Highlights: Penguins vs Lightning: Game 7 2011 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-04-28 | Said I would upload it so here it is. It was really painful to have to go back and watch the whole game again, especially so soon. Regardless of the outcome I am proud of this team for how hard they had to fight just to get to this game 7 at home, and how hard they fought in this playoffs. This team had the #4 seed when after Crosby and Malkin went down almost no one gave them a chance to even make the playoffs. It is obviously disappointing and frustrating to think about how good this team could have been if they had stayed healthy. But they now have a long off-season to make sure everyone is 100% and ready to go next year. And so many young guys got experience this year that wouldn't have. Guys like Jefferey, Letestu, Connor with a ton of NHL experience. Even guys like Staal who had to play against the opposing teams top D. Imagine if he assumes the 3rd line center role next year against 5-6th D guys? I just want to say thanks to all my subscribers and folks who watch these playoff videos year after year. I enjoy making them for you guys. Until next year...
Im going to Game 7!!! AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-04-27 | WOW!!!! I was fortunate enough to purchase a ticket to Game 7 tonight through the Student Rush program. It only cost me 40 bucks! Because of this, the highlights for tonight's game will likely be delayed, probably until some time tomorrow morning around 10 or 11 AM. Win or lose, I will post them. I know people always comment on how quickly I get the highlights on youtube, so I apologize for that. I am a graduating senior in college this semester, and so this is likely the last chance I will have to take advantage of the Student Rush (unless they do it again in the next round!). I want to mention the Student Rush program....outside of one time 2 years ago where it got so crazy it was close to a riot, it has been a really, really good program for me. I always get to go to 2-3 games a year I wouldn't otherwise have been able to go to, and for really cheap prices as well. I even went to as many as 9 games during the Cup winning year (the Pens were doing bad that winter and so lots of seats were available). It was always fun to prepare to go and sit outside the Mellon and this year the Consol to wait for hours to get to see the team play. I really can't think of a better way to end my student rush games than with a Game 7 in the playoffs.

Not anymore! Funny, how the announcers were just talking about it. All it takes is one...and that's what makes OT in the playoffs so intense. One shift. One play. One shot. The Tampa Bay St. Louis battled back after being down 2-0. In all seriousness...St. Louis, man what a player. He is about the only one as he is skating down the ice I get really tense. Stamkos is getting chances but isn't doing anything. Lecavalier is scary at times but he appeared to be hurt. These guys have to be tired after so much investment in this game. End it Saturday!!! Highlights: Penguins @ Lightning: Game 3 2011 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-04-19 | The Pens take Game 3! Big response goals. The shift after a goal is so important as it can either keep up the momentum if you just scored or take it right back if the other team just scored. In this game, the Pens had one of both, and the one in the 3rd by Kennedy was HUGE. Might end up being the biggest goal of the series. How good has Kennedy been since Crosby went down? The stat before the goal by Kennedy is scary though. Pens have yet to score a PP goal in this series, where TB is clicking at 4/11 already. It's hard to win games like this when you lose the special teams battle, and it's just not going to cut it as the playoffs progress. Series 2-1 now. Wednesday is another gut check game for TB and the Pens will have to match their intensity. LET'S GO PENS!!!
Highlights: Penguins vs Lightning: Game 2 2011 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-04-16 | Every win feels amazing....every loss feels excruciating. Such is the nature of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and why they are so great. It's important to stay composed: Never get too high, never get too low. The Lightning, to their credit, didn't get too low after that first loss and came out and were the more desperate team. The Pens will need to match that desperation in Game 3.
