As usual, it's still dark when we climb out of the canvas hot tent and start breaking camp, taking down the hot tent and wood stove and loading up our freight toboggans on this Canada outdoors survival, winter bushcraft trip. Once packed up, we strap on our snowshoes and enjoy good conditions as we cross East Bay of Chiniguchi Lake. Strong winds the previous day had blown the snow off the bay, allowing the slush to freeze overnight. The day was warming up however and after we completed a very challenging portage into Laura Lake, we hit some bad slush. Two snowmobilers that had bushwhacked into the lake to fish had a lot of issues not getting stuck. They told me that they hope I'd bring my bathing suit along! Laura Lake was indeed slushy and it made the traveling tough at times but we still managed to get through it and saw some otter and lynx tracks along the way too. Once we put Laura Lake behind us we decided to make camp at a spot where there was very deep show. We were all pretty beat but were happy that we'd done about 8km and finished earlier than most days despite the challenges. That night while preparing dinner, @nate_muskoka and I each got some concerning weather reports on or Sat. texting devices. It looked like we had strangely warm weather and rain on the way which was quite concerning. Trans-Labrador Highway & Newfoundland - Full Documentary Overland with our off-road teardrop trailer and 4x4 overlanding truck we headed out for a month-long overland camping adventure, traveling east to the remote, Trans-Labrador Highway. We followed this wilderness road, camping along the way, and did hikes with the kids to experience off-grid life. This included the hiking trail into Churchill Falls, staying at an abandoned campground, running out of gas, visiting a 400-year-old Basque whaling station, off-roading with the ZR2, missing our ferry to Newfoundland - and once, on the island, we did a fly-in moose hunt, taking a bush plane into an off-grid cabin. We then headed to Gros Morne National Park and camped out while climbing Gros Morne Mountain, hiking the Green Gardens Trail, and trekking in the Table Lands, and along the coastal trail as well. After that, we took the ferry over to Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island and drove the Cabot Trail before heading home after being on the road for about a month. Heading through a narrows, Xandar Budnick breaks through the ice which is a little scary so, I check the ice with my Hudson Bay Axe and we continue on, making camp in a protected bay. That night for dinner I cooked moose steaks on the wood stove and we had a well deserved sleep. The next day we'd took off, and did not pack up camp to travel. I went ice fishing and share a tip on how to keep your ice fishing hole from freezing. I process wood, eat pemmican for lunch and take things easy, well easier than usual this day. Traveling conditions were good as we trekked across beautiful Wolf but our happiness ended quickly when we came to a large stretch of open water where the creek pours into Wolf from Dudney Lake. We had to bushwhack around the open water through a boulder field and then four-man haul the freight toboggans up a steep gulch one at a time. Bushwhacking around the bad ice at the top of the portage trail I then ventured out onto the thin ice to check how safe it was using my axe. Fortunately, we were able to squeak by but we were soon faced with more bad ice and open water at the next narrows. I felt elated when we finally made it past the portages and experienced good traveling conditions across Dudney Lake.While Nate set up the tent on Chinaguchi Lake, I set my ice fishing tip up and rigged it with a robotic minnow lure and let it sit there as I cut firewood, and Nate finished setting up the tent. A while later I saw the flag had popped up on the tip up so ran out to check my line and pulled out a nice Lake Trout! We cooked it up over the wood stove in our hot tent for dinner and I shared half the catch with the Budnick brothers. Traveling conditions were terrible the next day and being heavier than the rest of the guys, I was stepping into wet slush with every step. North's toboggan was getting terribly slushed up too. He could hardly make it even a few feet after I'd scraped the ice off of it before it would get slushed up again. I kept going and while passing a point, I broke through the ice, jumping out of the way in an impressive athletic maneuver as I felt the ice giving away underneath me before I went through. It was a scary situation. I was at a campsite that Ted and I had camped on a couple summers prior. I was way behind everyone but finally caught up. They were having challenges with the conditions as well and we decided once and for all that the route we'd chosen was just not possible with the times we had and the conditions we were dealing with. We soon chose an alternate route that would loop us back around to our vehicles. Snow fell around the cabin in the morning as we cooked bacon & eggs on the propane cook stove for breakfast. We then got ready to explore the area by snowmobile and rigged up an awesome way to transport the kids with our