Tanzania | Cinematic FPV Ellis van Jason 2023-06-25 | Whenever I move to a new passion project, I challenge myself: What can I do to make it better, more immersive and create something never seen before. It’s really hard to work up those expectations but it’s my fundamental driving force since day one. It pushes me to not to lean back and relax but instead work harder than the year before to grow a director and filmmaker. This passion project is very special as it started with a big technical development way before the trip. The goal was clear, there was no other way than to use high-quality cinema cameras for this passion project to capture animals in slow motion and to step up the quality. For this mission, the the current Cinelifter FPV drones were not sufficient as I used them before for 2 years in the same environment and there was room for improvement. They only flew 4-5 minutes, are slow and very noisy. We needed something that is quieter, faster and flies much longer. After a couple of months of development Josh and I finished our Startruss which I then took into the field to focus on the creative part of this passion project and see what this drone is capable of. I was surprised how much extra 5-6 minutes matter when filming animals and the lower noise is a game changer when filming animals. So being able to fly with a FX6 or Komodo on top while cursing for 10 minutes I was able to be more creative.
