How to Make a Sugar Snake lamwoomedia 2020-03-17 | This Sugar Snake demonstration was a chemistry experiment conducted during Science Week at SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School on 5 April 2018. How to make a sugar snake (aka black snake)1. Put sand in a metal dish. The sand is there to serve as a kind of support and to make sure that there is an even distribution of heat.2. Pour enough alcohol (or other kind of fuel like lighter fluid) onto the sand so that it becomes wet.3. Put 1 part (e.g., 10 grams) of baking soda onto the sand. In our experiment, a paper tube was used to help shape the baking soda into a mound. 4. Cover the mound of baking soda with 40 grams of sugar. The exact amounts are not important. It is the ratio that is important. The ratio of sugar to baking soda should be 4:1. 5. Light the wet sand on fire. The snake will slowly grow for around 10 to 20 minutes. Processes:Some of the sugar and baking soda combusts, producing water vapor and carbon dioxide gas. Some of the material doesn’t have access to oxygen. Instead of combusting, it undergoes thermal decomposition, with the sugar producing solid carbon (which gives the snake its shape and color), and the baking soda producing sodium carbonate. SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School Anniversary Video lamwoomedia 2016-03-16 | Join us as we look back on the first 45 years of SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School. Some things have changed. For example, the school uniforms are completely different and the campus has been renovated several times. However, some things have remained constant. For example, the school has always encouraged its students to pursue academic excellence while also discovering and developing interests, participating in extra-curricular activities (with an emphasis on music) and serving the community. When putting together the video, I tried to think of a way to cram in 45 years of school life into two-and-a-half minutes. I chose to present the video as a kind of how-to guide for developing a strong school. There needs to be a sense vision and mission, and there needs to be a campus, caring teachers and dedicated staff. However, a school is really about the students, about the things they experience, the things they learn, the things they discover and, most importantly, the people they become. Therefore, this video is dedicated to all the students who have joined us over the years.One of the scary but satisfying things of being a teacher is to see students grow up. They arrive here when they are around 12 years old and before you know it, they have graduated and are off to pursue further studies, develop careers and follow their dreams. They take with them their memories, but they leave behind a kind of shared culture, they leave behind a tradition for the next generation of students to build upon. This is the message I tried to express at the end of the video. There are tons more photos I had wanted to include, but time was limited. Hopefully. I will be able to add them in future videos. I hope you enjoy this video. (STR)School HistorySKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School is an EMI (http://www.lamwoo.edu.hk/) secondary school located in the Kwai Chung district of Hong Kong. The school was named on honour of Mr Lam Woo (1870-1933), a renowned businessman and philanthropist who was involved in the Chinese reform movement led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Mr. Lam is shown in right photos of the "Will to serve" part of the video.The school was set up by the Anglican Church of Hong Kong (known locally as Sheung Keung Hui ) with support from the Lam family who continue to show strong support for the school. Classes started in 1970, with classes being held at a nearby primary school, but the school itself was opened in 1971. The school was officially opened by Dr. C. S. Lam (shown at the right of the center photo), the first principal Revd Lee Tung-cheng (shown at the left of the center photo) and the Bishop of the Hong Kong and Macau Diocese. In the video, you can see photographs of the next principals, Mrs Emily Kwong and Ms Rhonda Leung, and our current principal Mr Chan Ka-yun. Photos from the 1990s were mainly stored on CDs, so it was simply a matter of trying to wade through as many CDs as possible before the deadline. Pages of LIfe: Working Elderly in Hong (a student documentary) lamwoomedia 2011-10-04 | http://cmestudio.wordpress.com This student-produced documentary, which was entered in Wiseman Education's ThinkSeries Competition (Junior Secondary Division), is about two elderly men, Mr. Wong (a hawker) and Mr. Ng (a shopkeeper) who, in their devotion to their work, show faith in themselves. In this video, the first part of our series entitled Dreamers, we look at CM (a professional session musician, arranger and producer, who also goes by the name of CMgroovy) and Chan Yat-kuen (an artist and retired teacher). This is a 2nd version of the same video (we have fixed some mistakes with the titles, editing and color corrections). We also conducted interviews in the street with passers-by and learned how varied our hopes and aspirations can be. These street interviews were partly inspired by the "Fifty People One Question" series of videos. http://fiftypeopleonequestion.com Though, this is a documentary, we decided against using narration. It is up to you, the viewer to interpret the message of the video. The two main interviewees took two very different approaches to achieving their dreams, but can we say that one approach is better than the other? The still images and some video shots were taken with a Canon EOS 500 digital camera. The video was edited using Premiere Pro. After Effects was used for the circular mask in Part 1. Sony Vegas was used to create the old / low quality film effects for the intro part.

This video is part of a multi-media project called Dreamers.In this project, we look at the hopes and aspiration of Hong Kong people.
