National Parks, Aboriginal Art & Wildlife in New South Wales | Sydney, Australia Travels with V and Steve 2024-01-20 | From our port in Sydney's The Rocks area, we took a tour North of Sydney to two National Parks that contained waterfalls, wildlife, aboriginal artwork, strange trees and stunning scenery. We got so lucky with Australian wildlife - we saw kangaroos, two red-tailed cockatoos, two wedge-tailed eagles, the tiniest frog, Australian bush turkeys, crabs and one rather large spider!We began the day at the Australian Reptile Park (see our video of this amazing place!). We then visited Somersby Falls, Brisbane Water National Park's Bulgandry Aboriginal Engraving Site, had lunch at a botanic garden, did a walk in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park from the Kalkari Visitor Centre and finished our day on the Gibberagong Track Mangrove Boardwalk in that national park. After the sun set, the Botanics were transformed with lights, music, fire, projections on buildings and even Santa makes an appearance. It was so beautiful and most of the designated areas are garden themed with different flowers, trees lit up and the water feature studded with stars. Along with the reptiles that give the park its name like Crocodiles, Alligators, Monitors, Skinks and several types of snakes, there are cuddly mammals and so many native Australian animals. We started our day meeting Koalas and petting one on its back! They are as soft as they look. Equally soft are the kangaroos that we fed and got to pet! We saw Potoroo, Quokka, a Dingo, Echidna, Wallaby, and perhaps the strangest looking mammal on Earth, the Platypus! Cruising New Zealands Stunning Milford Sound Travels with V and Steve 2023-11-26 | Milford Sound is a fiord or fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island within Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve. Situated on the west coast of the South Island, Milford Sound is a must-see with its towering peaks, cascading waterfalls and jaw-dropping views. It is, arguably, one of the most famous beauty spots in New Zealand. We were on a World Cruise that travelled through the sound but there are boat trips with day and overnight tours from land that explore the sound and it's amazing waterfalls. When we were there it was rainy and the waterfalls were thundering down the mountainsides. It’s known for towering Mitre Peak, plus rainforests and waterfalls like Stirling and Bowen falls, which plummet down its sheer sides. SO Many Native Tasmanian Animals at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary! | Hobart, Tasmania, Australia Travels with V and Steve 2023-11-04 | During our tour from the port of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia we visited the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary near Brighton, around a 30-minute drive from the cruise port. Bononrong means native friend or companion, and all the animals at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary are native to Tasmania. This is a true sanctuary, not a zoo. They rescue injured, ill and orphaned animals with the goal of releasing healthy animals back into the wild. For those too old, ill or injured, they care for the animals. It is a great place to see and get close to native Tasmanian animals. Field National Park, Tasmania's first national park, where we do the Tall Trees Walk (and wow, does it live up to its name) to both Horseshoe Falls and Russell Falls. We then visited the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary which has Tasmanian native wildlife. The entire visit will be a separate video but we saw Tasmanian Devils, fed kangaroos, watched an echidna eat and saw Stella the wombat, Our last stop was the incredibly picturesque viewpoint from Mt. Wellington. Not only can you see all of Hobart, the port town, but a big part of Tasmania! A scenic drive along the Derwent River gets us from one place to another. While we saw the outside of the Stone Street Studios when there was a big screen for the filming of the latest Avatar movie and the outside of Park Road Productions, we visited Weta Cave with a small museum of movie memorabilia including props from LOTR and the Hobbit and others like King Kong, Avatar and more. It's a must-see for movie fans. We also see a Weta, the insect the special effects studio is named for! Highlights of Wellington, New Zealand | Viewpoints, The Coast & Downtown Travels with V and Steve 2023-10-14 | Wellington, New Zealand's capital, has everything for a visitor, from gorgeous viewpoints, a coastline and marine reserve that