Have a good plan of where to put things in your van so you know where you want to run the cables. Always use multistranded flexible cable, protected by double insulation and flexible plastic conduit, especially when installed in the metal structure of the van where they could be easily damaged.

DIY Single Seat Conversion on a Budget! - Van Build Ep14

Greg Virgoe 2023-08-18 | We swap the three seats in our Fiat Ducato for two single seats with swivel bases for free. Luckily, a lovely lady called Amy from South Wales had two single seats in her Citroen Relay that she wanted to swap for our Three Seats. That just meant a long 5-hour drive to South Wales to do the swap.

We changed all the seat belt pre-tensioners over so that each van had its original belt buckles back that way there was no problem with compatibility and no issues with fault codes on either vehicle.
These single seats are actually from a Renault Trafic van, having the swivel seat bases makes fitting them into this van very easy. So if you are looking for an alternative seat maybe look for a Renault or Vauxhall seat instead and make it fit using a swivel base as an adapter.

How to Insulate your Floor on a Budget - Episode 7 of the Van Build Series

Greg Virgoe 2023-04-30 | Fitting the new timber battens and insulation to the floor of our Fiat Ducato Budget Campervan Build. Finishing it with a foil vapour barrier to prevent condensation from forming under the floor.

We are using locally sourced timber roofing battens, fixed to the floor using Sikalfex 522 adhesive to form a grid that will support the new plywood floor and the campervan furniture above.
PIR rigid insulation boards are cut and inserted between the timber battens to provide the best thermal insulation layer to the floor. N2 part 1 - WE START SOMETHING NEW IN PORTUGAL

From Chaves, in the North, close to the Spanish border, to Faro in the Algarve on the Atlantic Coast, the longest road in Portugal is 739 kilometres long.

Is it Cheaper to Drive to Spain or go by Ferry? We have the Costs.

Greg Virgoe 2022-11-04 | We continue our journey to Portugal driving down the remainder of France to the Spanish border. We work out how much it has cost us for a week of travelling and compare that to what it would cost to travel by Ferry.

A scenic drive through France on our way to Portugal - Euro Tour IV

Greg Virgoe 2022-10-18 | This is the Start of our 4th Tour around Europe, This time we head back to Portugal to explore new places and meet up with old friends. In this video, we take a scenic drive through France on our way to the Spanish Border.
We chose to drive down through France and Spain rather than get the ferry to Santander so that we could explore some new places along the way. So far we have found some lovely peaceful places to stop over.
We stop in a couple of our favourite places to start with one near to Calais and one in Rugles. Then onto a lovely vineyard called Cave Auger which was free to stop over if you didn’t Ned the services. Beautiful kept working farm with full services, wine tasting and lovely views across the vineyard.

There is Moisture Trapped Inside my Vapour Barrier!

Greg Virgoe 2022-06-02 | I calculate how much moisture is trapped inside the vapour barrier when you insulate your van.
There is always some moisture present in the air depending on the conditions, this is referred to as the Relative Humidity and is expressed as a percentage.

For a given temperature and relative humidity, we can determine how much moisture is present by referring to a Psychrometric chart. Using this figure and the volume of the van walls we can easily calculate exactly how much moisture was trapped inside my vapour barrier.

From the results you can see that less than 5ml of water would have been trapped in the walls of the van, not even enough to fill a teaspoon, so it really is nothing to be concerned about.
Even in winter when the relative humidity is 100% the actual moisture content is much less because cold air cannot hold as much water.

There are lots of comments and opinions on the internet regarding the use of vapour barriers but nobody backs up their thoughts with hard facts, evidence or any proof. I can prove that they work and back this up with science and facts. Watch this video too youtu.be/ommqMG7RjXg

Vapour Barrier in a Van - I can Prove they Work.

Greg Virgoe 2022-05-13 | I carry out a real test to show you that a vapour barrier does work and they can completely prevent the formation of condensation.

There are so many different opinions about vapour barriers in steel vans and nobody is proving their point, so I will prove to you that they do work.

The vapour barrier prevents moist air from coming into contact with cold surfaces and totally eradicates any condensation from forming in the first place. If the air cannot get to the cold metal then it cannot condense into water.

It is really easy to make a sealed barrier with foil bubble wrap and foil tape, just make sure to seal all the edges, joints and tape over any holes and service entry points.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Theres a problem with our van.

We have a 2008 Mercedes Sprinter 313 CDI and every 500miles it starts to smoke huge clouds of white smoke. This continues for about 50miles then it stops. Runs perfectly for the next 500miles then starts again. We have logged the mileage on the last few times this has happened and it's regular as clockwork.
The van had a new EGR valve, new Catalytic Converter, and New DPF filter about 10,000 miles ago. The engine is using no oil or water and neither is contaminated. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?

Buying a Used Van - Why is that so difficult right now?

Greg Virgoe 2022-04-10 | Why is it so difficult to buy a van right now? In this video, I explain what's happening to the second-hand van sales market at the moment. Why there are so few vans for sale and why the prices are so high.

