The You're Not Stupid Guide is presented in a way to show that you can do this yourself. The information has been retained from memory from someone that's done it many times. It's meant to poke fun at people who go online and ask questions showing they really haven't bothered even doing a search on the topic. It's poking fun at them, but it's not meant to be condescending. I'm saying you can do this yourself, watch me, and if you still don't get it, look it up, because it can be done... I believe in you.

PC To Amiga Transfers Ep. 1x2 of The You're Not Stupid Guide.Ghostbusters - Commodore 64 - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972024-06-08 | Rising from the wreckage of the Video Game Crash of 1983, Ghostbusters was among the first licenced titles to follow the infamous E.T., unlike that one this was universally praised for its translation of one of the biggest films of 1984, at least here in its original Commodore 64 release. Designed by David Crane, founder of Activision and creator of Pitfall, Little Computer People, and countless others, it was not only important in terms of licencing at that time, but it was among the first to show off what the 64 could do, as most games on the system prior to this had been ports. We'll play and win, discuss my thoughts, and read from any magazine materials I could get my hands on from back in the day.
All 64 gameplay recorded and played by me off my NTSC Commodore 64 (as designed in America) with the camera pointed at a CRT television. Comparison footage for the NES and Master System are also using original hardware off a CRT. Comparisons of the Atari 800, Atari 2600, and Apple II were captured using emulation but recorded off a CRT television. Screenshots of the other versions were taken from Moby. Full manually written subtitles available.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 10x2, Ghostbusters, Commodore 64Menace - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972024-03-08 | Menace, an Amiga original, was the first game from DMA Design, which would later create among others; Shadow of the Beast, Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto, and rebrand into Rockstar. Critical darlings from the start, this was a well reviewed game at the time, making multiple best of the year lists and apparently selling 20,000 copies. I'll be facing off against a few of those reviewers here, as I feel they're missing a key insight into this game, mainly that none of them actually won it, I have. The brutal nature of finishing makes it difficult to recommend, though it felt great to achieve. We'll review the reviewers, discuss what actually makes sense to discuss, show off the pain, as well as comparisons with all other versions.
All gameplay recorded and played by me, captured from a camera pointed at CRT TV's. This game played via WHDLoad on my Amiga, due to obnoxious cracks I didn't want to show. Genuine hardware used for all Amiga, Commodore 64, and DOS video featured here. Emulation was used for the Atari ST comparison (STeem), played on my Windows98 PC while hooked up to a CRT TV. Picture of the unreleased Atari 800 version taken from the web. Manual full captions available.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 10x1 - Menace, Commodore AmigaOut Of This World - Amiga - A Shot97 Lets PlayShot972023-12-09 | 9 years of youtube obscurity (because if you have to do what the others do to get noticed, it'll never be worth your integrity), and for that anniversary (December 12th, 2016) a mostly full let's play of the Amiga original Out of this World/Another World. Minor edits for sanity, most deaths included. Quite the stunner graphically when it first appeared, polygon graphics in a platforming game. Ported to many systems, here in its original Amiga glory, which actually has one less level than other versions, along with a few other minor differences. Voice/video recorded live using my actual Amiga 500 hardware off a composite CRT monitor. Manual captions included.

A Shot97 Let's Play - Ep. 8x1 - Out of this World, Commodore AmigaKnights Of The Sky - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972023-11-11 | Knights of the Sky was among the first games to treat World War One seriously as a flight simulator, along with Wings, Blue Max, and Dynamix's Red Baron. A bit overshadowed on the Amiga by Wings, as well as DOS by Red Baron, perhaps it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Leaning more toward simulation than Wings, yet adding a bit of that cinematic flair, we'll get into the Amiga port of Knights of the Sky, arguably best in this version. We'll read from the manual, discuss the good and bad, compare with other versions, and do some heavy reviewing of the old school magazine reviewers.
Main gameplay footage recorded and played off my Amiga 500, in its intended NTSC mode, 60hz, 4:3 aspect ratio, direct off a CRT composite television. Additional Amiga footage from an RGB CRT monitor. DOS footage collected from actual hardware, direct off an RGB CRT monitor. Atari STe and PC-98 pics borrowed from Moby. This is the first of my videos to include full manual closed captioning painstakingly done by me. A little nod to Sharka, watching her videos on this made me excited to cover it myself: youtu.be/5UWyoGLe5DA?si=rQcDMuEbr8V0UA3N

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 9x2 - Knights of the Sky, Commodore Amiga2-Player C64 Games With KilrGamer - A Shot97 Lets PlayShot972023-08-17 | Just messing with some 2-player Commodore 64 games with The KilrGamer, on my actual hardware. We played Beamrider, Omega Race, Mario Bros., and Spy VS Spy. We also took a flight in Flight Simulator II, but that one's being saved for his channel. Recorded from actual C64 NTSC hardware off a CRT screen. The setup wasn't ideal, pretty much anytime we laugh the camera shakes a bit, but I think I made it look alright.

