St Ann’s Warehouse presents the break-out hit of 2023’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Dark Noon envisions U.S. history as equal parts ridiculous, horrifying, and deeply profound. On an open stage covered with the red dirt of the prairie, the skeleton of a pioneer town is erected in real time by an extraordinary cast of South African actors. Acclaimed Danish director Tue Biering and South African co-director and choreographer Nhlanhla Mahlangu retell the Hollywood story of a High Noon Western through an outsider’s lens: Native Americans, cowboys, missionaries, enslaved Africans, Chinese workers, European settlers, prostitutes, and Confederates. Ripe with marvelous stagecraft, slapstick humor, and a keen eye for hypocrisy, Dark Noon is a Wild Wild West circus where an innocent encounter can explode in an instant.

“It was my safest place…It was home.”
The hundreds of residents of West London’s Grenfell Tower had their origins in the Caribbean, Portugal, Syria, Morocco, Ethiopia, Britain, and more: a thriving community of communities immediately familiar to any New Yorker. They protested loudly for years as their mismanaged public housing fell into disrepair. When the building went up in flames in 2017, there was no shock, only horror. In the end, 72 lives would be lost. This riveting call-to-action offers a compelling investigation into the catastrophe, driven by the survivors’ stories, their heroic acts, and their impassioned struggle for justice.

JULIUS CAESAR | HENRY IV | THE TEMPEST By William Shakespeare Directed by Phyllida Lloyd | Featuring Harriet Walter
Phyllida Lloyd’s gripping films of the groundbreaking Donmar Warehouse Shakespeare Trilogy, in which women play all the parts originally written for men, could not be more timely. Lloyd’s metatheatrical approach made the actors inmates in a women’s prison portraying the characters in Shakespeare’s plays, in which the consequences of social and criminal justice inequities are especially relevant. The casts, led by Harriet Walter, evoke with gusto the raw, tragic pain we are reliving today.
Shot in front of a live audience in London at the Donmar Warehouse King’s Cross in December 2016, the films were edited to include separately shot, hand-held and GoPro footage, breaking the formality of the traditional live camera “capture” of stage productions and bringing the audience into the center of the action with thrilling immediacy.A Tribute to Hal WillnerSt. Anns Warehouse2020-04-14 | Music:

Last winter, THE JUNGLE sold out at St. Ann’s Warehouse. Now, the multi-award-winning production returns to St. Ann’s after taking London, New York, and San Francisco by storm.
Meet the hopeful, resilient residents of The Jungle, a refugee camp in Calais, France — where thousands of adults and children fleeing drought, war, and civil strife sought their “good chance” entry to the U.K. The Jungle asks why those in severe need must face great danger when crossing borders in their search for safety.

AMERICAN PREMIERE
Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga makes her American theatrical debut in a passionate, critically acclaimed portrayal of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by Yaël Farber and featuring an ensemble of leading Irish actors. Known in the U.S. for her work in film (Loving) and television (Preacher), Negga’s portrayal of Hamlet “shifts from boyish vulnerability to martial ferocity.” (Financial Times) With Farber’s direction, the focus moves from Hamlet’s anguish and identity to the power of resistance against treachery and the raw usurpation of power.

With Eric Berryman, Jasper McGruder, Philip Moore Directed by Kate Valk
“A STEREOPHONIC SÉANCE…stirring…refreshing…perseveringly SOULFUL… ” —The Los Angeles Times
“Negro Folklore from Texas State Prisons” was brought to The Wooster Group by performer Eric Berryman after he saw the Group’s previous record album interpretation Early Shaker Spirituals. THE B-SIDE is an original performance based on an LP of work songs, spirituals, and toasts recorded in 1964 in Texas’ then-segregated prison farms. Eric Berryman, Jasper McGruder, and Philip Moore channel the inmates’ voices, via in-ear receivers, and transmit them live. Berryman also provides context from the book Wake Up Dead Man: Hard Labor and Southern Blues by Bruce Jackson, the folklorist who recorded the album.
