The location is the Nansoq Organic Village near Skardu maps.app.goo.gl/65AnmUJURfgbPmuBA. The restaurant and organic honey store is the Nangsoq Organic Restaurant.
Nansoq, often recognized as the first organic village in the region, particularly in the Skardu region, embodies a living testament to traditional Balti culture and sustainable living practices. While specific historical founding dates for Nansoq as an "organic village" are not well-documented, its significance has grown in modern times due to its preservation of an organic lifestyle, which includes traditional farming methods and living off the land with minimal modern intervention.
This village, located near the Kharpocho Fort, has attracted the attention of global figures like Prince Charles, highlighting its unique status.
The lifestyle here reflects centuries-old traditions, showcasing how communities have lived in harmony with nature. It maintains an organic way of life that has become an exemplar for sustainable and eco-friendly living in contemporary discussions.
Skardu is a picturesque town renowned for its stunning landscapes and role as a gateway to some of the world's highest peaks, including K2. Situated at around 2,228 meters (7,310 feet), Skardu lies within the Karakoram mountain range and is surrounded by towering mountains, pristine lakes, and vast cold deserts.
The town serves as a crucial base for trekkers and mountaineers heading toward the peaks of the Karakoram and the Himalayas. Places like Shangrila Lake, Satpara Lake, and the majestic Deosai Plains highlight Skardu's natural beauty.
Historically, it was an important stop along the ancient Silk Road, contributing to its rich cultural tapestry.
Despite the rugged and challenging terrain, Skardu's breathtaking scenery and warm, welcoming people make it a must-visit destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.
What is the LoC?
The Line of Control (LoC) is a military control line between the Indian and Pakistani controlled parts of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. It's a demarcation that separates the territories under the control of the two countries, established after multiple conflicts.

Have you ever been somewhere so beautiful?
Don't miss my last film, where I ride through the stunning Hunza valley and to the highest border in the world - The Gateway to China. youtu.be/LNgp16FXtcc.
The Gilgit-Skardu road is considered one of the most dangerous in the world due to its extreme terrain, with steep cliffs, narrow passes, and unstable conditions prone to landslides and rockfalls.
Poor road infrastructure, including gravel sections and potholes, adds to the challenge, especially during harsh weather like heavy rain or snow, which can cause slippery surfaces and low visibility.
The road’s remoteness means few services or emergency support are available, and frequent heavy traffic from trucks and buses on narrow, winding sections further heightens the risk of accidents, making the journey treacherous.
The Gilgit-Skardu road underwent a significant renovation in recent years, significantly improving safety and accessibility.
The renovation included widening the road, paving previously gravel sections, and reinforcing areas prone to landslides with protective barriers. Bridges were also repaired or replaced, and drainage systems were improved to handle rainwater and prevent flooding.
These upgrades have significantly reduced travel time and enhanced the overall experience for travellers, allowing for smoother and safer journeys.
However, despite these improvements, the road still retains some inherent risks due to the challenging terrain and unpredictable weather, meaning drivers must remain cautious.
The renovation has also boosted tourism and trade in the region, making Skardu more accessible to visitors and helping to connect the local communities more effectively.

Try Kamal's samosas at the Bangladeshi Samosa Center in Abbottabad, Pakistan, maps.app.goo.gl/4PB5ihU3WXvr8XU28.
A samosa is a famous savoury pastry found in Indian cuisine and across various cultures in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. It consists of a triangular or tetrahedral-shaped dough shell, typically made from maida (a type of fine flour) or whole wheat flour, stuffed with a filling that can include spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, ground meat (like lamb, beef, or chicken), or even cheese.
The filling is usually flavoured with spices such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilli powder, and garam masala. After stuffing, the samosa is sealed and deep-fried until it achieves a crispy, golden-brown exterior. It's often served with chutney, like mint, coriander, or tamarind, and is enjoyed as a snack or appetizer.