Highlights: Penguins vs Lightning: Game 1 2011 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-04-14 | The playoffs are back! Pens. Bolts. Game 1. Sorry I haven't been around much recently, been really busy with other things in my life but I will always make time for the playoffs. This is the kind of playoff game you would expect of the Pens without Crosby or Malkin. A grind it out, hard style of hockey, and that's exactly what this game was. Some huge hits early. Oprik hit on Stamkos was nasty. Great way to set the tone of a series. Then, there are moments in a game that are why playoff hockey is so great. In a matter of about 15 seconds, the entire game changes from 0-0 to 2-0. Kovy leads it off, Asham follows up right after. And not to mention Fleury. This team will go as far as he can carry them, and he looked absolutely fantastic in this game, making a ton of stops early as the Lightning were getting a lot of chances, then finishing it out with a shutout. Game 2 on Friday. LET'S GO PENS!!!
New York Islanders vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: All out Brawl [2-11-11] AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-02-12 | My goal with this video is to show everything. All the fights, all the replays, etc. If people want to then cut them up and put smaller videos of the individual fights or hits that happened, they can. This is a chance for people to see everything, because it really was a crazy night of hockey. I have never seen a game like this. And I thought the Pens bench has been decimated over the past month, but this was insane. 17 Fighting Majors 59 Penalties 300+ Penalty Minutes 9 Game Misconducts The Penguins end the game with 6 skaters. The Islanders had 9. This is a good rivalry, but this is ridiculous. The NHL really dropped the ball on this one. They had to know this would be a chippy game but the refs looked dumbfounded. You want a little revenge on Talbot? Fine, fight him like a man or put a solid hit on him, don't go for a sucker punch. You want to get back at Johnson? Score goals on him, and they did. But then turn around and tarnish by having a forward go and fight him. What did Tangradi do? Just gotta keep up the goon behavior at that point? Imagine if Matt Cooke was in this game...
Goalie Fight: Brent Johnson KOs Rick Dipietro [2-2-11] AGreatDayForHockey87 2011-02-03 | GOALIE FIGHT!!!! Johnson got one punch in and that's all it took for Dipietro to fall. What a punch and again the AGH cam delivers. Is there a better back-up goalie in the league than Johnson? He has been solid all season as a back up, really held the fort early when Fleury wasn't playing well, and here shows he's got his teammates back after Dipietro took a shot at Cooke. Go Pens! EDIT: Dipietro is reported to be out for 4 to 6 weeks to do facial fractures.

FSN is not in midseason form AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-10-11 | Lots of new toys in terms of camera shots for the FSN crew. I really like the AGH camera slowmo, but it's causing them to miss a lot of face-offs. Missed faceoffs, random shots to the bench or to a player skating on the ice, the faceoff camera angle at the skate level (this seems like a really weird shot), FSN feed lost temporarily. I admit some of these are nitpicking but some of them are just really bad too. 1. Strange camera angle for the faceoff, all the skates are in the way. 2. AGH cam misses the faceoff, Pens have it in the zone when it jumps back 3. Malkin with the sticker on his butt. 5 seconds of viewing it while the play is still going on. Show this after the whistle since it was funny, but not during the play. 4. Showing Habs coach, miss faceoff. 5. AGH cam, miss faceoff. 6. Showing man in box, miss faceoff. The FSN crew love showing the guy in the box, and I was surprised they didn't show the random cut to when he jumps back on the ice. 7. Oh awesome. This Day In History is back and ready to miss faceoffs all season long. 8. Goal replays take too long; miss faceoff. 9. This one was strange. Habs player cuts in towards the goal just as the camera guy thinks it's going around the boards. Bizarre. 10. Random cut to the camera between the benches. Showing players coming off the ice while the play is still going. Miss the too many men as a result. 11. Same faceoff angle. I don't really like it. All it takes is for the guy's leg on the boards to block it and you get nothing. 12. Gotta show those players coming off the bench. Miss some of the play. 13. Lose the FSN feed. Don't know what happened. 14. Missed faceoff. Camera is on Fleury and you can see him react to it. If that goes in they miss it completely. 15. AGH cam on Kunitz hit. That's fine, but they miss the faceoff and what's worse keep it on Kunitz. 16. This camera angle again. I guarantee they miss a goal this year off a faceoff with this angle. 17. Apparently Malkin wiping his nose is more important than what is happening on the ice. Again, I like the AGH camera, and it was FSN's first game, but these are common issues and have been for years.
