Luigi Circuit (Glitch) - 1:03.352 - (MKW WR)
updated
I now have the best times in all current supersliding categories :)
This category is pretty fun, since the initial clip isn't that hard, the superslide entry and the actual supersliding is nice to drive. However, the landing from the clip is fairly precise, the cycles of the goombas and the chain-chomps will get in the way of your path if you let them (both will ruin your run). Also, if you get even a little bit too close to the curbs of the road, you will be ejected (most likely).
The category is called 'No Ultra' because it uses a glitch (supersliding), but it is not an Ultra Shortcut, since it cannot be in the 'No Glitch' category it becomes its own 'No Ultra' category (I did not create this category). Currently the time trial community is considering recognising these 'No Ultra' categories as their own official categories, even if an ultra shortcut has already been performed on the track and is faster (which is the case with this track). I'm hoping that by bringing attention to these categories via these videos, and by hopefully creating some more No Ultra categories that they will obtain their own official status and player base
I doubt I'll come back to this category, unless it gets improved. It can probably go down to a low 23 or maybe even a 22 second lap. I literally bonked a tree and still beat the Flap WR, so its not exactly 'optimised' yet
There is a small chance that this can become its own 3 lap category that beats the no glitch WR, but not the glitch. However, for this to happen there needs to be a fast way to travel up the last hill before the end of the lap
Thanks to everyone for your continued support
Music- Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67: 1. Allegro con brio (Beethoven)
Got the sub 19! I didn't actually think this was going to happen RTA, but it did.
The key here was switching to automatic drift mode, since I was able to build up more External Velocity (EV) throughout the course in comparison to manual, which allowed me to take both the 2nd to last and the last turn at a very high speed. As you can see in the video when I hold hard left, my speed doesn't decrease all too much, also, this allows the sand cut to be taken at 119kmh, which probably saved the most time here
I decided to try automatic in SP after a discussion in the TAS server and got the sub, which surprised me as I'd tried automatic in the past and hadn't gotten faster than a 19.5. This and rMR show why you should always continually try strategies, even if they seem too hard to pull off or if you have no luck with them at first
I dont really have any plans to improve this, I got the sub by a decent margin and I'm ahead of 2nd place by 400ms or so. Obviously if someone improves on this I will return, but I'm more bothered about improving my 3 lap record, which I might return to soon (most likely with automatic)
Thanks for the support from everyone in the time trial server.
Uploading quickly since I just set a new flap WR
A new category has been created! rMR Glitch, feels so strange to say. I cant believe I actually managed to pull this one off, initially I thought the clip was too difficult to pull off even in practice mode with save states, never mind an RTA run. But lo and behold here we are. I'll go through how we got here
This first started back when @EjayB released his LC Supersliding video youtu.be/o_CHJMAj-WU?si=_N63yNFx5ToCbZ5X and with it he released a tutorial and an alignment ghost for rMR for anybody willing to take on a challenge. So with my fondness of weird tech such as supersliding I naturally decided to go for this strategy with the intent of implementing it into an RTA run
At first I had no luck, I was following the instructions to the best of my abilities, but the clip was just too hard. In 30 minutes of spamming the clip I managed to get height off the mushroom twice, and I didn't even get enough height to clear the brick wall. This was demotivating for me, especially considering that the pole clip for Luigi Circuit is kind of easy and I had just done that
I came back to rMR a little while after this, trying to find a new way to clip onto a seam. This was a silly idea since the invisible walls on rMR are ridiculously high, the only realistic spot to clip for an RTA run would therefore be that annoying mushroom that Ejay was sitting at all along. I put in some more effort again, trying to learn this, but yet again I had no luck. This is around the time I started to deny the viability of this glitch ever being pulled off in an RTA setting, I had no luck with it and I'm usually quick to pick up new strategies, especially supersliding, this should be a breeze for me, but it wasn't.