Inspiring countless RPGs, Action RPGs, and JRPGs as well. Here a legend was born. Originally released in 1981 for the Apple II, we're covering the Commodore 64 re-release from early 1987. We'll get into my personal history with these games, read from magazine reviews of the time period, get into the infamous Scorpia some more, read from the docs, and compare the various versions. All video footage shot with real hardware on a CRT television (C64), and CRT monitor (DOS), other versions were shown with collected screenshots.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 9x1 - Ultima 1, Commodore 64Jumpman - Commodore 64 - Gaming Memories and ReviewShot972022-12-24 | Taking arcade platformers to the next level with 30 levels, each with their own unique twist along with an added bullet hell and puzzle element. You wouldn't find it in the arcades next to Donkey Kong, as Jumpman was among the first to prove that you didn't have to settle for substandard ports or cheap clones at home. Upon completing those 30 (33 in a sense) well crafted levels you were then rewarded with a cutscene and a highscore which saved to disk, you have won a game.
It didn't simply start the game over with ever increasing speed until you died, you could actually win this one! Jumpman took a leap forward and in this review we'll go over not only my thoughts, but others from back in the day via extensive magazine research. We'll also get a little personal as we take on my father and uncle in a high score challenge spanning nearly 40 years!
- All footage shot using real hardware (C64 and DOS) along with CRT monitors, shown in their designed 4:3 aspect ratio in NTSC mode.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 8x5, Jumpman, Commodore 64The X-Files Game - PC Windows 98 - A Shot97 Lets PlayShot972022-10-30 | For Halloween I thought it would be nice to return to a game I reviewed in my first year of making videos, The X-Files, here as a mostly full let's play (minor cuts for personal sanity). It's all off the cuff with gameplay and voice recorded live, played off actual PC Windows98 hardware, like we're on the couch playing the game! Being both an adventure game and interactive movie this makes for a rather long video since I refuse to split them up, but inside of the video there are multiple time stamped parts for breaks in watching.
A Shot97 Let's Play - Ep. 6x1 - The X-Files Game, PC Windows 98The Faery Tale Adventure - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972022-08-17 | Wondrous exploration in a non-linear open world setting, an action RPG before that genre was even a thing. Beautiful grasslands, farms, forests, deserts, mountains and more, three brothers set out to save the land of Holm. Gameplay that resembles Zelda, graphics which stand with Ultima VII years later, this one is an Amiga original! An early one at that, and it deserves to be talked about a lot more than it has been. I read from the manual, show off reviews from the era along with best of placements, and show comparisons with every other version of the game.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 8x4 - The Faery Tale Adventure, Commodore AmigaDeath Knights Of Krynn - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972022-05-29 | Second in the DragonLance line of officially licenced AD&D Gold Box games, 5th overall in the series, Death Knights of Krynn is the "spookiest" of all the Gold Box games. The undead are your primary enemies, shown in a wealth of forms along with 3 undead main villains. The connection with the previous game Champions of Krynn runs deep, making this something special in terms of the sequels. It was the first Gold Box game I fell in love with long ago, shown here on actual Amiga hardware in its intended NTSC mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 8x3 - Death Knights of Krynn, Commodore AmigaA-Train - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972022-02-11 | A rich strategy game of deep thought, A-Train combines equally railroad building, city building, and financing. While seemingly a perfect fit for its publisher Maxis, it nevertheless goes much deeper than the "software toy's" they were known for, being developed in Japan by Artdink as the third title in a line which continues to this day. We'll bring you memories of my own, and memories from many reviewers from back in the day. The 140 page manual will be discussed and read from, and both Wikipedia and modern YouTubers corrected as we show off actual evidence of this titles success. In-depth doesn't cut it. All video from actual NTSC Amiga hardware with a 4:3 aspect ratio, as this game was designed to be shown.