Game 1: Penguins vs Flyers Highlights [10-7-10] AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-10-08 | I don't know what my plans are exactly for this season. I know it would be a great if I could upload every game's highlights but I don't know if I have the time/energy. There are always a few games a year for whatever reason I miss, so I would be giving fair warning on that right away. Anyway, on to the game. Obviously a disappointing way to open the new arena, but still...there is a lot to be thankful for. The game was played in Pittsburgh. Not Kansas City, not Las Vegas. Pittsburgh. Where it belongs. Can't say much else really. A million posts were hit in this game (on both sides). I still need to get used to some of the new guys and their numbers out there. GO PENS!

Highlights: Penguins vs Canadiens: Game 7 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-05-13 | The last game ever...in Mellon Arena history. I knew I had already watched my last game in the arena, but it still feels odd. The first game was a 2-1 loss to the Canadiens. I suppose it is fitting. It doesn't feel very fitting at this moment. But in time I guess it will be. I'm not sure. This is the first time since I started recording Pens games and uploading playoff highlights, that I won't be covering the final game of the NHL season. This will feel quite odd as well...just watching and not uploading. While it is sad to see the Mellon go...in the end this is what we wanted. Those dark years with the future of the team uncertain. The future isn't uncertain anymore. The Pens will have a solid team going into a state of the art arena. It's a great position to be in. Making the finals 2 years in a row, and going for a 3rd straight Eastern Conference final round, is a lot to ask for. Obviously anything but a Cup win would be a disappointment this year, but I will always be behind the Pens. It was nice to see the fans that stuck around and the Pens salute them. The Habs are for real. They deserve a ton of credit. They've defeated the President Trophy winning Caps and the (no longer) defending Stanley Cup Champion Pens. There are no more giants in the East, it will be interesting to see how they do against either Boston or Philly. I am certainly not cheering for Philly but I am still not really sure if I would cheer for the Habs or the Bruins. I guess that's about it. Highlights: Penguins vs Canadiens: Game 5 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-05-09 | Would Fleury like to have that shutout? Of course. Would Crosby have liked to score an empty netter to get off of 0 goals for the series? Definitely. But I don't think either of them will mind that much because the PENS WON!!!! More scoring from the defense. Letang and Gonchar get the goals for the Pens from blasts at long range. The Pens were playing their game; long stretches in the offensive zone. Lots of cycling the puck and creating chances. Malkin looked dangerous on every shift. Both goalies made some big saves. The Habs do not get phased by being down by one goal; they've shown that they can continue to play their game and come back and win games even after being down by one (Games 2 and 4 both). The Pens just could not get that next one. In this game they did, and went up by 2. The Habs fought right to the end and even managed to score once, but it was too big of a margin for them to overcome. Game 6. The Pens can close it out. Expect boos, expect garbage thrown on the ice, expect riots afterwards regardless of the outcome. The Pens have got 2 chances now to take this series. The Pens have won their last 5 series on the road, so let's go for 6. LET'S GO PENS!!! LET'S GO PENS!!!
Highlights: Penguins @ Canadiens: Game 4 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-05-07 | Series even again. The Penguins outplayed the Canadiens for the first 40 minutes, but could not close it out. The Habs get a lucky bounce for the game winning goal. Nothing you can do about that. Game 5 is huge. And it's at home. No constant complaining and booing every time a player falls. Nothing thrown on the ice. Not a bunch of idiots in the front row turning around to wave at the camera and missing the game. It will be refreshing. LET'S GO PENS!!! LET'S GO PENS!!!