Some hope finally came when someone in the time trial server prompted Ejay to post his 29.5 humanly viable TAS of rMR Glitch youtube.com/watch?v=vNm0YSjyfGg. I had actually seen this before, but never thought to watch the clip inputs, since I already had a document with the steps to pull off the glitch. Anyway, I realised what I was doing wrong, I stuck some tape onto my monitor whilst watching the alignment ghost, and after a few attempts I had found a way to semi-consistently make the clip off the mushroom. The problem now was, the inputs were still incredibly precise, I hadn't managed to land on the seam, and it hurt my hands to hold the joystick down for an extended period of time.
Nevertheless I decided to continue my pursuit of making this glitch viable. I got my first seam landing, then another one, these were both flukes. It wasn't until my 8th seam landing that I finally had a grasp of what I was doing, even then it was still really difficult and I could still go 10 minutes without getting anything promising. I learnt from Japanese player Menon that I could savestate inside of a wall as long as I loaded the state correctly. This allowed me to efficiently practice the superslide entry, after tinkering the inputs I managed to find a way to actually enter the superslide state, I was finally in.
I continued practicing the fast lap and eventually took it to CTGP for real attempts, It took me 2 superslide entries, 3 seam stops and too many clips to count (I didn't count), but I did it! I'm glad I was able to get it in a relatively short amount of time since I won't have as much spare time starting in October.
The Flap itself was very slow, being only 60ms or so ahead of the no glitch flap WR (I've hit Mid 30 laps and one 29.8 lap), but its fine because I don't really care too much about that, I'm just happy I was finally able to innovate a strategy into an RTA run and create a new category for people to play. I may try to improve it if it ends up getting beat by someone else (glitch or no glitch) but this strategy is very hard
The clip requires a perfect alignment, followed by a shroom with a precise 1 frame delay before you wheelie, then you have to flick left the perfect amount and nosedive at the exact right time, then you have to go neutral only a few frames before you land (you have to do this blindly) and then make small enough adjustments to not fall off into the void, and not clip back into the track. THEN enter the superslide state which isn't a piece of cake considering the slope that you're on. But thankfully I managed to get all this on my 2nd entry. I would estimate this to be on a similar skill level as my 3 lap LC Glitch record, but it is more mentally draining since the clip can take up to a minute to align for, just for you to wheelie 1 frame too early/late
I want to thank @EjayB for theorising and creating the alignment ghost which allowed me to pull off this feat. It would not have been possible without him

Nice little improvement of around 300ms. I decided to come back for like an hour of attempts and got this, which is now officially my 5th World record! I don't think I superslid this very well [new terminology I just made up] and I feel it's still very improvable.
Lap 1 is about 50ms from BKS [best known lap] but I think it could've been a lot faster than BKS if I didn't bonk the pipe and the wall on the cut, still decent and like 300ms faster than my previous WR lap 1
Lap 2 was alright, I did this drift on the up hill section right before the shroom, not sure if it saves time but I think it allowed me to go through the off-road faster later on [higher EV] so I think it was worth it. 19.4 laps are pretty good, but I think I can get a lot better, I have before [eg 19.2 in my previous run]
Lap 3 was a 19.3 which is good, similar story to lap 2. I can slide better than that
I started to do 2 drifts at the start of the lap instead of 3 because I feel it is more consistent as you can control your line to the off-road and the shroom better. I also seem to be able to maintain max speed more often with 2 than 3
I will probably come back to this soon, maybe for the 1:05 which would be fun. At the moment I'm working on a really low clip from the initial pole by cancelling my wheelie right before I clip, however this seems to make the clip a lot harder since you have to basically have a perfect alignment to the clip and do very few adjustments. It should save anywhere from 300-400ms which would push me just under 1:06, but I'm not sure if it's worth the investment. Perhaps I should just be trying to improve the lap 1 and lap 2-3 BKS without adding any new strategies
I might also invest some time in learning supersliding for the tracks, such as Mario Circuit and Peach Beach. Mario Circuit looks very doable, but I've had no luck with Peach Beach. We will see if anything develops over the next few weeks

Another improvement! I'm quite happy with this run as it's a big cut from my previous WR [560ms] and I actually drove it well this time. It's also the first sub 1:07 in Luigi Circuit history, on top of this it means this glitch is slowly moving towards its best known splits and so is becoming increasingly more optimised [1:06.017 as of writing] which is nice to see
Run Analysis
Lap 1 was decent but definitely could've been better. If you're wondering why my bike is sliding on the countdown that is because I learned how to do the SwareJonge start slide for fun and so decided that I would implement it into my next PB. It saves basically no time in this category, I didn't even do it very well and I only included it because its funny to watch the wario bike do it [instead of spear] Who knows, it might even scare off my competitors.
