close look at what was recreated faithfully - and what was changed for gameplay.
To get an even better sense of the real cityscape, I also use Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 to follow my driving route from above, comparing the in-game world with the real Edinburgh skyline and surroundings.

In this video we take a detailed look at how accurately Forza Horizon 4 recreates the real town of Ambleside in England's Lake District National Park.
As an environment artist and someone who lived and worked in the Lake District for many years, I wanted to compare the in-game version of Ambleside with the real location using Google Earth and personal experience. We'll look at what Playground Games captured perfectly, what they changed for gameplay, and how developers distil real locations down to their most important visual elements.
This is a great example of how game developers balance realism with gameplay when building open worlds based on real places.

In this video I take a deeper look at the open world design of Crimson Desert from Pearl Abyss, focusing on environmental detail, resource allocation, and whether the game's water system is actually running a real-time simulation.
We explore:
Open world design philosophy
How developers prioritise detail across large maps
Water behaviour and flow analysis
Data points suggesting real simulation vs baked animation
Environmental polish differences off the main path
Character interaction with water systems
As an environment artist and former AAA developer, I’m especially interested in how technical decisions support immersion, and where studios choose to spend their development resources.

In this video we take a closer look at the incredible material detail in Crimson Desert and try to answer an interesting question:
Are we looking at parallax mapping, pixel depth offset, or full displacement mapping?
As an environment artist I love breaking down the technology behind game visuals, and Crimson Desert is packed with fascinating rendering techniques. We examine walls, rocks, and surfaces to understand how Pearl Abyss may be achieving such impressive depth and realism, as well as try to explain why we have some prominent artefacting.
This is not a gameplay video – this is a technical art and graphics analysis for people who enjoy understanding how game visuals actually work.
Topics covered:
• Displacement mapping
• Parallax mapping
• Pixel depth offset
• Graphics artifacts as analysis clues
• Environment art observations
If you're a tech artist or graphics programmer feel free to share your thoughts!

In this video I take an in-depth look at the river technology in Crimson Desert from the perspective of an environment artist. Having previously worked on river development for Red Dead Redemption 2, I’m especially interested in how Pearl Abyss are pushing water simulation forward and what makes these rivers feel so believable.
This is not a gameplay or story video. Instead we focus purely on the environment art, terrain design, and the water simulation technology that makes these rivers the most impressive I’ve seen in games.
Topics covered:
• Water simulation vs traditional flow maps
• How Crimson Desert rivers achieve realistic flow
• Terrain design and believable river construction
• Simulation optimization techniques
• Interaction between characters, objects, and water
• Why I regard this as the best river tech in gaming
Crimson Desert’s world continues to impress me with its scale and technical ambition, and this river analysis is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the world including the coastal water systems in future videos.

In this video I share my first impressions of Crimson Desert from the perspective of an environment artist after a few hours of gameplay.
Overall I was blown away by the scale, detail and ambition of the world, but there are also some early technical issues worth discussing. I talk about the strange grass colour balance, lighting problems during certain times of day, and how a simple reshade tweak can improve the visuals.
I also take a technical look at some of the graphics technology including possible displacement mapping. Finally, I share my thoughts on the river technology, which honestly impressed me the most.
Topics covered:
• Crimson Desert graphics first impressions
• Environment artist analysis
• Grass colour and lighting issues
• Reshade visual improvements
• Displacement vs parallax mapping discussion
• River and water technology breakdown
• Early technical thoughts after first gameplay
I'll be making deeper technical breakdown videos soon, including a full analysis of the water simulation.

In this video I share my balanced thoughts on DLSS 5 based on what we've seen so far from the official NVIDIA showcase and the analysis from Digital Foundry, and discuss the use of AI in a wider sense.
DLSS 5 clearly shows potential. The AI advancements are impressive, but at the same time the strength of the technology raises important questions. When does enhancement become replacement? When does assistance become dependency?
AI in gaming is complicated. It can be a useful tool, but it can also risk becoming a shortcut that replaces the development of real technical and artistic skills. As someone passionate about game worlds and visual design, I think it's important we talk about both the opportunities and the risks.
This isn't a hype video or a hate video - just thoughtful discussion.

Join me for a relaxed historical tour through Middle-earth in ArdaCraft.
We begin in the peaceful Shire village of Michel Delving, exploring the Mathom House – the Shire’s charming museum filled with curiosities, heirlooms, and artifacts from Hobbit history. Along the way we look at fascinating pieces of lore, from the Fell Winter of 1311, to famous Hobbits like Bandobras Took, and relics tied to the wider history of Middle-earth.
One artifact leads us beyond the Shire and into the deeper past of the Northern Kingdom of Arnor. We travel to the ancient Númenórean capital Annúminas, and finally to the ruined city of Fornost, where the armies of Gondor and the Elves defeated the Witch-king of Angmar in the Battle of Fornost.
This was a fascinating journey through Tolkien’s history, beautifully recreated by the ArdaCraft builders. As an environment artist, I absolutely love the attention to detail, storytelling through ruins, and the sense of time and loss captured in these landscapes.
If you enjoy Tolkien lore, relaxed exploration, and worldbuilding, you’re in the right place.

This video talks about my personal relationship with video games and why I avoid certain genres.
As a former game developer who worked on games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, I’ve spent years thinking about how games influence us, both consciously and subconsciously.
In this video I talk about:
• Why I don’t enjoy playing certain violent or horror games
• The type of games I personally prefer
• Why violence in games is often an easy target in public discussions
• Whether games might influence us on a subconscious level
• How games can actually support mental health
• And why I started the Game World Art YouTube channel
For me, games are more than entertainment—they can be a way to explore worlds, relax the mind, and find inspiration.

