This month, I worked on creating a shop system for Legend Maker. I also added new shop keeps, which take priority over other close-by NPCs. However, you can still use NPCs as shop keeps. I also updated all NPC sprites (as I was using placeholders before). You can get all of this in the most recent build update, shown above.

There have been a lot of changes since my last video. Here are some of the most recent changes.
-Added easy tree autotile which makes creating forests snappy! You just click & drag & the forests will autotile.
-Revamped the HUD from the boring one that was there before.
-Updated the inventory screen, which now shows which items are set to what button, & also plays a sound when selecting an item.
I will be showing off some of the other features that have come to Legend Maker from the previous months in videos - soon, but I wanted to get this video out to my Patreon supporters now (where this video was uploaded early).

Legend Maker just got a huge update! Multiple maps are now supported in your Legend, & you can now travel between them. There are new menus, polished UI, & much more! (full list below). I created this menu sequence for making a new Legend in Legend Maker, & I just felt proud of it. There's no sound effects yet, but they are coming. I'm also working on the map selection screen & I will be adding a way to transition between overworld & dungeon (HOPEFULLY this month). :) It's a huge feature that takes a lot of time & care, so please be understanding. :)

New to this build:
-2 test levels
-Added an Enemies Defeated Trigger which creates a box which you can define an area of enemies that should be defeated in order to trigger an event.
-Added Event Chaining. All events can now be chained together to activate 1 after another.
-Added Reveal Event, which reveals an object that the event is touching when it is triggered. This can be used for many puzzles & is my favorite addition!
-Added Set Lighting Event which, when triggered, allows you to set the lighting based on the number you have set on the event.
-Added Reset Lighting Event. This sets the lighting back to your default room setting.
-Added Lamp Item in Puzzle/Items. This allows the player to see in dark places. It will have further functionality later.
-Added Lamp in Deco/Structures.
-Added Tall Lamp to Deco/Structures
-Added Options for Touch Player Trigger. Now you can hold alt & click it to switch between "trigger once" to "trigger infinitely".
-Added French Keyboard Support. French keyboard had issues with past builds due to some strange Unity issues. These should be fixed with the update to the new Input System.
-Added WASD controls for the face buttons. You can now use M , . & / when using WASD controls.
-Added Early Developer-Mode Xbox Controller Support. At the moment, there is no mouse movement, but you can do almost everything else with the Xbox controller. Select allows you to travel between modes. X & B allow you to place & erase objects. More to come on that in the future.
-All Lamps & lights now have pixeled "cookies" to be more consistent with the pixel art style.
-Events can now be activated while the player is in a doorway.
-Fixed collisions for Grip Claw & arrows.
-Fixed height & depth based glitches.
-Push-able block settings (push times allowed & which directions are allowed)
-Floor switches & floor switch settings (pressure switch or one press). These pressure switches activate events (like the "close trap doors" event). if it is a pressure switch, when released, it will perform the event's opposite, if it has one (for example "close trap doors" opposite is "open trap doors" & vice versa). These should be more fun as I add more events.
-Trap doors - These are controlled with an event. The trap door events can also be triggered with object based triggers like the floor switches mentioned above^
-Attaching items to enemies - Now you can attach items to enemies, which is a long requested feature.
This month in Legend Maker, I added new chest opening animations, a completely new and customizable camera "splitting" system. You can not customize and create your own "rooms" instead of the previous grid system. I also added a Bat enemy that will fly toward you & then return to the ceiling when you're not in range.

This new build adds a slimes and a new boss (Froggaus)! Enemies also now pause while entering a door to make cheap shots less possible, and give you some time to adjust to the new room.

Hey guys. This is a short preview of what I've gotten done for December's build so far. It's not the finished thing, but it's just some of the stuff you can look forward to seeing in this month's build. This build is up right now for $10 patrons (Experimental Builds Role), and the full build will be up later this month for $5 Patrons.
Featured in this video from the upcoming build:
-Sliding Spike Traps (that activate when the player is in their line of sight)
-Floor Spike Traps (that activate on a timer)
-A grid snap is now in place so that when you're placing multiple objects (using shift) objects don't overlap. Each object has a custom grid snap and actions (for example: Trees alternate the grid offset, whereas blocks snap rigidly to each tile near the first block.
-There are now placing & erasing animations and sound effects. Each object has it's own unique sound effect for placing.
-Various bug fixes
Hey guys. I have heard your criticisms on the UI and agree. I upgraded it I think it looks much better, and it's way easier to use. It also looks like much more of it's own thing. I also added in events this month. While they're simple right now, they allow for much more interesting interactions in your game. I also fixed some annoying bugs that people have mentioned with the UI.
I had to take some side jobs to make ends meet this month, so this build was a bit content light, but hopefully the redesign, and the events structure makes up for it.
Legend Maker is a love letter to games like Zelda, Terranigma, Secret of Mana and other action adventure / action RPG games on the SNES. With Legend Maker, you can forge your own sword-slashing adventure game! I update builds monthly, and you can find them in the links above^^^
This month I decided to work on 3 items, the bow and arrow, grip claw, and b*mbs. I created a temporary inventory (when pressing pause). You will be able to have 4 items mapped to buttons at once (not including the sword). I also finished a short death animation, and smoothed out all of the player animations.
A Brief History:
Legend Maker started as a Zelda Maker fan game, before transitioning into an original game. I spent a couple years attempting to finish it in GameMaker, but eventually realized that the engine wasn't suitable for this sort of game. I transitioned into Unity last year and the project has been smooth sailing since. Currently I am working on music, dungeons, events, and NPCs.
When I started Legend Maker, it was my first game project, which is why it has taken so much time to complete, as in the beginning I was inexperienced as a game developer. Now I'm working to finish this huge project. It's a difficult task, but it will be well worth it in the end. Currently, I'm the sole developer of Legend Maker.
Just finished shortening and thickening Runiya so he could fit through the dungeon doors correctly. I also redid the sword animations, since before they were tied to the player. Now they're much smoother. I will now be working on a b*mb item, fire rod, and the bow and arrows. I'll update when I have one or all of those done. Maybe I'll do a stream - making the sprites for them? Let me know if you wanna see that in the comments.