The clip wasn't great since I had to nosedive considerably and lost some time there, also I had to nudge slightly right once inside the seam after the clip, combined this lost about 150-200ms, but a 27.8 lap is pretty decent still and everything else in the lap went well
Lap 2 was by far the best lap of this run and is actually my best lap I've hit on CTGP [19.2, very speedy] and the reason its so fast is the cut at the end, I managed to stay at around 110 on average in the off-road which is almost full speed [120] and I'm not even sure how I did it, it must have just been the amount of EV I built up by repeatedly tapping right from the shroom onwards. This lap is actually .015ms away from the BKS and Flap WR set by @flambambam. Would've been wild if I got not only the 3 lap WR but also the Flap WR in the same run, but who cares its 2nd WW for flap anyway and a great lap regardless
Lap 3 was alright [19.5] but the bonk at the start of the lap lost some time [100-150ms estimate], other than that though the lap went really well. The bonk at the cut is purely visual and I don't even think it loses any time since I maintained all my speed. I'm content with a lap like this

I will most likely come back to this category If someone beats this WR or gets close. The point of this WR was to secure my position in an @NMeade video where he covers all the WRs at the end of the year. Should be fun to watch! [assuming he makes one]

Reclaimed this WR after 2 days with a .500ms cut from flams now former WR which can be found here youtu.be/35BUCWtCnnw?si=E19PjEWEmvAumKpV
Lap 1- Good entry and first time a WR has had a no-stop entry! [saves maybe .2 to maybe .4] I was experimenting with the no stop entry and initially thought I would have to wheelie cancel to fit underneath the Luigi banner, turns out I don't have to as I can simply stay in my wheelie, make adjustments and shroom, meaning I just barely don't hit the banner. Quite lucky really and turns out if I shroom just a little earlier I would actually hit the sign and this move would be impossible. All this being said the lap ended up being terrible because on the last cut I hit the wall and lost a lot of speed. It was on track to be probably .2 to .3 faster [so most likely first 1:06] but I got nervous and so played worse
Lap 2- pretty good lap 2 [19.6] and what made it slower than L3 was the slow off-road on the first turn as I didn't get enough external velocity to fly through the off-road so went a little slow, however the rest of the lap was very well driven so really can't complain
Lap 3- really good lap 3 and very clutch. Certainly not perfect as I dropped below 119kmh for a short time after the first turn before the shroom, on top of this the clip on the final cut may have also lost a few ms, the Final Cut was really scary as I literally couldn't see my character since I was so close to the wall, so I had to play purely off experience. Other than that great shroom and 2nd turn and I really cant complain about a 19.4 so I'm happy with that
King Boo is used since handling is the only stat that matters when travelling at max speed in the superslide state. Anyone who has played this category will know that he is by far the easiest character to control, particularly on the Final Cut.