ski-doo. Exploring the trails, it took us some time to get onto the OFSA Trails from our off-grid tiny home but we soon found a way and then rode the OFSA trails to meet up with the Haliburton Forest Snowmobile Trail system. On the Haliburton trails, we enjoyed doing a big loop through beautiful forests and didn't see many other travelers after getting off the main trail. Getting back to the cabin, Hudson was upset that the snowmobiling was over. We enjoyed a bonfire for a bit and then I went ice fishing by myself, riding the ski-doo out to a different spot than last time. Using the same bushcraft fishing technique I did the previous time to land a trout, I soon had a small Brook Trout on the line which I landed. Moose enchiladas were for dinner that night. Skirting Thin Ice | 10 Days Winter Camping in the Northern Wild | Life on the Winter Trail - E.3 Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-03-16 | #jimbairdadventurer #outdoors #wiltercamping The Winter Trail - 10 Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest - E.3 -Dodging Open Water After bushwhacking our freight toboggans from an old skidder trail to the canoe portage trail we started hauling them through deep snow along the sketchy trail. The sloping hill means a runaway toboggan may end up in the rapids that lay below. More open water at the top of the rapid was concerning too so we had to haul our gear around it and I checked the ice with my axe in between two sections of open water, crossing the Chinaguchi river and bushwhacking over a point to finally reach Sylvester Lake. So far, it had taken us a long time to get here and we'd made little distance. Crossing Sylvester, we passed some beautiful cliffs that were laden with icicles before another bushwhack around open water finally put us on Wolf Lake and I let out a howl in celebration. However, we really didn't have much to celebrate about. We were trying to make it 10 to 12 km per day but we'd only made it about 13 km in total and it was the end of Day 3. Open water conditions and slush on the lakes caused by the warm temps were making it unlikely that we'd be able to safely make it to our desired end point in Gowganda before in the 12 days we'd allotted for the adventure. Winter Wildlife with the DS4K Trail Cam by Stealth Cam Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-03-13 | I put my new DS4K Ultimate trail cam by Stealth Cam up on a tree just in front of my house for the month of Feb. I pointed it at a spot where I saw some tracks and there was a little browse. It turned out there is a lot more deer activity than anticipated and, as usual, the trail cam helped me learn more about wildlife. It’s good to see the deer are looking healthy this late into winter. I guess that’s one good thing g about having such a mild winter this year. I’ve actually started bringing a trail cam along on my longer expeditionary canoe trips over the last couple years and have captured a Wolverine, a Lynx, and a moose just setting the cam up at camp. Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-03-10 | #outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #offgridliving Off-Grid Tiny Cabin in the Winter Forest E.1 Nighttime - 23° Snowmobile Access & Tiny Home Tour + Big Trout!It's almost dark out as a forest access road leads us through the Haliburton Forest to a parking area, our snowmobile in tow. We're headed for an off-grid tiny cabin in the winter forest that we're renting from @cabinscape3933 The kids are sleeping and it's - 23° outside as we load up out toboggan and drive the snowmobile off of the trailer. It's pitch black out by the time we're loaded up and have all our winter gear on. Soon, we load the kids onto the snowmobile and head out for a 4km ride into the cabin. The trail was well marked and we have been here before. Our Husky dog north ran behind us as we rode in. We'd wanted to get there while it was light out but in the end, doing it at night was a great little adventure. Settling into the cabin we soon cook dinner - moose steaks but we butch the job up pretty good, unfortunately, it makes for a funny scene though. The next day we get ready and trek through the forest and onto a frozen lake to do some ice fishing for Trout. Tori and I set up some lines and we have a fire on the ice to cook some hotdogs. Pretty soon, a nice Brook Trout hits and Tori lands the beautiful fish. After hanging out on the ice for a little while longer, we pack up and head back to the cabin to enjoy a nice fish fry for dinner. 