There are a few reasons why it's difficult to find a second-hand van right now.
1. The global material shortages of Semiconductors Rubber and Metal resulted in a huge drop in new van registrations for September last year.
Sept 2020 - 52k new vans registered
Sept 2021 - 31.5k new vans registered
A drop of 39.5% so that's nearly half as many new vans available to buy.
This forces fleet owners to hold onto old vans and run them longer thus
reducing the number of used vans on the second-hand market.

2. Due to the pandemic and lockdown, the demand for home delivery has
increased massively and this has led to increased demand for retail-ready
used vans by couriers and logistic companies.

3. The recent rise in Clean Air Zones in cities across the UK. has forced the fleet managers to buy Euro 6 engine vans, even scrambling to pick up the best of what's left on the used van market.

How has this affected used van sales?
1. Trade buyers are now paying 79% (£4,516) more for a comparable used van than they were in June 2019.
2. The price of second-hand vans to the end-user is as much as 60-100% more than 2 years ago.
3. Previously average used fleet vehicles would be 60months old with 70k miles on the clock, now will be 3-4yrs old and over 100k miles and will make up as much as 70% of the used van market.

Then together we travel further north in convoy to visit the most impressive National Park in Croatia.

We are forced to turn back at the Austrian border due to the road being closed and have to travel through north Italy then into Austria crossing a further two borders in just 23mins.

The campsite that we stayed in was one of the best we have visited.

VANLIFE CROATIA - Island Hopping along the Adriatic Coast

From the old town, we travel along the main road up high into the mountains and across to the south coast where we find a secluded cove with turquoise clear water and views that take your breath away. Croatia is just beautiful.

Greg Virgoe 2022-01-30 | In this video, we explore the beautiful scenery of Croatia in our self-built camper van and are forced to camp in the wild. VANLIFE CROATIA - Can you Wild Camp? We find out!

We drive to the most southerly point of Croatia, a slim peninsular of land jutting out into the Adriatic Sea that was a former military fortress projecting the southern coastline but now abandoned.
There are a lot of little roads between the bushes and trees where you can find a secluded parking spot and the views from this location are breathtaking.

We drive back along the scenic coastal road to the capital city Dubrovnik. The old wall city is really worth a visit, the white buildings capped with bright red clay tiles are a sight to see.
We park overnight in the local Hospital, with only a short walk along the coast to the old town.
It cost us 110 kunas to park for 24hrs which was roughly £12 GBP at the time of filming.

At the time of filming (Nov 2021), most of the campsites are closed for the end of the holiday season so it is more acceptable to wild camp as long as you respect others and the local area. We find a wild camp spot in the region of Kućište, surrounded by nature and right by the sea. It used to be a campsite but now disused. You are permitted to park there and its off-road location, surrounded by trees, makes for a very nice place to stay.

We drive the beautiful scenic road right next to the lake all the way down to Sirmione. Just a short trip from Lake Garda heading East to the city of Verona. Im flying over the Alps - Vanlife in Southern Germany

Greg Virgoe 2021-10-30 | We travel all the way down to southern Germany in our Sprinter campervan. Where I take a paragliding flight over the Alps.

But before that, we catch up with good friends Keith and Lisa as they travel back to the UK after travelling Europe. They share some of their experience in the present climate and explain how easy it has been to travel.

The next stop on our trip was the city of Berlin, we stay in a secure motorhome Aire in the city and walk into the centre of Berlin. Taking in the sights of the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie to name a few. How fortunate we are to have our freedom.

We decided to do a huge road trip down to the very bottom of Germany parking at the start of the alps near the Austrian border, To a stunning location right near the Neuschwanstein Castle. I sign up for a tandem paraglide from the top of the mountain and the views were incredible.
Flying with eagles high above the mountains is something I will never forget.

We travel northeast to Lubeck and admire the gothic-style Holsten gate and tall churches.

We travel out of the cities and towns and into the countryside, using the surrounded by nature feature on park4night we find a peaceful car park in the woods for an overnight stop.

After our short lunch stop in Arnhem, we continue north to Giethoorn, a really pretty town built on peat bogs with loads of canals between the houses and everyone gets around by electric boat.

Our last location in the Netherlands was the fort at Bourtange. Well worth a visit with its unique shaped moat and one of the oldest working windmills.

Most of the places we have visited just ask to see your proof of vaccination for covid and you are expected to wear a mask indoors. But other than that it has been very easy to travel from country to country and does feel like normal again. Long may that last.

This will give Archie a nice cool flow of fresh air for those short times when Rob has to leave him in the van. It's essential if you live with pets when travelling.

The key features of the Maxxfan are as follows:-
Obviously, the integrated rain rood, meaning the lid can stay open regardless of the weather.
The lid can be left open whilst driving, the unit has 2 strong lifting arms so the lid won’t flutter or rattle whilst you drive along.
10-speed fan, providing 900 cubic feet per minute on max. This is what gives the Maxxfan superior airflow/cooling over its competitors. That's an incredible 120 air changes per hour in a LWB Van.
The 2-way fan will bring Fresh Air in or Extract stale air out of the camper van.
Ceiling fan mode – the fan can be run whilst the lid is shut, simply press the lid close button on the remote whilst the fan is running. A small amount of air will be brought in from outside in this mode, like a trickle vent.
