He is best known as the creator of the manga Akira and its animated film adaptation.In 1979, after writing multiple short-stories for the magazine Action, Otomo created his first science-fiction work, titled Fireball. Although the manga was never completed, it is regarded as a milestone in Otomo's career as it contained many of the same themes he would explore in his later. In 1982, Otomo made his anime debut, working as character designer for the animated film Harmagedon. The next year, Otomo began work on a manga which would become his most acclaimed and famous work: Akira. It took eight years to complete and would eventually culminate in 2000 pages of artwork. While the serialization of Akira was taking place, Otomo decided to animate it into a feature film, although the manga was yet to be finished. In 1988, the animated film Akira was released.Otomo became the fourth manga artist ever inducted into the American Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2012, and was awarded the Purple Medal of Honor from the Japanese government in 2013.

His family fled the country to France in 1960, where Enki learns French and discovers cinema and comic books. In 1971, he wins a contest organized by the famous comics magazine Pilote with his first story "L'appel des étoiles". It's published in Pilote and later re-released under the title "Le bol maudit", and it allows Enki Bilal to start working for the magazine by drawing politicians. He then meets Pierre Christin (at the time scenarist of "Valérian" for Pilote) and starts his collaboration with him in 1975 with "La croisières des oubliés". In 1979, they release "Les Phalanges de l'Ordre Noir", which receives great critics and a Prix RTL. Dan OBannon interview (2007) Mimi Cortazar 2022-01-30 | From Moebius Redux documentary interviews.Dan O'Bannon was inspired at an early age by EC Comics like Tales from the Crypt and old horror films that he saw in St. Louis. He even wrote a few stories for Heavy Metal magazine, The Long Tomorrow with Jean Giraud Moebius. (which also showed up in the film).O'Bannon got his start when he and John Carpenter collaborated on the cult sci-fi film Dark Star (1974). After a failed attempt to make "Dune" with bizarre surrealist Alejandro Jodorowsky in Europe, O'Bannon returned to the US and began work on "Star Beast" (later retitled Alien (1979)) with Ronald Shusett (with whom he later worked again on Dead & Buried (1981)). He continued working in the Sci-fi/Horror genre mostly as a script doctor, but his directorial debut, The Return of the Living Dead (1985) is known as one of the best zombie movies ever made (and as of this writing two sequels with another in production). Lately O'Bannon has been appearing in a lot of DVD documentaries discussing his work and his influences. It is also worth noting that all of his films have interesting psychological interpretations. He has a tendency to appear in bow ties.
Jules Radilović (1928 - 2022) The departure of one of the most important comic book authors. Mimi Cortazar 2022-01-27 | Jules or Julio, Radilovic, who uses the pseudonym Jules, was born in the Slovanian city of Maribor, but has lived in Zagreb - Croatia since 1939. He began his career in 1952, making the comic 'Neznanac' for Horizontov Zabavnik. A couple of years later, he began working for the German market, where he teamed up with writer Zvonimir Furtiner to make a series about inventions and discoveries ('Izumi i Otkrica') for Kunterbunt, a publication by Rolf Kauka. Jules and Furtiner also created the historical comic 'Kroz Minula Stoljeca', that ran in the Yugoslavian magazine Plavi Vjesnik until 1959.In the early 1960s, Jules illustrated four episodes of 'Kapetan Lesi', a series based on a Yugoslav movie about an Albanian war hero. In 1962, he adapted the Edgar Wallace novel 'Sanders of Africa' to comics, again in cooperation with Furtinger. The Radilovic-Furtinger tandem also started the detective parody 'Herlock Sholmes', that ran successfully in magazines like Plavi Vjaesnik until 1972.Radilovic joined the Strip Features Syndicate through which he worked on series like 'Baca Izvidjac', 'Africke Pustolovine' and 'Jaimee McPheeters', published in magazines like Plavi Vjesnik and Studio (scripts by Furtinger or Norbert Neugebauer).