is only 10 minutes from the city, movie-making magic and a cable car that takes you to the stunning botanical gardens. My sister and I had a private tour that began at Mount Victoria with incredible views of the city and harbour. We then visited the museum and shop at Weta Cave where you could see and purchase props from films like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar, King Kong and others. We drove to the coast just outslide of Wellington for the beautiful Red Rocks Reserve at the Taputeranga Marine Reserve which has a small museum with information on New Zealand and its flora and fauna, particularly what is found around that marine reserve. We could see all of Wellington from the Brooklyn Wind Turbine, the first for New Zealand. We see part of the town, particularly fashionable Cuba Street with its art and cafes. As Wellington is the capital, we stopped by the Parliament buildings, three buildings from different architectural time periods - the 1970's, the 1920's and the Gothic. We end our visit with the first wooden church in Wellington, Old St Paul's. We did ride the Wellington Cable Car and visit the Botanical Gardens, but that will be in a separate video.Wellington in a wonderful town and we enjoyed our visit. This aquarium has many New Zealand native and endemic species like the Little or Blue Penguin, the Kiwi and The Tuatara , New Zealand's living Dinosaur. Informative, the aquarium shows why New Zealand has so many earthquakes and volcanoes and has a Dinosaur display. But the animals are the star of the show! Fish, sharks, a huge turtle from Fiji, rays, puffer fish, crayfish, lizards, small turtles and more fill the tanks and many can be seen from an underwater walkway. The aquarium offers a small cafe and gift shop, too. My sister and I brought home Dora, the little blue penguin of the year! (A small plush/stuffed animal, not an actual penguin!!). It's a great place to visit for those interested in history or those more interested in the ghost tour with many ghostly sightings having been reported. It is New Zealand's oldest prison complex.Today, visitor's can see the cells where prisoners were kept along with the conditions that changed over the life of the prison. There are different wings, a small cemetery area, the hanging yard, solitary confinement and shower blocks. Art Deco Napier | Gardens, Coastline Travels with V and Steve 2023-09-30 | Napier, New Zealand is coast city in Hawkes Bay. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1931, the town was rebuilt in the Art Deco style and now claims the title of Art Deco Capital of the World. The city has much to offer tourists and cruisers and we started our day at the National Aquarium of New Zealand which has several species endemic to New Zealand like the Little Penguin or the Little Blue Penguin, the Tuatara and the Kiwi. We walked along the beach-front, tree-lined promenade Marine Parade with its sunken gardens, sculptures, skate park and even stopped at Lick This ice cream shop. The downtown boasts art deco buildings including the six sisters, a group of six almost identical houses in the art deco style. We finish our time in Napier at the Historical Napier Prison which operated for over 130 years. We ran out of time to see things like the Winery region, the botanical gardens and Cape Kidnappers.It's a beautiful city with such friendly people. Volunteers met our ship and stayed with us as we waited in line for the last shuttles back to the ship. The visitor centre has a wealth of information so it's a good place to start a visit. There was a shuttle from the cruise ship to the information centre and the aquarium. Hobbiton Movie Set from Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit | Tauranga, New Zealand Travels with V and Steve 2023-09-23 | When scouting for locations for The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, scouts for director Peter Jackson came across Alexander Farm, still a working farm, and found their Shire, the home of the Hobbits. After the Lord of the Rings movies, the sets were mostly destroyed. For The Hobbit movies, the sets were rebuilt but made permanent and it is now a fantastic tourist attraction. For fans of the movies, it's amazing to see The Shire, Bilbo and Froto Baggins house and Samwise Gangees Hobbit Hole but even non-fans can appreciate the craftsmanship and surroundings. The rolling hills of the farm and Hobbiton are home to so many flowers and a crazy amount of butterflies! After seeing all of the Hobbit Holes, the tour ends at The Green Dragon pub where you are offered a