I got cursed with the Genesis version growing up, which tainted my opinion for many years. In this review you'll see me grow to liking the game, although unable to not notice certain flaws. It's a much more nuanced opinion than many, but I hope it's worth seeing. We'll show off the box, manual, American and European magazine reviews, and comparisons with the Commodore 64 and Sega Genesis. This is originally a PAL game which I'm playing in NTSC mode for the faster speed, though I did stretch my screen to maintain the correct aspect ratio, shown in 4:3 as designed. All video of actual 60hz NTSC hardware, camera on a CRT screen.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 8x1 - Turrican, Commodore AmigaEarl Weaver Baseball - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972021-10-09 | An Amiga original which magazines compared to brand new games over a decade later as THE definitive baseball game. It is intellectually as well as personally a definitive Amiga title, and I sure do wish those who loved the Amiga would give it the respect it deserves. We'll read from the manual, show off a good 10 reviews from back in the day as well as mentions of it from much later, such as hall of fame placements! We'll get into some memories, compare the game with the DOS port, and a lot more. Shown on actual Amiga hardware with a 4:3 CRT screen in NTSC mode, as designed. On a personal note, this video has been worked on since April of 2019, nearing 3 years.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 7x7 - Earl Weaver Baseball, Commodore AmigaPersian Gulf Inferno - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972021-08-18 | An Amiga original which was one of the first games published by Innerprise, an off shoot of Discovery Software. A side scroller with a mature theme of finding hostages and stopping the threat of a nuclear weapon, I always found it to be rather unique for the time. We'll be checking out the box, some story, and reviewing the reviewers by reading through some magazines of the era. It was released in Germany as North Sea Inferno, with quite a few differences in gameplay, which I will show off.
*While this game was first released in America, Parsec Software designed it in Denmark. It was designed for PAL mode, but I'm showing it in NTSC as it plays much better there.

The Amiga was the first of a number of late 80's upgrades of Qix to the home market. We'll read from the manual, show off some reviews from when the game was new, discuss strategies, and dive into some memories! Shown on actual Amiga hardware in its designed NTSC mode via a 4:3 CRT monitor.
*Corrections; I noted early ports on the Atari 5200 and Atari 8-bit computer lines, there was also a Commodore 64 port at this time, another port for the C64 came out later which I did mention. - I never discussed the on-screen acronyms CLM and THR, but with a funny clip I left in made it sound like CLM meant calm, referring to how the qix is acting. I believe it means claim, as in how much of the screen has been claimed, while THR is threshold, how much you need to claim to get through the level.

Offering a name change and turn based strategy in an era where it had all but disappeared, Heroes was a smash hit that spawned multiple direct sequels in the 1990's, and it's still being made in one form or another to this day. I'll be reading from the manual, glancing at numerous magazine reviews including a game of the year award from Computer Gaming World, and lots more. We're covering the original DOS release, showing it from actual hardware on a real CRT screen, in its designed 4:3 aspect ratio.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 7x4 - Heroes of Might and Magic A Strategic Quest, MS-DOSHeros Quest / Quest for Glory - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972021-02-22 | Famous for their adventures, Sierra attempts to integrate role playing into the adventure genre with Hero's Quest, later renamed Quest for Glory. While the RPG aspect doesn't quite hold up on its own, the aspects which translated well truly set this game apart as an adventure. Tackling the Amiga conversion here, we shall discuss the complicated relationship Amiga users had with Sierra, but hold firmly that a good game is a good game, and this one is good, even if it could have been better on this machine. We'll read from the manual, cover a number of magazines thoughts from back in the day, and show off some awards like adventure of the year 1989, and 15th most innovative game of all time. Presented here on original Amiga hardware, in its designed NTSC mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
This review in dedication to friends Stygian Phoenix and Brian Davis, true lovers of Sierra and the Amiga. Check out Stygian's playthrough of the VGA remake here: youtu.be/miLtSXv39_0
*Correction; at one point in the video I made reference to Brian Davis' love for Sierra starting with the Amiga version of Space Quest, it was actually the Amiga version of King's Quest.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 7x3 - Hero's Quest, Commodore AmigaNorth & South - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972021-01-12 | A quirky and humorous look at the American Civil War, North & South is a mixed genera game. It combines strategy with action scenes, looking rather nice in the graphics department in this Amiga version. While it can be a bit short, it's an enjoyable ride. In my review I'll be giving you my thoughts, as well as a bit of history lesson on the war which was featured in the manual. I'll be reading from a number of magazine reviews from America and Europe, and even compare the Amiga version with the DOS version. While this game is from France, it was designed first for the Atari ST, and is best seen on the Amiga in NTSC mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio, as seen here.