10-Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest | Life on the Winter Trail - E.2 - Going the Wrong Way Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-03-09 | #outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #wintercamping Life on the Winter Trail | 10-Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest - E.2 Our adventure continues as we take down our hit tents and wood stoves and begin snowshoeing, hauling our heavy freight toboggans. The weather was strangely warm and it even started raining. Ice conditions were sketchy at the base of our first portage to bypass a rapids. I had what looked like an old logging trail marked on my map and though we could take it to the next lake up. In the end, the trail was way harder and didn’t actually go where the map said it did. We got pretty disoriented for a bit before we realized we had to cut back to the river and the portage trail. Knowing we couldn’t do it that day, we just made camp right there. The next morning was a little eventful as it started off with Xandar getting his drone stuck in a tree. Then, the route back to the river was no cake walk and we had to lower our toboggans down a steep hill using a rope. Getting to the river, we realized it was open where it would usually be frozen and in front of us lay a steep portage trail that was going to take a lot of effort to complete. 10 Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest | Life on the Winter Trail E.1 - Husky Dog & Hot Tents Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-03-02 | #outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #wintercamping 10 Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest | Life on the Winter Trail - E.1- Husky Dog & Hot TentsSnowshoes, hot tents, freight toboggans, and all winter camping gear loaded up, we headed north on a long trek to cross Northern Ontario's Temagami Region by snowshoe. I brought my sled dog - my Husky dog North. We'd be sleeping in hot tents - canvas tents with portable wood stoves, snowshoeing on this Canada outdoors survival stint in the Canadian wilderness. I was with brothers Xander Budnick and Maxim Budnick as well as my friend Nate Smith and we were trekking through wild country. The winter of 2022 / 23 has been a weird one and is set to be the warmest winter in Canadian history. Though we had cold temps as low as -25 and days of heavy wind, we headed out with a concerningly warm forecast thinking "at least it couldn't get warmer". In the coming days, we'd discover that we were wrong. Much of our route consisted of trekking on a frozen river where moving water means ice conditions are more unstable. In front of us lay some very physically challenging work, skirting open water, deep slush to negotiate, and a lot of probing sketchy ice. There were a lot of serious decisions that needed to be made on safety and our route in general. On this Canada outdoors survival trek, we'd enjoy off-grid life hiking with kids, beginning the trek after camping in our off-road teardrop overlanding trailer. Tori’s knee started hurting as it was still sore from the Gros Morne Mountain climb. We were well into the hike when the pain started and we considered turning back but Tori decided to tough it out and I carved her a walking stick. After passing a waterfall we made it to the coast and it was more spectacular than we’d expected. The walk back up was challenging physically but much easier on Tori’s knee. After the hike, we left Gros Morne and drove to Port Aux Basques where we spend a night in a campground before catching the ferry over to North Sidney Nova Scotia. Before our final drive home, we decided to drive the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island before the final drive home. We deal with cool weather, hot weather, rain, wind and still conditions, all while keeping our two young kids entertained. It was a tough trip but we made some amazing memories. Mountain With Our Kids: 70mph Winds on Gros Morne - Eastbound Overland - E.1117kms of wilderness travel on a remote trail that saw a steep scree climb to reach the summit of Gros Morne Mountain was on the agenda for this Canada outdoors survival day with myself, Jim Baird Adventurer and my family. We got to the trailhead early in the morning and carried the kids in kid carrier backpacks, hiking with kids has its challenges as does off-grid life. After walking for many miles past beautiful waterfalls, we began the steep climb to reach the mountain top. Views were stunning but the wind was extremely strong. The area is known for strong with and its reputation came through if full form. Coming down off the back of the mountain we were partially blocked and the gruelling descent took several hours but the views did not disappoint. When we were almost back to the end of the approach trail, we watched a large woodland caribou bull and a large bull moose at the same time! It was amazing and although this day was extremely challenging, it was the highlight of the whole trip for my wife Tori and I. In this episode we hike the Western Brook Pond and get an incredible view of the inland fjord. The following day we hike the Coastal Trail right from our campsite and get beautiful views of the ocean. We come across some cool miniature forests and also spot a bull moose right on the trail. We Did a Fly-In Moose Hunt in Newfoundland | Eastbound Overland - E.9 - Off-Grid Cabin & Floatplane Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-02-02 | #outdoors #hunting #jimbairdadventurer We Did a Fly-In Moose Hunt in Newfoundland | Eastbound Overland - E.9 - Off-Grid Cabin & FloatplaneFinally the heavy wind stopped and we boarded our floatplane early in the morning for our flight into a remote off-grid cabin in Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula. The cabin is owned by a