drink. Movie magic comes to life as you walk along the path at Hobbiton. The views of Auckland were incredible and it is such a beautiful city. With a little sunlight left, we walked around to see an exhibition on Maori women and Albert Park. The city is so vibrant and lit up at night. We really need more time here to explore, but we made the best of the time we had. From our ship we enjoyed views of the Auckland Harbour Bridge and The Cloud. From the Sky Tower we could see or learned information about the Eden Park rugby stadium, the town hall, the. Aitutaki & One Foot Island | Island Paradise | Cook Islands Travels with V and Steve 2023-09-13 | Our second stop in the Cook Islands was Aitutaki where we went snorkelling and I walked around among the fish in the shallow water. We took a boat to One Foot Island where we walked in the sand and water and saw a sea turtle. There where so many cute little crabs on the white sand beach. We had a snack on One Foot Island and headed back to the cruise ship. This island is a beautiful paradise with white sand beaches and gorgeous clear water. We had stunning day.Aitutaki is one of the Cook Islands, which are in the South Pacific. It consists of a main island, a turquoise lagoon and a surrounding barrier reef. One Foot Island is uninhabited but there is a small shop and post office. This beach is supposed to be one of the best beach in Australasia. It has powdery white sand, warm azure water and swaying palm and coconut trees. Rarotonga Glass Bottom Boat Lagoon Cruise & Island Visit | Cook Islands Travels with V and Steve 2023-09-09 | Kia Orana! Pulling up to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands is such a beautiful sight! We chose the Muri Lagoon Glass-Bottom Boat Cruise which included lunch and snorkelling on an uninhabited island. We stopped for snorkelling from the boat, but it was a little deep for me so I watched fish from the boat and the glass bottom. We then cruised the stunning lagoon to an island (Koromiri) for lunch where I did get in the water and saw a few fish, some right off the beach. During lunch, we got a coconut-husking demonstration. Tahitis Ferry | Getting the Ferry from Tahiti to Moorea | Papeete, Tahiti Travels with V and Steve 2023-09-02 | On our visit to Papeete, Tahiti, we took the ferry for our overnight stay in Moorea. It was an easy process, the ferry is almost beside where the cruise ship docks and in the centre of town. There is a ticket window on the bottom floor and waiting rooms or gates on the upper floor. If you have any questions, everyone is so helpful. There are beautiful views from the ferry, even in rainy weather, and it only takes about 30 minutes and there is food and drink for sale on the ferry or you can bring your own. There are inside seats and seats outside, or you can stand by the railing outside. Overwater Bungalow at Manava Resort, Moorea | Watching Fish Under the Table!! Travels with V and Steve 2023-08-30 | This is an overwater bungalow at Mananva Beach Resort and Spa on Moorea. My sister and I stayed there last year and we went back this year during the World Cruise for an overnight stop in Papeete, Tahiti, so we booked an overwater bungalow that also had a mountain view. The rooms are beautiful and the deck right on the lagoon is stunning. The best part is the glass-bottom table where you can watch fish swim by. We could spend hours just watching the fish! We love the Manava and were thrilled to be back! We got a brief but strong rain shower, then an orange sunset to end our day. In the dark, fish are attracted to the lights on the bungalows. The bed is big and comfy and there is a tub and shower. It was so nice to have a bathtub after being on a cruise ship for a couple of months. The rich wood finishes feel luxurious and there are flowers left on the bed and in the bathroom. We think this hotel is special. Pitcairn Island Cruise-Around | HMS Bounty Mutineer Descendants Travels with V and Steve 2023-08-26 | Pitcairn Island is the only inhabited island of the Pitcairn Islands, and some of the inhabitants are descendants from the mutineers from HMS Mutiny (the same ship and people in the books and movies about Mutiny on the Bounty). There isn't a port of much of a dock, so cruise ships go around it, and the views are stunning. Islanders, even some of the Bounty descendants, come aboard the ship to sell Pitcairn and HMS Bounty themed souvenirs.HMS Bounty was in Tahiti when a group of men led by Fletcher Christian mutinied, sending the Captain William Bly back to England on a small boat with food and men loyal to him. The