On the Amiga it showed what the system was capable of, even in the 256 color VGA era, by being one of the few full HAM graphics games, showing all 4,096 colors on screen at once. It did this during the actual gameplay, and it's a stunner. It can be a bit slow to load in those views, but it's worth the wait, and a must experience for true Amiga fans.
We'll talk about the game, read from the manual and box, show off many magazine reviews from back in the day, including this games action game of the year award, and 5th most innovative computer game of all time placement. We'll also show comparisons with the DOS original. The game is being shown off actual Amiga hardware in this games intended NTSC mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Unnecessary Surgery - Ep. 4x1 - My Amiga 500's KeyboardFlight Simulator II - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972020-06-29 | Flight Simulator without the Microsoft! It's not like they had much to do with it anyway! The ground breaking 2nd version of a series still going strong to this very day, shown here on the Commodore Amiga. While it's defined as the 2nd in the line, the Amiga version is really the third generation of the simulation, showing countless improvements over other releases at the time. So much so that the PC releases of 3.0 and 4.0 were based off the Amiga version of II. We'll be showing off numerous magazines from back in the day, comparisons, successes and failures by myself, and we'll take a look at the 200 plus pages of manual and maps! it was a lot of fun putting this together, and it was months of work! Presented in its intended 4:3 aspect ratio from NTSC hardware!

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 6x4 - Flight Simulator II, Commodore AmigaA Shot97 Lets Play - Defender of the Crown - AmigaShot972020-06-16 | Felt like revisiting an Amiga classic which I've already reviewed, but this time taking form of a full let's play. An Amiga original from 1986 featuring some of the best art any computer would ever produce. It was the first Cinemaware title and wished to give you a ticket to the movies, succeeding in that quite surely!
Missy_El had a wonderful blog post describing her encounter with Jim Cuomo, this games muscisian, and I felt it paired well with my review's dedication to head artist Jim Sachs. Check out her excitement as she heard this games music live, and don't forget to download her Amiga music podcast which is linked there as well; http://cassettesandchocolate.blogspot.com/2013/02/i-was-on-ground-floor-of-melbournes.html?m=1

Completely redrawn graphics, some pre-rendered scenes, speech in select areas, a deeper look at our kitty enemies. In my review we'll be sharing some memories, looking at the manual, showing off some reviews from back in the day! - Shown on actual DOS hardware, recorded directly off a 4:3 CRT as designed!

Proudly running Workbench 1.3, this is a guide diving into how you can make 1.3 look its best. My entire icon collection along with several useful programs dealing with icons will be covered here, and you can download them all as well. I hope others can get as much enjoyment as I have from power using on 1.3, though I will mention these can all be used with Workbench 2 and above as well. Happy power using! Make Workbench shine!
Thanks to the wonderful Amiga people who wrote these programs and icons. While I couldn't find the names of those who made the icons, here are the ones who made the programs. Please contact me if you wrote any of these icons and wish to be included here. cio Saulnier author of "MagicWB1.3" Richard Mazzarisi author of "IconTools" programs Preben Nielsen author of "WBplane" programs Jonathan Potter author of "Image-Ed"