How does an open-world game with a full day/night cycle and ray tracing stack up against a tightly crafted, pre-baked, level-based shooter?
We break down:
Terrain topology & tessellation
Deformable sand and surface detail
Asset density & world clutter
Materials & surface clarity
Lighting (dynamic vs pre-baked GI)
Art direction & environmental storytelling
It’s not a head-to-head - these are two very different games with different constraints and design philosophies. But it’s fascinating to see how both teams approached the same iconic Star Wars location nearly a decade apart.
Both games shine in different ways - and there’s a lot to learn from each.
If you're into environment art, game development, or just love Star Wars worlds, this one’s for you.

From the winding approach through the valley of Imladris to the halls of Elrond Half-elven, this project captures the beauty, history, and atmosphere of Tolkien’s world in stunning detail. We’ll explore the great hall, balconies, workshops, gardens, and hidden corners - soaking in the views of the Bruinen and the Misty Mountains along the way.
As an environment artist, I’m always inspired by projects like this. Ardacraft doesn’t just build impressive exteriors - the interiors feel lived-in, believable, and rich with story. It’s a real treat for any Lord of the Rings fan.
If you enjoy relaxed world exploration, Middle-earth lore, and detailed environment design, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for watching - more adventures in Middle-earth to come and thank you so much to all channel members - your support genuinely means a lot.

Today we return to Middle-Earth - exploring the realm of Gondor, specifically the town of Lisclorn, Anórien in North Gondor, within the incredible ArdaCraft Minecraft project.
I take a slow, ground-level wander through the town of Lisclorn, built along the River Anduin, looking at its architecture, walls, streets, vegetation, and the quiet storytelling embedded in its design.
As an environment artist, I’m especially interested in how ArdaCraft uses block variety, non-blended textures, terrain gradation, and historical layering to create spaces that feel lived-in, functional, and believable — even within the constraints of Minecraft.
We’ll look at:
– Gondorian architecture and Roman-inspired foundations
– The history told through walls, repairs, and materials
– Vegetation, terrain detail, and block variety
– How these spaces function as real towns, not just set dressing
ArdaCraft works closely with the Conquest Reforged mod, pushing Minecraft far beyond its vanilla limits, and projects like this are a testament to what long-term passion and dedication can achieve.
Huge thanks to the ArdaCraft team for their continued work on bringing Tolkien’s world to life — there’s clearly many years still ahead for this project.
Thanks very much to my channel members for the support, and thanks for watching.

Having learned more since the first episode, this is a slower, more detailed look at how Cairn handles route-finding, stamina, bivouacs, weather, and topology, and how much freedom the game gives the player to choose their own line up the mountain.
We’ll look at:
– Bivouacs, cooking and recovery systems
– Weather effects and their impact on climbing
– Route choice, traversal and player freedom
– Rock geometry, LOD behaviour and low-poly landscapes
– ReShade depth-buffer topology views (and what they do / don’t show)
Cairn continues to prove that you don’t need extreme polygon counts or cutting-edge tech to build a tense, atmospheric and deeply engaging environment - clarity of design and a strong visual identity go a long way.
Thanks very much to my channel members for the continued support, and thanks for watching.

This is the second video in my Alan Wake 2 environment series, recorded in 4K with ray tracing and path tracing enabled, using free camera and ReShade tools to examine the world up close.
We’ll look at:
– Lighting and colour bleed
– Material quality and surface detail
– LOD transitions and asset optimisation
– Reflections, shadows and path-traced lighting
– How dense, small play spaces are built and dressed
Bright Falls is a beautiful, compact environment packed with detail, and it’s fascinating to see how much is going on just beneath the surface — especially from an environment art perspective.

This is not a full review, but a first impressions exploration of the art style, geometry, LOD behaviour, and climbing mechanics, as well as how the game conveys scale and terrain with a small team.
We’ll look at:
– The sketch-like, comic-inspired art direction
– Rock geometry, texture fade-ins and LOD transitions
– Climbing mechanics and line-reading
– Unity rendering quirks and ReShade wireframe experiments
– Day / night cycle and atmospheric effects
Cairn is an unusually focused, non-violent game built around a single activity, and it’s refreshing to see a title that leans so hard into place, process and physicality.
This is an early snapshot - I’ll be returning to it as I progress further.
Thanks very much to my channel members for the support, and thanks for watching.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, Empire of the Ants makes great use of Nanite and Lumen, allowing huge numbers of highly detailed insects to fight across muddy, flood-scarred environments. Think classic real-time strategy... but with ants instead of tanks.
This isn’t a gameplay guide or technical breakdown — just a chance to slow down, observe the battles, and appreciate how convincing and immersive the insect world feels when everything is in motion.

In this episode, I play through a quiet, solitary mission where our ant must cross a flooded forest, leaping between leaves, ferns, rocks, and fallen trees. It’s a slower change of pace compared to the game’s large-scale RTS battles, and a perfect excuse to soak in the world, the atmosphere, and the incredible environment work.
As an environment artist, I couldn’t help but admire the detail on display here — from gnarly Nanite rock meshes and muddy soil, to moss, lichen, foliage, and the way scale is handled when you’re this small. The sense of freedom, verticality, and control really sells the fantasy of being an ant navigating a vast natural world.
No UI, no rushing — just exploration, mood, and great world-building.