mutineers lived on Tahiti for a while, but some spread out in the South Pacific knowing men from England would be back to find them. Amazing Easter Island! | Rapa Nui Moai & Traditions | Hanga Roa Travels with V and Steve 2023-08-19 | Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, defies description. It is beyond-bucket list and beyond amazing! It's a special place with special people and you feel that through any time you spend on the island. We were lucky enough to spend two days on Easter Island and we got to see most of the highlights of the island with a focus on the world-famous Moai statues. Easter Island is a tender port and many ships have to skip it due to rough seas. Right as you step onto the pier, you see your first Moai! It is an unforgettable moment. The first day, we saw the quarry where the topknots where made for the Moai who wear them, the Moai with the re-inserted coral eyes at Tahi where there are three restored Ahus (platforms) and the only 7 statues that face the ocean at Au Akivi. The second day, we explored the Rano Raraku quarry where it is believed most of the Moai where created and where over 400 Moai still stand or lie. This place was incredible! We saw 15 restored Moai on Ahu Tongariki. The sheer size of these Maoi is awe-inspiring. We finished the second day on Anakena beach, home to the first Moai to be re-erected in modern times Autre Huki and the restored Ahu Nau Nau platform with five Moai that include back tatoos.One guide explained the Moai statues were built to house the spirit of their ancestors. Standing next to the incredibly imposing figures, you can feel how sacred they are to the people. The Worlds Oldest Mummies! Chinchorro Mummies at In Situ Museum, Arica Chile Travels with V and Steve 2023-08-16 | There are mummies older than anything found in Egypt! The Chinchorro people of Chile were preserving their dead 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. The earliest mummy that has been found in Egypt dated around 3000 BCE, while the oldest anthropogenically modified Chinchorro mummy dates from around 5050 BCE. This video shows a museum of 48 of those ancient mummified bodies.In Arica, Chile, we walked from the port to the In Situ Colon 10 Museum (Museo de Sitio Colón 10), a small museum that houses some of the world's oldest mummies. An architect planned a hotel at this site but found the mummies when construction started. They were studied by the university and considered too fragile to move, so the museum was created with them in situ, right in the spot where they were found, A glass floor now covers them and the wall beside the glass floor explains each mummy, which is numbered. When we were buying tickets, the lady at the ticket desk gave us a copy of the English translation of the information on the wall. Many of the mummies have wigs, wrappings and one even has the red clay mask used by the Chinchorro people. While I have read comments online about these are just skeletons, archaeologically, they are mummies because they show intentional mummification. While bodies can be mummified by the desert, and these people lived in the Atacama desert, these bodies were prepared and attempts were made to preserve them.The museum offers signs with information on the mummies and the Chinchorro people and exhibits upstairs show how the Chinchorro lived. There is also a beautiful view of Arica from the upstairs.More mummies can be found just outside Arica at the Museo Arqueologico San Miguel de Azapa but it was closed on Mondays and we were there on a Monday. It also houses a museum of history and weapons, a monument to the unknown soldier and offers stunning views of Arica and the surrounding coastline.Beside the port, you can see the Armada de Chile building and a statue of Arturo Pratt, the father of Chile and founder of Arica.In this video, we begin by visiting In Situ (10 Colon) museum with 35 Chinchorro mummies left where they were found when an architect attempted to build a hotel on the site. The mummies, many of which look like skeletons, show evidence of intentional mummification and give you a look into Chinchurro culture. To get there, we walk through Plaza Colon, the main square, and see San Marcos Cathedral, designed by Gustav Eiffel. Next we visit Al Poblado Artesanal, a reproduction Spanish village housing artist shops. The reproduction church has an interesting haunting story. We then see 1,000-year-old petroglyphs on a hillside in the Atacama desert. Some think these were way markers like road signs today. Santiago de Chile Highlights | Port of