Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-05-12 | Day comes, night falls. The neon lights in the breeding station dim in the never-ending rhythm. Still blind and naked, the sixteen little bodies of the newborns climb over each other. Nearby, a pack plays on the back of the exhausted looking mother. A shelf wall full of cages - delivery room and home at the same time. After only three weeks, childhood is over and the rats enter the path that research has laid out for them. Ambivalent relationships develop between the animals and the scientists, as fleeting as they are surprising. GENE:SIS offers a completely new perspective on the world of laboratory rats and invites reflection on the relationship between humans and animals.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-05-01 | Ein ehrliches und schonungsloses Porträt über die Suche nach dem Sinn im Ruhestand.
Jadranka und Aleksandar Pavlovic haben sich vor 35 Jahren auf den Kanarischen Inseln kennengelernt. Zum Renteneintritt sind sie zurückgekehrt, haben sich getrennt und leben nun als Freunde auf zwei Inseln, fünfeinhalb Stunden voneinander entfernt. Hier folgt der Film ihrem neuen Leben im zerfallenen Inselparadies auf Gran Canaria und Teneriffa. Dabei beobachten wir den schwierigen Kampf gegen Langeweile, Krankheiten und die verlorene Beziehung. Um die Vergangenheit zu verdrängen, stürzt sich Jadranka in Arbeit und hat eine Bar eröffnet, während Aleksandar sich schwerfällig mit Arztbesuchen, versoffenen Bekanntschaften und schmerzhafter Liebeskummer plagt.

Cervus Rostratus: The Beaked Deer | Animated Short Film (2023)

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-04-26 | The debut episode of a fictional documentary series on unique prehistoric creatures introduces the Cervus Rostratus, Latin for "Beaked Deer."
The episode showcases a fossil, emphasising its distinctive features and the challenges of its discovery. Initially mistaken for a pterosaur, a 2005 find of an almost complete fossil confirmed it as a prehistoric artiodactyl, and therefore a member of the ungulates. Scientists consider it an early form of deer, but its exact placement in the deer family and evolution remains uncertain.

Through visual effects, the fossil of the Cervus Rostratus can be resurrected and witnessed in its natural habitat: a prehistoric forest.

Matapacos | Animated Short Film (2022)

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-04-21 | Negro Matapacos, Loukannikos, Kanellos, Vaquita are just a few names of stray dogs that became symbols for resistance by joining protest movements.

Loosely based on the story of Negro Matapacos the famous Chilean "Riot Dog" the stray Loco gets to know María a young protester. Together they radicalize and soon they are upfront on the big protests. One day they both go a step too far. They're being separated and María goes to jail. When she gets out several years later her courage and will has left. But when she finds out that Loco kept going to protests until he died and furthermore got famous for it she takes new courage.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-04-05 | Ahrtal, December 2021: The flood disaster was almost six months ago, and most of the houses have either been demolished or gutted. Markus is rebuilding his house thanks to the help of many helpers. Despite some setbacks, he is optimistic about the future. Horst, on the other hand, finds it difficult to come to terms with his experiences and sees humanity as having a responsibility due to the way it treats our planet. While the two and many more in the Ahr valley are struggling with the aftermath of the flood, car fans are doing their laps at the nearby Nürburgring, the longest Formula 1 track in the world.

Let the experiment begin! Taking the terms “Motion” and “Design” completely literally, this humorous mixture of professional showreel and wacky commercial film gives an inspiring insight into the colorful world of the Motion Design diploma postgraduate course at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg with a lot of charm and a touch of weirdness.

MAX-R Introduction

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-03-03 | MAX-R is a 30-month Innovation Action that will define, develop and demonstrate a complete pipeline of tools for making, processing and delivering maximum-quality XR content in real time. The pipeline will be based on open APIs, open file and data transfer formats to encourage development and support the integration of new open source and proprietary tools. MAX-R builds on recent research and advances in Virtual Production technologies to develop real-time processes to deliver better quality, greater efficiency, enhanced interactivity, and novel content based on XR media data.

The interdisciplinary Consortium of eleven partners from five countries covers the chain from technology development and product innovation to creative experiment and demonstration, and from XR media creation to delivery to the final consumer. It is built around Europe’s leading media technology developers, together with creative organisations operating in AR/VR/MR, Virtual Production, interactive games, new media, TV, video and news, multimedia and immersive performance.

Flowers Before You Die | Spec Ad | Fleurop (2023)

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-02-23 | "Flowers Before You Die" is a spec commercial for the flower gifting service Fleurop, in which the funeral speaker informs the mourning guests at a funeral in a professional but dry and humorous way, that 88% of men typically receive flowers for the first time at their own funeral.

