Memphis nearly scored the game's first run in the top of the second when Pete Kozma hit a line drive to left field with Stephen Piscotty at third, but Yeison Asencio caught the ball near his ankles and threw it to catcher Adam Moore, who tagged Piscotty for a double play. The Chihuahuas turned four double plays Saturday, all in the first five innings of the game.
Kozma's sacrifice fly in the eighth broke the scoreless standstill. The Chihuahuas tied the game a half inning later when Jeff Francoeur hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to score rehabbing outfielder Cameron Maybin. The Redbirds plated the go-ahead run on Scott Moore's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth.

"It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to host one of Minor League Baseball's jewel events, and to do it on a national stage," said president of MountainStar Sports Group, Alan Ledford. "We look forward to welcoming the Triple-A Baseball community to El Paso and Southwest University Park, and to providing our fans with an opportunity to see the very best players and teams from the 2015 season."
The Honorable Oscar Leeser, Mayor of El Paso said, "With last week's recognition as the best ballpark in the nation, Southwest University Park will be the perfect venue for the championship game. The game will be a great opportunity to show off El Paso's wonderful hospitality. It will also be a great chance to showcase our community to the entire nation."
The game features the champions of the Pacific Coast League and the International League in a winner-take-all game.
Joining Ledford and Leeser in the announcement were Pat O'Conner, president and CEO of Minor League Baseball; Branch Rickey, president of the Pacific Coast League; Randy Mobley, president of the International League; and Brad Taylor, general manager of the El Paso Chihuahuas.
"Minor League Baseball views the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game as a jewel event for all of Minor League Baseball and a fitting conclusion to the Minor League season," O'Conner said. "The level of excitement, intensity and competition of this championship game is indicative of its importance to the players as well. The 2015 game should be an especially exciting event as we tap into the unbridled passion and enthusiasm of the El Paso fans and community."
The game will be in its 10th year when the Chihuahuas host in 2015. The Pacific Coast League leads the series 5-3, with this year's contest to be played on September 16th in Charlotte, N.C. at the new BB&T Ballpark. Four teams (Sacramento, Columbus, Durham and Omaha) have played in the championship game twice with Sacramento and Columbus winning in each of their appearances.
Previously known as the Bricktown Showdown, the game was held annually at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Houston Astros). In 2011, it was decided that the game would be hosted in a different Triple-A city each year. Albuquerque, N.M. (2011), Durham, N.C. (2012), and Allentown, Pa. (2013) have hosted the game.
Chihuahuas Season Seat Holders will be given the first opportunity to purchase tickets. Individual game tickets will made available to the general public at a later date.

The El Paso Chihuahuas took a six-run lead early and never looked back in their 8-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Tuesday at Southwest University Park. It was the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
The Chihuahuas scored three runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Cody Decker and a two-run home run by Adam Moore. One inning later, Alex Castellanos reached base and brought home a run on a misplayed ground ball by Nashville shortstop Hector Gomez. El Paso continued scoring in the third when Taylor Lindsey hit a high home run on top of right field's Big Dog House, his first homer at Southwest University Park since being traded from the Angels in late July.
Tyler Greene went 0-for-5 with an RBI for El Paso, ending his 14-game hitting streak, which is the longest streak to date by a Chihuahuas player. Chris Rearick pitched two scoreless innings to close the game and has allowed only one earned run in his last 13 outings. The Chihuahuas have won five of their last seven games.
