Hobbit Hole: 0:00 – 0:12 This was a 3 week group project that I worked on along side Alexius Hill for an Environment modeling class. I contributed to the set dressing, props, textures, lighting, rendering and post work. I was responsible from start to finish for the tree and swing, fence, mailbox, waterpump, ladder, foliage and foliage layout, scatter assets, rocks and smoke assets. I also was in charge of the hill’s initial concept sculpt, and texturing the hill that Alexius sculpted. For the props, I modeled base meshes in Maya, then brought them over to Zbrush for a sculpting pass, and baked and textured in Substance Painter. The foliage was done in Speedtree and textured in photoshop, the scatter assets were done primarily in Maya, but with a couple procedurals in Houdini (like the rocks, which were done with the tool I show at 0:41.) I was also in charge of lighting, rendering the scene in Maya and Arnold, and compositing the scene in Nuke. Cyberpunk Building: 0:13 – 0:28 This was my section to complete in a group environment project. I modeled and uv’d the assets primarily in Maya but used Houdini for the creation of the pipes and wires and the scatter rocks (using the tool I show at 0:41), and Marvelous Designer for the trash bags. I then textured in Substance Painter and Photoshop, lit and rendered using Maya and Arnold, and composited in Nuke. Burger box assets seen on the ground are taken from the Quixel Megascans Library. Adventurer Character: 0:28 – 0:41 A final character for a character sculpting class. Created the initial base meshes and uvs for the body, instrument, leg, head piece, and boots maya, then sculped in Zbrush. Created the outfit in Marvelous Designer, remeshed and added detail in Zbrush. Then baked displacement for everything in Zbrush and moved on to Substance Painter to bake the rest of the maps and texture. Created the hair using Xgen, and lit and rendered using Maya and Arnold. Created final composition in Photoshop. The references were taken from the Art station page “SIXMOREVODKA STUDIO” Procedural Rock Generator: 0:41 – 0:53 A procedural rock tool I created in Houdini to aid in 3D environment creation. The tool is designed to create a rock either from nothing, or to ‘rockify’ an existing mesh. The tool utilizes multiple levels of noise driven displacement with exposed sliders, allowing for quick and easy iteration. My workflow using this tool would be to generate a rock that I like, then export into Zbrush where I would generate a low poly version. I would then go into Substance Designer or Painter and texture the rock. Photography 0:53 – 1:01 One of my favorite side hobbies is photography. Here are a couple of my favorite shots. I shoot with a Sony a6000 and edit my photos in Lightroom. The photo broken down at 0:55 – 0:58 I added the additional petals by extracting the petal texture from the image, then in After Effects, used a particle system to randomly scatter cards to which I mapped the petal texture. I then added some lens artifacts and passed the image back to Lightroom for colors.Depth Matte Tutorial V3 - BO2Nyko Edits2018-10-18 | This time using Reshade, I teach you how to record a depth matte from Call Of Duty Black Ops 2.
Although this tutorial was not the most basic ever, I am using it to test the waters for a new, basic tutorial series I've been wanting to make for a while now. If you would like to see some tutorials, basic, in depth effects work, or anything between, let me know in the comments below.
I started this edit roughly a year ago, and it has changed so much since then, that I don't even know where to start. The beginning is better than the middle, and the middle is better than the end. I am not completely happy with this edit, but I doubt I will ever be. Some parts aren't as clean as they should be, and some effects and transitions need serious work to be considered passable in today's community, but I needed to finish this now, or I would never be able find the motivation.
Life is Strange and the color grade in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince were my biggest inspirations to start two projects: One (this one) started as a short edit to showcase a way to do 3d fog inside AE, but when I lost the files for the other project, I elected to merge the two and tried to fit the two different themes as best I could.
To conclude, thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed. As you can probably tell, I am writing this very late at night while my AE renders my upscaled video. Even though it sounds like I didn't like "Crystal Lake", I did. It taught me loads, and I would do it again. There are always things that I forget to put in here and I always feel bad for forgetting things I wanted to say, but thats that. So once again, I thank you all so much for watching!