hunting outfitter, Portland Creek Outfitters. The flight was beautiful and the kids enjoyed the views. We unloaded the bush plane and hauled our gear up to the off-grid cabin. Noon, I was out hunting. After putting a good amount of effort in, calling and trekking to different spots, even crossing a river, we were unsuccessful. Jamie pointing to a mountain top across the lake and said he wanted to head up there to try the next morning. I was game and after the trek, we set up in a spot with great vantage points and started calling. After some time we managed to call in a bull and ultimately we were successful. Hauling it down from the mountain top through dense bush and across deep bogs was a real challenge but we got back to the boat, leaving another load for the following day. While I hunted, my with Tori went on a hike with the kids, copped some wood and just hung out at camp. Delicious food was on the plate too and we enjoyed fried cod, cod aux gratin and bacon and eggs for breakfast. We were the last people in the camp that season. He did great! I took mom to the Dr. last week for a check up and shots. The Dr. was going though so milestones and asked me if he could walk while holding into furniture. I showed her this video and she was amazed, she said she’d never seen anything like it before and that it must be because of all the adventures we take him on.

DIY Tipi Smoked Trout Makes a Great Camp Snack #outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #camping #canoeing Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-01-25 | I drizzled these fillets in maple syrup before putting them on my tipi smoker. I made a small fire with hardwood at the the bottom of the tipi and added more wood every hour or so. In all, it probably smoked for about 10 hours. The key is to allow the heat fro. The fire to slowly dry the fish, you don’t want to “cook” it in the typical way or it will go bad. Smoked trout snakes are a great addition to my backcountry adventures. Overlanding Adventure - E.7 We did a little off-roading to get to a camping spot with out off-road teardrop trailer when we reached Blanc-Sablon, Québec but we blew it the next morning and missed our ferry. We were then wind-bound as the ferry didn’t come back due to heavy winds and waves. Early morning in the pitch back and driving resin the next day we got on. We explored Sea Caves and beautiful scenery as we made our way down the Northern Peninsula, exploring a side trail and finally making it to Portland Creek Outfitters. We Ran Out of Fuel on a Remote Wilderness Road | Trans-Labrador Highway Overlanding Adventure - E.6 Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-01-12 | #jimbairdadventurer #camping #overland We Ran Out of Fuel on a Remote Wilderness Road | Trans-Labrador Highway Overlanding Adventure - E.6 Leaving an abandoned campground near Northwest River, Labrador we continued East on a remote stretch of the Trans-Labrador Highway as we headed for the coast and Port Hope Simpson. Early on in the day's travel, we knew we didn't have enough fuel to make it. Fortunately, we had a backup plan. The following day we, took a side route into St. Lewis and Iceberg Alley driving as far east as possible in mainland North America. Even more amazing, we saw a big Bull Moose Crossing the Highway and hiked with kids into a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is also a National Historic Site of Canada. This spot is known as the Boney Shore and is near Red Bay, Labrador. Here, you can find hundreds of old Right and Bowhead whale bones which were left there by Basque whalers who processed them there in great numbers for about 70 years here beginning in about 1600 which is about 400 years ago. They stopped because the whale numbers declined due to overharvesting and it was no longer feasible to make the long voyage from the shores of France and Spain from where the Basque hail. When is Standing in a Canoe Best? In Shallow Rapids of Course! #outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #yukon Jim Baird - Adventurer 2023-01-11 | Don’t stand in a canoe they told me, well I’ll show ya! Turns out this is the best way to navigate shallow rapids weather going up or down river. This is how it always used to be done back in the day. Few people go up river now a days and with durable modern canoe materials, it’s not as big a deal as it was at one time to hit rocks compared to when people had bark and canvas canoes. You can miss the rocks more easily when standing because it gives you a way better perspective than when sitting and the pole allows you to stop the canoe dead in its tracks, and move sideways by planting the pole on the bottom of the river. Because you steer yourself by pushing off the bottom when poling, it also allows you to steer in water too shallow to sink a paddle in. Check out my channel for more! Soon, I scout ahead to have a look at a rapid from shore and I decide it's runnable so we run the rapid as a family as Hudson snoozes in the canoe. We pull over to pick up our Husky dog North and to give Wesley his medicine. We paddle for a way but this day w don't have to make too many kilometers and we reach