Valparaiso, Chile Travels with V and Steve 2023-08-09 | From the port of Valparaiso, Chile, we visited Santiago de Chile, the capital and largest city. It is the political and financial centre of Chile and houses the executive and judicial branches of government. To get there, you drive through the Casablanca wine valley and usually have views of the Andes mountains, although it was too smoggy or foggy to see them on our trip. We started in the main square, Plaza de Armas, the heart of colonial Santiago, and visited the 18th century Metropolitan Cathedral. The Plaza de Armas has statues, monuments, buildings and plaques in the pavement describing the history of the city. We then took a bus tour of the city to see parks, monuments and important buildings including the Presidential Palace and home. We passed by statues of Bernardo O'Higgins, Manuel Bulnes and Jose San Martin. In modern Santiago, we passed by Gran Torre, the tallest building in Chile. We enjoyed lunch at a restaurant that had Chilean music before going back to the ship.Our tour guide said tourists must be careful in Santiago and should travel with tour groups due to crime and, in particular, pickpocketing and theft. Osorno Volcano & Petrohue Waterfalls | Stunning Views! | Puerto Montt, Chile Travels with V and Steve 2023-08-02 | From the port of Puerto Montt, Chile, we visited the Osorno Volcano, driving up to an incredible viewpoint of the Andes Mountains. We could see the active volcano Calbuco and it looked like it was puffing smoke! To get there, we drove by Lake Llanquihu (Yank-Key-Way) with gorgeous views of Osorno. After trying kuchen in the mountain's shadow, we visited Petrohue (Petro-Way) Waterfalls of the Petrohue River which flows between crystallised (crystallized) lava. There are so many amazing viewpoints and a Lover's Trail that we explore. We enjoyed lunch, again with stunning views of Osorno, at Yankee Way Lodge (a takeoff of the lake's name). To end our time in Puerto Montt, we walked around the tourist town of Puerto Varas, known as the City of Roses, and enjoyed some ice cream.The volcano, with its glacial peak, is breathtaking and I'd never seen a river that runs through old lava. Chilean Patagonias First Fort | Fort Bulnes & The Strait of Magellan | Punta Arenas, Chile Travels with V and Steve 2023-07-29 | From the port of Punta Arenas, Chile, we visited Fort Bulnes, a recreation of an 1843 and the first Chilean settlement in Patagonia. It failed in just six years because of the harsh conditions and lack of close drinking water, so the settlers chose Punta Arenas instead. On a bluff above the Strait of Magellan, the recreation stays true to the original and even uses the wood and some floors from the original fort. At the fort, there is a short walk to a viewpoint of the Strait of Magellan that is beautiful. Just a short drive away, there is a Museo del Estrecho, a Museum of the Strait which is part history and part natural history museum that gives history of the area and settlers.After Fort Bulnes, we returned to Punta Arenas to walk around the Plaza de Armas, (Plaza de Armas Muñoz Gamero) a grand plaza with tree-lined paths, benches & a memorial to Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, and important buildings like the Sara Braun Palace, the City Hall and the Provencal Government Building. The Stunning Chilean Fjords | El Brujo Glacier, Mountains, Waterfalls, Sea Lions Travels with V and Steve 2023-07-26 | Travelling the southern coast of Chile from Ushuaia to Puerto Montt, the ship sailed for two days through the Chilean Fjords, a stunning area of channels, glaciers, mountains and waterfalls.Starting at Isla Negra, we navigate through the Strait of Magellan and Darwin Channel to El Brujo Glacier, part of the third largest glacial area in the world. Seeing ice chunks floating by the ship was fun. The first day was cloudy but the second day brightened up to show just how incredible the scenery in this area is, I kept saying it was a Bob Ross Painting, it just doesn't look real! We saw sea lions playing in the water, riding our ship's wake and sleeping on a rock by a lighthouse and SO many incredible waterfalls, some tumbling down across mountains. The world's southernmost railway travels through part of Tierra Del Fuego with stops at at waterfall. Situated in the Pipo Valley, the heritage train is pulled by a replica locomotive in the style of the early 20th century. We cruised around Bird Island (Isla de los Pajaros) with terns and Cormorants, and Sea Lion Island (Isla de los Lobos) with a colony of sleepy sea lions. We then saw