Classic is an understatement, and here we have the original in its 1987 cartridge form for the NES. Fantastic music, 8-bit graphical glory, hard as nails but you'll have a blast. In this video review I'll be diving in as someone relatively new to the title, we'll show off some introduction from the manual, read thoughts from the time period featuring several magazines, and I'll even be discussing a game theory that's new (at least to me at this time). Hoping to show both skill along with the pain needed to convey the proper difficulty.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 5x10 - CastleVania, Nintendo Entertainment SystemArkanoid - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972019-10-07 | The 1986 arcade classic first saw its way to the home via the Commodore Amiga in 1987. Graphically at least identical, perhaps with a tiny bit more polish, the sounds arguably better as well, though sadly no paddles. Taking the Breakout concept to such higher levels that the games that came after were called Arkanoid clones instead of Breakout ones. Also one of the first titles I ever remember playing on the Amiga. My review for a classic arcade and Amiga title.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 5x8 - F/A-18 Interceptor, Commodore AmigaMight And Magic IV: Clouds Of Xeen - DOS - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972019-08-07 | Originally released in 1992 for MS-DOS, Might and Magic IV bucked the trend of the day by keeping the combat turn based, and keeping the engine in a beautiful 2D style. It would soon become revolutionary when the fifth game of the franchise came out, combining together to form two and a half games, and this was before Sonic the Hedgehog would do it. My review for the fourth game in the historical Might and Magic role playing franchise.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 5x7 - Might and Magic IV Clouds of Xeen, MS-DOSA Shot97 Lets Play - Who Framed Roger Rabbit - NESShot972019-07-27 | This 1989 NES video game adaption from Rare and LJN, of the academy award winning film Who Framed Roger Rabbit tends to get a lot of hate these days. This was always one of my favorites on the system, however. It's an incredibly unique game for the NES, with flairs of computer adventure games (and we all know console gamers don't like change from platformers) involving puzzles and item collecting, and also featuring one of the most difficult boss battles ever. While I previously reviewed this game (one of the first ones I took on), here I'm doing a (mostly) full let's play (minor edits for my own sanity in watching).

Once in awhile I upload one of these and it tends to kill the channel for awhile since some viewers (and YouTube) don't understand that this is a "retro" channel, not just a computer one. Won't stop me though. This was the first roll of Super 8mm film I ever shot, circa 2004, using my favorite film (now discontinued) Kodachrome, hence the title of the video. In person it looks as good as the day it was developed, and it will continue to look that way for a couple hundred years or so (film is the only proven archival method). Camera used was a Bell and Howell 670/XL camera with Kodachrome 40 movie film.
A Shot97 Super8 Film - KodachromePrince Of Persia - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972019-06-23 | Video game history was made with Prince of Persia. Featuring a truly life like feel in the animation due to a rotoscoping technique, this 1989 Apple II game would get ported to a variety of systems both in its prime as well as quite recently. Here we're taking a look at the 1990 Commodore Amiga port, where along with the DOS version, is probably the most iconic version of this computer designed platformer. This is an American Amiga game, shown here in contrast to most other videos in its original 60hz NTSC mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Designed originally on the Atari ST in 1988, the Amiga port was released the following year with quite a soundtrack upgrade. My review.

Gaming Memories And Review - Ep. 5x3 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nintendo Entertainment SystemSimAnt - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972019-03-17 | The third in the "Sim" line of games, SimAnt would come out in early 1992. Originally released for the Macintosh, receiving ports to DOS, Windows 3.1, the SNES (in a much different form) and the version we're showing off here, the Commodore Amiga. The most "game" of any of the Sim titles, having clear set goals/enemies/a way to win. The Amiga had both hi-res 640x400 and lo-res 320x200 modes, I'm playing in lo-res on real Amiga 500 hardware. Developed for the Amiga in-house by Maxis, this is an American Amiga game, best experienced in NTSC mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

To me it would have to be the game I'd first point anyone unfamiliar with the Amiga toward. Unnecessary Surgery - Ep. 3x2 - Amiga A501 Battery ReplacementDragons Lair - Amiga - Gaming Memories And ReviewShot972018-10-28 | This 1989 conversation of the 1983 arcade game is quite impressive on the Amiga. I'd argue the graphics are better, and just like the original, it has its way of making you want to conquer it. And I did just that, legitimately beating the game, and even showing myself on camera doing just that from start to finish. It's an on-a-rail kind of interactive movie, and as such will not appeal to everyone, but I do feel this game deserves better than its near universal negative reviews from Amiga magazines when it was new.

Retro Goodness - Ep. 4x1 - General Electric 15xB B&W TelevisionAir Hockey Christmas - A 70s Super 8 FilmShot972018-08-14 | Shot around Christmas by my father, with an educated guess of either 1976 or 1977 as the year. He used a Bell And Howell 670/XL camera. For film buffs, the interesting choice of film stock was Kodak Ektachrome color reversal Super 8 film, type G. Type G was marketed as being balanced both for outdoor and indoor lighting, but in reality it was for neither, being balanced for fluorescent lighting, which actually went great for this film.

That story along with my review is here.