Location is Nagar, on the Karakoram Highway.
Yak meat consumption, while not as widespread as beef, offers a unique culinary and nutritional profile that's gaining attention globally. Known for its lower fat content and higher levels of beneficial nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, yak meat presents a healthier red meat option than traditional beef.
With its slightly sweeter and richer flavour, this lean meat is becoming popular among health-conscious consumers and those looking for sustainable meat alternatives.
In regions where yaks are native, like the Himalayas, yak meat has been a dietary staple, valued for its taste and efficiency in terms of environmental impact, as yaks require less forage than cattle.
However, yak meat is limited in availability outside these areas. Due to its exotic status and the challenges in its distribution, it often commands a premium.
Despite this, its consumption is slowly growing, driven by interest in diverse meats and their health benefits.
Yak Grill is located near Gulmit on the Karakoram Highway, maps.app.goo.gl/Gb4gvdEj4xpHMeyE7.

Ganish Village, located in the Hunza District, is renowned for several things:
Historical Significance: Ganish is considered one of the oldest settlements in the Hunza Valley, often cited as the first settlement along the ancient Silk Road in this region. This historical importance is reflected in its architecture and cultural heritage.
Architectural Heritage: The village is famous for its ancient watchtowers, traditional mosques, and religious centres. Notably, the wood carving work in the Imambargah of Ganish is celebrated for its beauty. The village also includes structures like the Ali Gohar House, which showcases the living heritage of the area.
Cultural and Religious Heritage: Ganish has been a melting pot of cultures due to its position on the Silk Road, leading to a rich tapestry of traditions. The village has ancient mosques built by leading families when Islam spread in the region, indicating its religious significance. The majority of its inhabitants follow the Twelver branch of Shia Islam, contributing to its unique cultural practices.
Educational Institutions: Ganish hosts several educational institutions like FG Boys Middle School and Aga Khan Diamond School, reflecting its commitment to education, which is a broader characteristic of the Hunza Valley known for its high literacy rates.
UNESCO Recognition: Ganish Village's restoration efforts, particularly its historic structures, have been recognized with a UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award. This recognition highlights its value not just as a historical site but as a model for preservation and conservation.
Natural Beauty and Strategic Location: Situated along the Karakoram Highway, Ganish offers stunning views and is strategically located near significant natural landmarks and historical sites within Hunza, making it a point of interest for travellers and historians alike.
Community and Lifestyle: Despite its historical and touristic value, Ganish remains a living village, not just a museum of the past. This aspect is highlighted by ongoing community life, including new constructions like the Imamia complex, showing that Ganish is a village where tradition meets modernity.
Ganish Village stands out for its blend of history, architecture, cultural richness, and its role as a living testament to the ancient Silk Road's influence on local life and heritage.

I learnt a lot about hospitality, both Mehmaan Nawazi (hospitality) and Atithi Devo Bhava (the guest is equivalent to God). Hospitality is different where I'm from! I hope I can be more like these kind people in the video.

To avoid religious protests/meetings, known as "Jalsas," as a foreigner, it's essential to stay informed about local religious events and news.
Avoid areas known for religious gatherings or protests, especially in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
Keep a low profile by dressing modestly, respecting local customs, and staying connected with local friends and hotel staff who can provide updates on any emerging situations.
It's also wise to monitor local news and social media channels for announcements regarding Jalsas or potential unrest and, if possible, plan travel routes and accommodations to avoid areas where these events are likely to occur.

*So what happened?*
While this is intimidating for foreign tourists, this young man didn't have bad intentions.
After I stopped, donated, and explored what was happening at the religious school, you can see why he thought I might be interested in joining.
But while this fellow was harmless, later that day, in Naran, a local butcher tried more forcefully to convert me!
My advice is to be cautious in remote areas of Pakistan and avoid being overly curious like me. If someone does try to convert you, it's best to say you don't understand and politely leave. Other travellers have told me they say they're Muslim to avoid this altogether.
*What are the children doing inside?*
That's a Madrasa (Islamic school), and they're learning the Quran and Arabic. They also teach non-Islamic subjects (such as logic, philosophy, and maths), enabling students to understand the religious curriculum.
Some are full-time students, others are part-time.
Graduates commonly go on to become Imams (religious leaders), scholars, or teachers in madrasas, and some go into business or take jobs.
You can read more about Madrasas on Wikipedia.