Legend Maker started out as a Zelda Maker fangame, and then I transitioned it into it's own thing, with unique sprites, characters, and enemies. I spent quite a while using GameMaker, before realizing that it was beyond that engine's scope (buggy engine issues, and general bad graphics optimization). So I moved to Unity, and what you're seeing is where the game is at now.

Legend Maker is a Zelda inspired "maker" game.
The code for these doors was quite a bit of work, but I like how they're turning out. All of this is all WIP. Just felt like sharing.
There's even a "smart wall smoothing" system set up! Today was a very productive day. Camera system is already in place (in the last build). Now To make the menu for the dungeon builder, so you can place things like stairs, wall torches, doors, b*mbable walls, and pits.
Also, I've basically got the terrain editor done, considering they're basically the same thing... This should get interesting quick
I just thought that the new pine trees and mushrooms looked pretty aesthetic with the new "partly cloudy" weather effect that I added, so I wanted to share. Hope ya like it! This is coming soon to Legend Maker of course.

There's more to come soon. I'm just releasing this video so you guys have some content to tide you guys over for a week (meaning I should have a new video with many new things next week *sus eyes*.
I had to rework the UI in HD so I could add options for the objects. The player now has an item list that you can toggle (currently just the sword) so the base player will be able to start with whatever items you set. You can also see where the player spawn is at all times, and you can also click a button that takes you directly to the player spawn.
Soon I'll also add a testing tab for the player which will allow you to keep items, stats, and your placement in between testing and going back to dev mode, then back to testing. Basically it will be an autosave while devving. Of course there will also been options to start from the spawn each time, or spawn from the center of the screen.
For the enemies, I will have their stats editable in the menu. This will change every enemy's stats at once, so when you place a new enemy, it will also have the stats that you have set for it.
Decorations will most likely not have any options, because most of them are static, but they may have some combining abilities (similar to how Mario Maker allows you to put items into question blocks and such).
The tileset menu is currently not in this video but will be in the next video and it will most likely be in this month's build.
Save and loading options will soon have a description that will be editable in the game options tab, along with a thumbnail that you will be able to snap and add to your game. This thumbnail will also be editable.
Since I've heard MANY concerns about this look of the game being final or not - YES, this is the final look of the game. I'm very satisfied. I went through a few iterations of the UI in the Unity version, but it was because I was trying to figure out how I could do all that I needed to do in the best way. I went through quite a few iterations, but I can finally say that I'm very happy with this. I can do everything that I need to with this UI. I did a lot of studying to make sure that it's as good as it can be. It will probably get better as I adjust some sizing and what not, but this is the final look of the UI!
**A special message for the long time fans**
Also, if some of you have been away for a while, I had to switch to Unity a while back because of how bad my experience with GameMaker Studio was. It only got worse as I tried to do more with the game and other people started to make bigger worlds. GameMaker's optimization is awful in comparison to Unity, and things were just much glitchier in general. One of the worst things was that, to optimize in GameMaker, you have to deactivate most of your map, while only activating objects in view. But then, you couldn't access the objects outside of your view. This made many functions of large map creation virtually impossible, or VERY GLITCHY. The pressure really ramped up as big streamers, such as Vinny from Vinesauce, played the game and experienced glitch after glitch due to the object deactivation (which also interfered with collision, because objects with collision outside of the view would have to be deactivated). It became basically unusable for the purpose that I needed it for, so I started devving in Unity.
Honestly, I was scared of Unity, years ago, or I would have started in Unity. I was so inexperienced, and I feel as though I've let a lot of people down with how much time I've spent just learning, trying different iterations of graphics, and UI. When I started Legend Maker, I knew so little. I was using mostly GameMaker visual scripting. I had programmed short games before, but they were bare minimum basic games. I started Legend Maker as Zelda Maker, and it was just a for-fun project. I never expected it to blow up like it did.
I've learned so much in gamedev and pixel art. I hope to make it all up to you guys. I owe it to you guys. Some of you have supported for so long. I completely understand your concerns. I've been in your shoes a hundred times with gamedevs. It especially doesn't help that the whole process was public, taking that huge learning process from what could have been at my discretion, into something that was completely public.
However, I'm confident that I can make Legend Maker all that you guys have wanted and even more, and I'm also confident that, since I've been working on it about 10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, you guys shouldn't have to wait until you're a skeleton before the game is finished. No, I don't have a date for that, and I won't, until I'm ready. It's literally just me as of this moment working on the game. But I can assure you that I'm working my butt off to finish what I started in October, years ago, and I finally have the skills to pull it off.