I will continue pushing this category down. My goal is to make it into NMeade's WR video that he usually makes at the end of the year with this strategy. We will see if I continue to play after that

First 1:07! I wasn't expecting this at all. I'd been practicing supersliding for a lot of the day with save states in sp and decided to go for 3-lap attempts, I got nothing and it was nearly the end of the day and for some reason, even though I had a lot other things I should've been doing, I decided to hop back on for 30 minutes of attempts in CTGP, I got a few high clips and then low and behold got this run.
lap 1- Although this is probably my fastest lap 1 I've hit on Wario bike supersliding its still about .500ms off the best known split and would've been really slow if it weren't for the ending cut as I missed the start-up boost [as always], which I estimate loses .2 to .3. I didn't even look at the L1 split as I thought I was way behind flams previous WR and was trying to catch up and therefore focus closely on my gameplay
lap 2- this lap was pretty good and ill settle for any 19 lap, good beginning as I managed to complete the ODM to increase my external velocity and therefore my speed, the 2nd turn could've been tighter but its honestly fine. Sadly the cut bonked at the end as otherwise it could've been a much faster lap, the bonk resulted in a loss of max speed [120 kmh approx for supersliding] but I quickly gained it back through repeatedly tapping right
lap 3- This lap was the fastest of them all, a 19.7 which I'm very happy with, it had a slow start but a fast 2nd turn, followed by a really decent cut which saved the lap. With a good beginning this could've easily been a 19.4 or .5, but as I said im content with it
This is still nowhere near the BKS added together [currently give a high to mid 1:06] but the initial clip into the wall is fairly precise for the perfect landing, followed by a fast superslide entry and not popping out of the superslide state for the entire run makes this record still impressive regardless, plus its the first 1:07 so nobody really cares that the run is not perfect yet.
If I had to guess I would say this record might last longer than a week or two, not many people are playing the 3-lap category as its relatively new, on top of this, since MKWorld has released MKWii has seen less people active in the community, therefore meaning there are less contenders for the WR.
Although flam could get a random improvement as he seems to have better clip consistency than me, he invented the category after all. Also rip to flams record which stood for less than a day
I feel like I could talk about this category for so long, its really fun and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes weird tech and glitches, I don't really like playing glitch categories but since I got the WR they are seeming more appealing than before. Also, this is now my 2nd WR in the game on a different category believe it or not. To think that I hadn't even started grinding for this category till 9 days ago and now have the WR is crazy to me, considering MG took me about 6 months to get. I don't have much else to say, so enjoy the first sub 1:08

I was one of the first players to pick up this category immediately after Ejay posted his video on supersliding, at that time the strategy was actually to enter the flap (fast lap) in the opposite direction and perform a series of drifts while maintaining a high speed, I found this very difficult to pull off even with savestates and so I was kind of waiting for a better strategy to be implemented that is more consistent. This is around when Flambam created a better alignment ghost for the precise clip into the wall and also became the first person to get the Flap glitch WR rotated in the opposite direction to Ejay, which is much faster than what Ejay was doing. So I tried Ejay’s other method that Flambam was doing and it seemed much more intuitive to me, the hardest part being the ODM at the start.