Highlights: Penguins @ Canadiens: Game 3 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-05-05 | FLLLLEEEUUUURRRRYYY!!!! What a huge game by Fleury! Hopefully people stop talking about his stats because the only stat that matters is WINS! But to add a shutout sure is nice. All the talk about Halak, and Fleury comes out with a shutout. He didn't need to make many saves, but sometimes that's harder to only face 18 and make those huge saves when needed. The Habs came out unreal. They were flying around even though there weren't many shots. It was a nervous first period. The Pens finally got to their game in the 2nd period and the momentum had shifted. The fans decide it's the perfect time, in a 0-0 game, to start the Ole chant. So strange... Halak was making some great saves again. The Pens finally get on a powerplay that goes into the third. On the powerplay, Malkin steps up and scores!!! 1-0 Pens! The clock was moving so slowly, the Habs were coming on. And Fleury made some unreal saves. What a performance. Dupuis ends it with the empty netter! Pens lead the series 2-1. Riots are probably breaking out across Montreal as I type this. GO PENS GO!!! GO PENS GO!!!
Highlights: Penguins vs Canadiens: Game 2 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-05-02 | Bleh... P.S. NBC sucks, I debated even showing their bullshit game because of how bad they are and how they decide it's ok for Buffalo to get their screen but we can't have ours. I couldn't even get through the first period before I had to mute my TV. Great idea with a 2pm time you dickheads. Pittsburgh had a marathon running this morning (I participated in it by the way, my third marathon in three years). I'm also a Pitt student but not a senior, so I didn't have to deal with that traffic anyway. Speaking oftraffic, it was horrible, and it was made worse by the fact that a microwave aka a bomb was found near the finish line (not kidding...). The finish had to be re-routed and we couldn't even get back to our car because the police had it closed off. Finally they let us through (after "disabling" the microwave I suppose) and everyone was trying to leave at the same time and we were at the top of the parking garage...had to wait 45 minutes just to get on the street. Make it home with about an hour to game time. So then I get to watch the game but I'm already tired and sore and then the Pens lose so I'm not in a good mood at the moment. But whatever because the Pens didn't even get a powerplay until basically the third period (though I guess I should expect about the same in Montreal?) and they were definitely playing "their game" for good portions of the game, dominating zone time against the Habs. If they do that all series they'll have a great shot at winning assuming Halak isn't superman all series (I don't think he will be). Get your mind right for Game 3...GO PENS GO!!! GO PENS GO!!!
Highlights: Penguins vs Canadiens: Game 1 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-05-01 | WOOOO!!! The Pens win game 1! Here is the difference between the Pens and the Caps: -The Caps have 1 goal on the powerplay in the entire series, going 1/33. -The Pens score 4 PP goals in GAME 1 ALONE and go 4/4. That's just insane. -The Caps had 3 goals in the last 3 games in over 125 shots. -The Pens had 3 goals in less than half a game in 8 shots. While watching this game I thought the Pens got to "their game" a lot more than they did against the Senators. They were cycling the puck well, bottling up the Habs, and forcing the Habs to take penalties (which the Pens then CAPitalized on). Even when down 1-0, they never looked phased at really any point in this game. The Pens chased Halak after just 1 game! Now who do they go with? Keep in mind though, Halak was chased in the Caps series as well, so the Pens cannot let up if he continues to play. LET'S GO PENS! LET'S GO PENS!
Highlights: Penguins @ Senators: Game 6 2010 Playoffs AGreatDayForHockey87 2010-04-25 | WOOOO!! THE SERIES IS OVER! PENS WIN! Pens down early, it doesn't look good. Thoughts of a game 7 creep into your head. But the Pens rally. They keep working hard through the 2nd and 3rd periods. Matt Cooke, what a player. Went to the dirty areas in front of the net, and got rewarded. Forces OT. Dupuis is able to win it! No goals in the series or the playoffs last year, but he's been so solid all year, and comes through with a huge goal in OT! Man, did this game look like Game 5. Give up a few goals early, rally back, 3-3 going to OT, multiple calls reviewed and goals called off. But this time, the Pens win it in overtime! Reminds me of another Game 6 in the first round...Pens down 3-0 but rally to win.