our desired campsite by 4:30. The only problem is that it's raining and it soon starts to pick up hard. I get a tarp rigged up and a nice fire going despite the rain and we have a cozy afternoon. Luckily, before it's dark, the rain stops and the sun peeks out to shed its golden hue across the land and water. The next morning a North wind picks up and clears the sky right up. The only issue is that it's chilly and finally it truly feels like fall. Tori and I get into a fun argument before we pack up the canoe and head off. This was one of our favorite campsites of the whole trip. Paddling the canoe, we round a point and begin paddling down the main arm of the French River as we begin to hear and see many Vs of Canada Geese flying South. At that point, we get a little mixed up as to which way we should go but we decide to use the wild goose flight as a directional as we were both heading south. Our son Wesley has a rare neurological disease called Fox G1 Syndrome. We left early in the morning so we could eat breakfast on the remote road and save time breaking camp that morning. It wasn’t long before we were in Happy Valley-Goose Bay where we did laundry and went hiking with kids. We drove out of town towards Northwest River and found a place to call home for the night at an abandoned campground where we pulled up right on Gosling Lake. I set up the Tapui rooftop tent and then used my STIHL chainsaw to cut up firewood for our wood stove. Country food of Arctic Char was for dinner that night along with salad using lettuce, we grew in our vegetable garden. An early rise meant we got out of camp early and began canoeing on the French River. After a ways, we stopped at the French River Supply Post and grabbed a few things before heading on, traveling under the highway bridges towards Georgian Bay. Here, I talk about why the French is a Canadian Heritage River and share a little bit about the history of the voyages whose canoes plied these waters in the 18th and 19th centuries as they transported furs and trade goods to Grand Portage at the western end of Lake Superior's North Shore and back beginning in Montreal. We soon Negotiated Recolet Falls and Ran a rapid as a whole family. That evening the rains picked up and we had to keep the kids, and ourselves warm and dry by rigging up a tarp and getting a nice warming fire going. Traveling with kids like this is challenging and should only be done by parents who have adequate outdoor and canoeing experience. It can be especially changing because our son Wesley has a rare neurological disease called Fox G1 Syndrome. There's not much from the adventure trip that you won't see here as this is essentially all the episodes from the series back to back. This is true wilderness as it's a far-flung and lies well off the road system. It's a true adventure trip that includes canoeing portage and solo whitewater. The Bonnet Plume River's headwaters can only be accessed realistically via bush plane drop-off in summer. So, this is remote wild camping in the true sense of the word. Good outfitting including survival gear, camping and bushcrafter skills are key on Canada ourdoors survival trip like this. Trans-Labrador Hwy Remote Overlanding Adventure - E.4 - Hike With Kids, Massive Waterfall & Camping Jim Baird - Adventurer 2022-12-23 | #jimbairdadventurer #overland #outdoors Trans-Labrador Highway Remote Overlanding Adventure - E.4 - Massive Waterfall & Overland CampingAfter driving on a narrow trail back to Québec Highway 389 from the Lake Manicuagan , we head north through the mountains and eventually through some large-scale iron oar mining operations until we reach Labrador City. We camp on a esker with a beautiful view of a lake. The following day we continue east on the Trans-Labrador Highway and check out Churchill Falls which we reach by about a one mile hiking trail. The falls are amazing and so is the succeeding canyon. We find a side trail later that day and drive down it to find a nice place to camp where we light a campfire and cook up a nice meal for dinner. Wild Family - E.2 - 10-Day, 100km Canoe Camping Trip With Kids on Northern Ontario’s French River | Wild Family - E.2Day 6 of our French River canoe trip with kids started early in the morning as a slight drizzle came down on our wild campsite. After a camp breakfast of instant oatmeal in the wilderness, we loaded our canoe and began paddling. I fished for smallmouth Bass and soon ran a whitewater rapid. I solo rapids in our loaded, 18' prospector canoe as my wife Tori watches the kids. The day consisted of several more rapids which put us behind schedule. We were getting concerned about our time when just to add a little more stress, Hudson threw my new GoPro Hero 10 into the water, it was gone forever with all our footage. Things cheered up right afterward when we ran a swift with the family and the kids loved it. It was an emotional rollercoaster. Not long after we passed cross island which is said to be hunted by the ghosts of three missionaries who were buried there. Right after that we watched a whitetail deer, a large doe swim across the river and we got some great footage of her. We pushed