So after a lot of practice I got my first flap that beat the no glitch Flap WR (21.590 by Luke), then my first 20 lap, then my first 19 lap, now this. My best lap with savestates was a 19.4 so I was surprised to get a 19.3 on console, which is harder than practice mode since you don’t have savestates and can’t be as efficient with your time
I actually beat the Flap WR 10 minutes before this run with a 19.5, but that’s now irrelevant considering this run. I plan on continuing my Flap grind and I’m looking for a final time of sub 19, I doubt it’s realistically possible but who knows, an 18.8 was pulled off by flambam with 5 savestates so I have some wiggle room. Also I’m considering 3 lap as it has the potential to beat the no glitch WR which would be monumental to pull off, but it is considerably harder than the Flap category considering you don’t get to slow down and align for the glitch

Thanks Senna for recording this video
I finally got the world record! I feel this was a long time coming as I had many WR paces fail back when the WR was just a 1:37.035 by Tiles. But within a week the record had been lowered down to a 1:36.278 by Flambambam and then a 1.35.539 by Tiles again, at that moment in time my skill level was nowhere near close enough to seriously attempt for the world record and this combined with other life factors meant I stopped grinding as hard for the record until I had more time to put in some serious attempts
I had a somewhat random improvement a few weeks ago to a 1:36.6 and then the next day to a 1:36.5, meaning I was only 1 second away from the record. This gave me some hope as I realised i still had a lot of potential with this track and each run I was getting closer and closer to the record, or at least I thought. In the end I failed 44 World Record-able paces (I counted a WR pace as one which would be a World Record if I got at most a 31.5 L3 as that was and still is very doable, although the large majority of my paces were much faster than this). Notably I had a double 31.7 pace and a 31.8 31.4 pace. Although each fail was frustrating I kept setting personal best laps which were a big motivater to carry on
I managed to get the 2nd 1:35.XXX with my 1:35.7 and improved this to 1:35.552 as seen in this video. This was only 13ms from the world record which was annoying since the run had errors that were easily fixable. Thankfully I finally ended up getting the record, although when I was initially driving the lap 3 I had no idea it would be so fast. I think it was due to my cavern which went over 100kph and I would consider it as a ‘good’ cavern, especially in comparison to my first two laps which were relatively slow. When I landed out of cavern I got no bounces and cleared the gap cut hopless, at that point I stared at the timer and to my surprise the numbers showed 1:35.306. It was very strange since I had been use to just barely missing the WR to some stupid mistake or uncontrollable thing happening to me. But I actually made it this time which made me very happy, especially considering how long it took for me to get to this point
I might take a short break from this track, at least the heavy grinding side of it. Instead I will probably play less of it over the coming months, unless I see that I have lots of potential and if my WR gets taken, which I’m sure it will. There are many contenders that all have the potential to and are likely going to claim the record due to the sheer amount of potential this track has. Most notably BKT holder on this track with the flame runner and former WR holder Alperen who has decided to pick up this category himself, as well as others such as Shane, Tiles, Flambambam and KoolKade, although some of these people have decided to quite rightfully take a break as this track can definitely be exhausting to play.
If you see my record and think this category looks cool, that’s because it is. Parts of it may even look easy, they aren’t. This track is filled with some of the most tech heavy strategies in the game and very often require frame perfect inputs to execute, on top of that it often feels completely out of your control as to whether you land or fall off the track and the speed of your vehicle as well when bouncing off the mushrooms (especially in cavern). I first picked up this track in February and now finally in July I have the record. If you want to seriously try out this track you are going to need to have a lot of dedication, for me, I was dedicated because this category is so unique and looks entirely different to any other no glitch category thanks to flambambam who first implemented this RTA over a year ago now. I wish more people would try out this category as it really can be a lot of fun, especially if you are not a fan of inside drifting bikes and like cool and obscure tech in the game.
In terms of this tracks potential I can reasonably see it going down to a 1:33.XXX. I think a 1:34 will definitely happen at some point in the future, by who? I have no idea. Maybe myself, maybe Alperen, or it could be an entirely new player who picks up the strategies quickly and is able to dominate the track just like tiles (referred to as John pork in this video as he is the former WR holder). Whoever it is it will be great to watch as this track continues to go down and inevitably becomes one of the most absurd world records to watch in the entire game
Finally I’d like to thank the discord community, especially the ODM server for being so supportive to new players who have never time trialed this game seriously, there are lots of genuinely nice people that are happy to help wherever they can. Small improvement of around -250ms from my previous run and to some extent now these runs are looking more satisfying to watch. I can’t say I’m happy with this run since it doesn’t reflect my true potential yet, but it is slowly getting there. 2nd 1:35 time to be set on this leaderboard which further cements my spot at 2nd worldwide.