This information makes a grieving woman reconsider and she present her flowers to the cemetery gardener instead of the deceased. At this surprise he flies away with his bouquet.

The spot ends with a call to action to send flowers - preferably with Fleurop - before it's too late.

Schwebepunkte | Experience Trailer (2022)

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-02-20 | The spatial installation SCHWEBEPUNKTE consists of seven interactive swings that have been hung in a warehouse, which has been empty for years. The swings invite you to sit, swing and play, casting colorful circles of light on the wall.

With every swing, a sound is emitted from the wooden body in a moment of weightlessness. The more visitors swing, the more the sounds merge into music. The darkened room becomes a body of sound and appears to be set in motion by the swinging points of light. Long ropes become the strings of an instrument that is played from the inside, in which the players shape the atmosphere and are carried by it.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2024-02-09 | The hacker Zarb0x is confused from the moment he opens the leak folder "JESSY.zip". Who is the young woman whose photos, files and vlogs have been collected here? And if she was a You-Tuber, why can't he find her online? With these questions, he turns directly to the YouTube community and begins to gradually post more videos with material from the folder. This documents how Jessy's YouTube career took a bleak run and how contact with viewers changed, from a friendly dialogue to a game of hate, fear and destruction. But the riddle about Jessy's disappearance is not easy to solve and it doesn't take long for Zarb0x to get caught in the crosshairs himself ...

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2023-12-22 | The Bear is an interactive bedtime story for tablets, in which every design aspect is meant to make players a little more sleepy. The story is about the little one and the bear and their shared adventure. It is the first large installment from the "World of Gra".

"World of Gra" is an expansive story world that deals with themes of growing, finding belonging and home. In this world different stories are told in different formats. Apart from the shared visual style these stories are always supposed to reconnect you with the intimate moment you experience just before falling asleep. The world isn't just supposed to be narrative, it is supposed to create new bedtime-routines. The Bear is the first installment in a series of games, short films, picturebooks, audiobooks and toys.

Wenn man aus Storkow, Brandenburg, herausfährt, verlässt man den Ort im Norden über Neu-Boston, im Westen liegt Philadelphia — Namen, die wie Denkmäler funktionieren. Denkmäler für Sehnsüchte, die hier sprichwörtlich versandet sind. Sunny (30) und seine Mutter Nena (60) kommen aus Storkow. Ihr Leben, wenn’s gut ist, spielt sich als bunter, langer Trip ab. Und überwiegend nachts, in der einzigen Bar weit und breit. Eines Abends zieht Nena ungewöhnlicherweise mit einer alten Bekanntschaft ab. Sunny schwingt sich in sein Auto und brettert durch die Dunkelheit. Ampeln sind für ihn nur rote Lichter auf langen Stangen. Das sieht die gleichaltrige Liv allerdings anders. Schon berufsbedingt. Sie ist Verkehrspolizistin und hält Sunny an. Während der Kontrolle funkt es zwischen den beiden. Alles könnte wunderbar sein. Aber Sunny fällt zwischen zwei Stühle oder zwischen zwei Frauen: Liv und seine Mutter Nena. Und er fällt zwischen die Sehnsucht nach einer Perspektive (oder sagen wir einem eigenen Leben) und den unvermeidlichen Schmerz, der mit jeder Emanzipation verbunden ist.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2023-11-10 | Otis is on a stroll through a nuclear test area without being fully aware of that. His perception seems to be influenced by the sunglasses he is wearing and he’s seems to be looking for something or someone. As soon as he takes off his sunglasses to wipe the sweat of his face, the past of this history-charged place becomes visible and he flees into a transcendental journey through space and time.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2023-11-03 | The longing for security, closeness and love accompanies us from birth. Since then, we have been yearning to return to the paradise from which we were expelled, searching for spiritual and physical security and suffering from its scarcity. When we finally have reached a safe harbour, we already dread the thought of losing the connection. In this experimental music video, the joy of intimacy and the pain of its loss are explored through textures, movements and colours that merge with the emotive harmonies, textures and soundscapes of the music.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg 2023-10-16 | Conchita, Gärtner, Fritzi and Larry: Four men, one ride. Accompanied by their boss and his wife, they travel from carnival to carnival. From fair to fair. They build and dismantle. Turn round after round. Canceling out what seems impossible elsewhere: they make people fly and look down at earth from above. Launching visitors into the night sky and back down to solid ground.

None of the visitors suspect what is happening behind the scenes. HIGHRIDERS tells the tale of people who need each other and maybe even love each other, but are unable to talk about it.