A typical Pakistani breakfast, known as nashta, is a hearty and flavorful meal that reflects the country's rich culinary traditions.
It often includes paratha, a flaky, buttery flatbread served with various accompaniments, such as achaar (pickle) and yoghurt.
Eggs are a staple, whether boiled, fried, or made into a spicy masala omelette.
In many households, chana (spiced chickpeas) or nihari (slow-cooked meat stew) is enjoyed, especially on weekends or special occasions.
Halwa puri is a popular street food breakfast consisting of deep-fried bread (puri) served with sweet semolina pudding (halwa) and spicy chickpea curry. This is often paired with a hot cup of chai (tea) brewed with milk and sugar, sometimes spiced with cardamom or cinnamon.
The combination of savoury, sweet, and spicy flavours makes Pakistani breakfast a diverse and satisfying start to the day.
The location is Himalayan Healthy Foods, Kholian, maps.app.goo.gl/SzQDZZmydDAFPgwt6.

Zenith Irfan, known as Pakistan's "motorcycle girl," embarked on a journey that broke barriers and defied societal norms by becoming the first Pakistani woman to solo ride a motorcycle across the country.
Inspired by her late father's dream of travelling the world on a motorcycle, she took up the challenge to fulfil his unfulfilled dream.
In 2015, Zenith began her adventure, travelling across Pakistan, including the challenging terrains of mountainous regions.
Her journey not only symbolized freedom and empowerment for women but also challenged traditional gender roles in Pakistan
Zenith's story has since inspired countless others, highlighting the importance of courage and determination in the face of adversity.
@zenithirfan features in the 2018 film Motorcycle Girl, which stars Sohai Ali Abro. Watch it now youtu.be/HH65IBdFg5c.

Along the way, I visited the notorious Pakistani city of Abbottabad, where Bin Laden was discovered, and Balakot, the site of India's dramatic surgical strike.
Together, we'll explore the breathtaking, rugged beauty of the disputed Kashmir region, meet incredibly warm locals, enjoy delicious food, and take in the stunning scenery. This is The Impossible Journey.
This travel film captures the physical challenges of my daring ride and the unforgettable experiences and awe-inspiring moments I encountered along the way.
Clarification: Since India's political map update in 2019, this region is now officially referred to in India as Ladakh. However, it is still commonly known in India as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). For their map, refer to the Survey of India's website.
Disclaimer: This video is a personal travel documentary and does not take a political stance on the Kashmir dispute. Cow dung cakes hold significant importance in India due to their cultural, economic, and environmental benefits.
They are used in Hindu religious ceremonies and traditional practices, symbolising purification and protection.
Economically, they provide a vital source of income for rural households and serve as an affordable, sustainable fuel alternative, reducing reliance on firewood and preventing deforestation.
Environmentally, they help manage agricultural waste and enhance soil fertility as natural fertilisers.
Despite some health concerns related to smoke, traditional stove designs can mitigate these effects.
Thus, cow dung cakes play a crucial role in sustaining rural livelihoods, supporting traditional practices, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Indian dosa is a versatile and popular South Indian dish known for its thin, crispy texture and savoury flavour.
Made from a fermented batter of rice and black gram (urad dal), dosas are traditionally served hot, often accompanied by coconut chutney, sambar (a lentil-based vegetable stew), and sometimes other chutneys.
This iconic dish is enjoyed across India and globally, with variations that include fillings like spiced potatoes in the classic masala dosa, paneer, cheese, or even fusion ingredients.
The fermentation process enhances the nutritional value by increasing the bioavailability of vitamins and minerals. It imparts a unique tanginess to the batter, making dosa a beloved staple in South Indian cuisine and a favourite among food enthusiasts worldwide.
Location is Umesh Refreshments, Indira Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
