If you get anything like that crossed up on real roads something has gone very wrong, for example you've hit oil. Nissan X-Trail e-Power braking - see description. Random Car Clips - L2SFBC 2024-01-14 | The Nissan X-Trail e-Power is a hybrid car which means it has both an electric motor and petrol engine. The car is always driven by the electric motor but in one of two ways; a battery can supply power to the electric motor, or the petrol engine can generate electricity for the motor, and also to recharge the battery. The car's electronics constantly mix and match the various modes with no need for the driver to worry about what's happening.When the vehicle slows down, its wheels turn the electric motor instead of the electric motor turning the wheels. That means the electric motor becomes a generator which charges the battery - this is known as 'regen', or energy harvesting. Regen slows the car, so there is less need to use the brakes which simply convert the car's energy at speed to heat.The video shows an X-Trail slowing down from 80km/h to 20km/h; once using max regen (ePedal enabled) and once without. You can see a slight heat difference without ePedal. Without ePedal the brakes build up more heat which is simply wasted energy that could be put towards charging the battery, and it also wears the brakes a little more.Regen. It's a good thing.