on, paddling on calm water with little to no people around and soon decided on a beautiful campsite after completing about 20kms that day. We pitched our camping tent right by the river and I did a little over-the-fire cooking with the fish I'd caught earlier that day. It was an absolutely perfect evening and we were excited to see what the next day had in store. This was our longest and farthest canoe trip with both kids to date. Our baby Hudson was 14 months old and our son Wesley had just turned 4 years ole, and naturally, that comes with a lot of challenges, particularly because Wesley has a rare condition called Fox G1 Syndrome. Trans-Labrador Hwy Remote Overlanding Adventure E.3 - Northern Québec Route 389 to Station Uapishka Jim Baird - Adventurer 2022-12-16 | #jimbairdadventurer #camping #overland Trans-Labrador Hwy Remote Overlanding Adventure E. 3 - Northern Québec Route 389 to Station UapishkaChevrolet Silverado ZR2 with off road teardrop trailer in tow we head north on Northern Québec Route 389 to the Trans-Labrador Highway on this overland adventure that would take us through Labrador and then the island of Newfoundland. Camping out and family fun for everyone was the plan as my wife Tori and I had our two kids and the dog along. Nothing like a little off-grid living, a road trip and a hike with kids...especially in a place were we're surrounded by remote wilderness. We passed Manic 5, a huge power dam and then headed up a steep hill with several switchbacks as we pushed deep into Northern Québec through a long section of gravel highway. The road was very winding and felt sketchy in the earlier stretches where trucks were more prevalent. We entered the Uapishka (Groulx) Mountains and the scenery was quite beautiful as we drover adjacent to Lac Manicouagan and stopped at a pull over to take in a beautiful, mountain-shrouded view of the crater lake. Soon, we reached Station Uapishka, an outpost run by the indigenous Pessamit Innu Council. There are backpacking trails in the area and they offer, camping and rooms, while in season, cultural experiences and paddling trips are available. We drove our truck and trailer right up onto the beach to camp in what was our favourite spot yet! We had a nice bonfire, a good meal and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The next morning it was drizzling so we opened the awning on the trailer for some protection and ate breakfast before pulling out and continuing north to the Labrador border. Wild Family - E.1 - 10 Days & 110kms Canoe Camping on Northern Ontario's French River In early September, my family and I headed off on our 10-day canoe camping trip down Ontario's French River. Family fun for everyone and off grid living were the plans for this French River canoe trip, but with the two young kids along, we had our work cut out for us. Hiking with kids and family camping with kids can be exhausting and even terrifying at times because you want to make sure the kids are always safe. At the same time, you really make some incredible memories and all the work and planning is so worth it.Not long after pulling away from camp, I started experiencing a scary health issue that I think may have been caused by exasperated concussion symptoms but I still don't really know what was happening to me to this date. This video series picks up on day-5 of our adventure as we didn't film the first days of the trip were we remained camped in the same spot and did a number of shorter day trips. Our plan was to paddle down to Georgian Bay and then circle back up the French River's beautiful Voyageur Channel (the mouth of the French consists of many outlet channels). We'd then make our way to the access point at Heartley Bay were we'd have our vehicle shuttled from our starting point. This was our longest and farthest canoe trip with both kids to date. Trans-Labrador Hwy Remote Overlanding Adventure - E.2 - Northern Lights & Beluga Whales Jim Baird - Adventurer 2022-12-08 | #overland #jimbairdadventurer #camping Trans-Labrador Hwy Overlanding Adventure - E.2 - Northern Lights & Beluga Whales: Heading for Labrador, we took our time packing up at our campsite near Baie St. Paul, Québec, folded up our Tepui rooftop tent and traveled east along the north shore of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence hauling our off-road teardrop trailer. We saw Beluga Whales as we crossed the Saugenay on a ferry to Tadoussac and continued heading for Québec Highway 389. Lunch was in a beautiful spot by a river we enjoyed a couple sandwiches made with lettuce and tomatoes we grew in our garden. We found a place to camp late that evening, not far from where Hwy 138 we'd begins. We drove under a rustic covered bridge and found a beautiful spot with a view looking south over the ocean. We were not too far out of Baie Comeau where we'd reach Highway 138 the next day. It was a cool evening so we got a campfire going and Tori cooked up a delicious meal as we watched the sun go down. Later, after darkness fell, I got up from the fire and turned around to see the Northern Lights dancing in the nigh sky. They were mostly the typical green but we also saw red and purple.
