Critiquing Deadlink & The Roguelike Genre TelekinesticMan 2023-09-21 | I've complained at length in the past about intrusive RPG mechanics in real-time action games, but roguelikes are finally the climax. Listen to my thoughts about Deadlink and how it subverts, or reinforces, the conventions of roguelikes/rogue-lites.I'd like to apologise for a brief visual error in this video. I used footage of Risk of Rain 2 when mentioning procedural level design, but I've been informed the game doesn't have this feature. This was simply a poor assumption on my part, as the levels honestly felt random to me after playing a few quick runs to get some footage of other roguelikes. As I said at the start of the video, I know I don't like this genre, so I haven't played many recent roguelikes in my free time anyway.