the Lighthouse at the End of the World. With exceptional scenery of Tierra Del Fuego and city views of Ushuaia with the tall granite mountain peaks above it, a Beagle. Channel Tour is a must-do!Named after HMS Beagle, the channel was visited by Charles Darwin during the ship's second trip. It is located at the extreme tip of South America. From Google - 'Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago at South America’s southernmost tip, shared by Chile and Argentina. It’s known for its dramatic landscape of snowy mountains, glaciers, tundra and wind-sculpted trees. Its main island, Isla Grande, is home to the Argentine resort town of Ushuaia. Sometimes called “the End of the World,” Ushuaia is a gateway to the region and Antarctica to the south.'We had an evening to explore the National Park of Tierra Del Fuego in Argentina, near the port of Ushuaia. We did a couple of short hikes and saw some of the incredible scenery in the park. We began at Ensenada Bay with a crystal clear lake and a few birds, the Caracara, a raptor with long wings and a flat head. It also hosts the southernmost Post Office in the world, when it's open. We walked the Lapataia Bay lookout trail to Bahia Lapataia, Lapataia Bay, with a stunning platform with beautiful views. We also walked the Beaver Lodge Hike to learn about how introduced beavers have changed the water flow and created an ecosystem of their own in the park. Then we took in the views from the Visitor's Centre. Lastly, we saw a grey fox as we visited Acigami Lake with views of nearby Chile. This is a stunning place and is a must-see while in Ushuaia. Travels with V and Steve 2023-07-12 | With gorgeous granite mountains behind it and the Beagle Channel laid out in front of it, Ushuaia, Argentina is considered the end of the world. The only thing south of Ushuaia is Antarctica. Cruise ships pull into the Beagle Channel with a breathtaking view of the mountains. In the city itself, we stopped by The End of the World Prison which is now a museum complex that includes a prison museum, and art, antarctic and maritime museums. There is also an End of the World Museum. In a main square, there is a park-like setting with Plaza Islas Malvinas, a memorial for those lost in the Falklands War. We see Martial Glacier in a stunning mountain setting in the Martial Mountain Range, then enjoy a snack at a tea house in the woods,. Lunch is at Hard Rock Cafe with a look at a small bit of memorabilia. Laguna del Diablo is a park with a gorgeous lake. In the city centre, there are historic gardens and houses like the Governor's House. There are two types of tours available, the city bus and the city train. We took the Ushuaia City Train to some stunning panoramic viewpoints and a drive past La Mission Barrio, where the first settlers chose to live.Ushuaia is the capital of Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina. Tierra Del Fuego National Park is minutes from the city. Much of the town's infrastructure, including the famous End of the World Train in Tierra Del Fuego, was built by prisoners, sent to Ushuaia because of its isolation.What a gorgeous place. But the cemetery is so much more! It is the final resting place of Argentina's famous from singers and actors to politicians. Most people go straight to Eva Peron's grave but this cemetery is stunning and well worth some time to wander around. Our guide said much like houses, the rich and famous tried to outdo each other with statues and mausoleums at this cemetery and the results are stunning!Burials include the wife of liberator Jose San Martin, the founder of the Argentine Navy, at least 17 Presidents of Argentina, leaders of Argentina before the revolution, actors, poets, first ladies, Nobel prize winners and so many more notable people.Our guide said some mausoleums no longer have family members to pay for or visit the site so after 15 years, they are put back up for sale. You can see some newly refurbished mausoleums and some in a state of disrepair.It is a fascinating look into the world of Argentina's great and good and some of the tombs have incredible statues and decoration. We were there two days and we explored as many highlights as possible with the Buenos Aires City Bus hop on hop off and a private day tour and group night tour. The Hop on Hop off goes by so many of the main sights and is 3 1/2 hours long! The best place to start is the Plaza de Mayo, a city square with important buildings and the site of the city's foundation. It is where the revolution started and celebrates Argentina's independence from Spain. Important