Lap 1- overall driven well, this lap had a slower start ODM meaning I was .2 behind a “good” pace, but I can’t complain because the rest of the lap went pretty well and managed to get a 31.8 which I will gladly take at this high level
Lap 2- almost a replica of Lap 1 as it looks almost exactly the same and again managed to achieve a 31.8. It lost some time leading up out of start ODM as I had to re-hop since I aligned too far left for the next part of the track, on top of this the gap jump was wide but I think I dealt with it well and again I’m happy with a lap like this (31.8 x3 is 1:35.400 which is WR if set right now where the WR is 1:35.5)
Lap 3- this lap was going so well, great start ODM and good chicken roll (it is called that), I was around 200ms ahead of the WR this point until I missed the spindrift in the cavern which lost soooo much time which is unfortunate. If I had done it properly and finished the run similar to how I did here with the gap jump it likely would have been a low 1:35 to even a 1.34, but I failed. Thankfully I didn’t fall off the track and managed to recover the run due to my experience with this type of fail, I still managed to get the 1:35 but it was frustrating.
Overall this was a good run but as always it can be improved and I will be continuing to attempt for the WR
If you’re interested in picking up and learning this category feel free to message me on discord, my username is @JCChapman on discord and I’ll send you the invite link to the Mushroom Gorge discord server specifically for outside drifting mechanics. It’s a really fun category and I recommend to anyone that likes weird tech such as this.
This run was alright and a sizeable improvement of -500ms from my last PB, now placing me at 2nd Worldwide which I’m relatively happy with. However this run is not without its flaws and can definitely be improved
Lap 1- This was the worst of all 3 laps primarily due to a slow start ODM and bounces landing out of the cave meaning I had to take the gap jump wider than I would’ve liked to. This resulted in a 32 second lap which is relatively slow at a high level on this track now
Lap 2- Barely subbed 32 seconds but was driven decently, the only noteworthy error was the failed spin drift hop on the chicken roll (yes it’s called that) which lost some time (.200ms approx)
Lap 3- Pretty decent lap and again subbed 32 seconds. The angle that I came out of the cave from meant I had to do the regular hop gap, so to make the most out of the situation I decided I would try to counter-drift into the finish line to save anywhere from 50-100ms, however this didn’t go as planned and my drift actually pushed me further away from the finish line. When TAS corrected this just barely subbed 1:36 which is slightly frustrating, but I know this wont be my last run so I’m less bothered.
Overall the run was decent but like all runs on Mushroom Gorge with the new Outside drifting bike strategy it can always be improved and often by a large margin
This run was pretty good, although there are some noticeable mistakes that can be improved. I set it within the first 5 minutes of getting on the game which I wasn’t expecting
Lap 1: all around pretty good, didn’t bounce landing out of cavern so that allowed me to do the tight gap which meant I got a 31.8 lap
Lap 2: This lap was ok, but I almost fell off during the chicken roll L2 (yes it is called that) and thought the run was going to end there, I got a lucky bounce however which allowed me to continue to get a high 32.3. Due to bounces out of cavern I had to do a wide gap jump which lost a considerable amount of time
Lap 3: This lap was also ok and was going very well until a slower than average cavern and a gap jump which lost me a lot of time. This run is the 2nd 1.36 on the leaderboard and around 0.6 seconds ahead of 4th worldwide
The ghost that I’m racing is a 1.36.6 I set the day before this run. Also for those who are wondering I will be attempting for WR eventually
Lap 2 = abhorrent ending
Lap 3 = Mid but bad chicken roll
Thanks etano for recording this video and thanks flambambam for advice on videos
Lap 2 = good
Lap 3 = sell
Thank you dwt for recording this replay
Lap 1 (31.9) was good by my standards but hit a section of grass after start ODM which lost maybe 50/100ms
Lap 2 (33.1) was pretty bad as I failed the spindrift on the bridge after start ODM which lost a lot of time, and I wasn’t able to get hop gap which also lost a lot
Lap 3 (33.4) was also pretty terrible by my standards again due to start ODM, however I did get the chicken roll strat which saved maybe 200/300ms and I was able to get hop gap, which is why this is my new PB
Thanks to @etanoprod on discord for recording this video