buildings include Casa Rosada the government house, Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral (one-time home to now Pope Francis), and Cabildo, the former seat of the Colonial Government. The panoramic view from the second cable car stop is not to be missed! We drove by the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, which were packed due to fantastic sunny, hot weather. The next day, we took a 4 X 4 tour through the largest urban park in the world, Tijuca Forest. While walking to a beautiful waterfall, I was amazed at the peace and tranquility in the middle of the big city. Next, we went to another area to visit the famous Christ the Redeemer statue with stunning views of Sugarloaf Mountain and Rio De Janeiro. It is worth the over 200 steps to the base of the statue! Along the way, we saw Guanabara Bay and one of the largest stadiums in the world, the Maracana Stadium. From the bus and 4 x 4, we took in sights of the city. After an Atlantic crossing, our World Cruise stopped at Salvador, Brazil, also known as Salvador de Bahia since it is the capital of the Bahia region of Brazil and the first capital of the entire country. We visited it's gorgeous historic old town, the Pelourinho neighbourhood with cobbled streets and bright colonial buildings. We stepped inside the incredible gold covered Church of San Francisco or Sao Francisco. The church boasts over 800 kilograms of gold throughout its decorations. Salvador is known for its African and Brazilian culture with some European influence and is known as the home of the samba. Founded in 1549, the Pelourinho neighbourhood is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also visited the lighthouse for a photo stop and the Mercado Modelo market for shopping. A Panoramic Tour of Sao Vicente From The Port of Mindelo | Cabo Verde | Cape Verde Travels with V and Steve 2023-06-02 | Cape Verde, or Cabo Verde, is an African Island in the Atlantic Ocean. From the port of Mindelo, we took a panoramic tour of the island. We visited quickly a small museum in Mindelo before heading for sweeping views and the beach. The first stop was the windy Monte Verde for sweeping and stunning views of the island and the port city of Mindelo. Our next stop was a wavy Salamansa Beach. We had just enough time to walk through the sand and listen to the roar of the waves. Last was a cultural dance show with snacks. St Vincent or Sao Vincente is a beautiful island and our guide said they are trying to get more tourism infrastructure in place. Funchal & Madeira Highlights | Riberia Brava & Cabo Girao | Stunning Views & City Highlights Travels with V and Steve 2023-05-30 | From the port of Funchal we first explored the gorgeous island of Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal. We stopped and walked around the cute town of Ribeira Brava with beautiful views and I tried the Portuguese Tart with a coffee. We then went 2,000 feet about the shoreline at Cabo Girao with the most spectacular views of Madeira from the world's second highest cliff. As we drove around the island, we saw terraces and small towns including a lookout at Camera Des Lobos which overlooks the fishing village. We then headed back to Funchal for the hop-on hop-off tour bus which pointed out the highlights of this pretty port town and capital of Madeira. Gibraltar | The Rock, Monkeys, Cave Light Show, Stunning Views Travels with V and Steve 2023-05-26 | We couldn't go to our next port because of strikes, so we stopped in Cadiz, Spain and we decided on an excursion to Gibraltar. We got to tour the Rock which included several cheeky Barbary Macaque monkeys (don't ever feed them!). One of the highlights of the tour is St. Michael's Cave which is lit up with projections and lights while music surrounds you. It was stunning. The tour began with views of the rock and the lighthouse from which you can see Spain and Morocco, Europe and Africa and both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The sun glistening off the Strait of Gibraltar was gorgeous. After watching monkeys jump on top the small tour buses, we spent time in the town and had lunch. Barcelonas Pueblo Espanol Open-Air Architectural Museum | Poble Espanyol | Barcelona Spain Travels with V and Steve 2023-05-23 | While visiting Barcelona, we also toured the open-air architectural museum Pueblo Espanol or Poble Espanyol. Built in the 1920's for a world exhibition, the museum shows off the architectural styles of Spain. It was due to close after the exhibition but was so popular it now has cafes, shops, exhibitions and performances.
