She left him zipped in a suitcase despite his pleas for help. Boone is asserting self-defense and turned down a plea deal for a lesser charge of Manslaughter with a 15-year sentence shortly before trial. Boone has been in custody since February 2020, when this happened, and went through 8 state-appointed attorneys before the Judge determined that she must represent herself. At the end of August 2024, less than 45 days before trial, her current lawyers parachuted in and volunteered to take the case. The court denied their request for continuance because they took the case, knowing it would go to trial in early October. Jury selection began on October 14, 2024, after a short delay due to Hurricane Milton. The deliberating jury for second-degree murder in Florida is comprised of six jurors. Opening Statements will most likely begin on Thursday, October 17th. I am covering the trial live on YouTube. If you have the Law Nerd App you won’t miss a minute. Boone is charged with Second Degree Murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres. She claimed that they were playing around while she was drunk, put him in a suitcase, and accidently forgot about him overnight. She called the police after she found him dead from suffocation. The police went through her phone and found a video of Jorge pleading with her to release him from the suitcase because he couldn’t breathe. Boone instead taunted and laughed at Torres. She was arrested in 2020 and has remained in custody. Boone has had 8 public defenders and had to represent herself because she would not work with her appointed representation. Boone advertised and got a private attorney to take on her case. Last week, she rejected a plea deal for the lesser charge of manslaughter, serving 15 years. Sean Diddy Combs faces six new civil cases filed against him by attorney Tony Buzbee. More are on the way. These cases can be added to the federal criminal case with sufficient evidence. Diddy’s attorney defended his client stating that they have full confidence that he didn’t do the things claimed in the lawsuits. His attorney’s will most likely claim that Diddy cannot adequately represent himself from the barrage of civil litigation while in custody. We’ll see what the judges will rule in early November. Kefee D, who is charged with the murder of Tupac, wrote a book called "Compton Street Legend" and said that Diddy ordered the hit on Tupac. He also says that the only two people who are alive from that night are himself and Suge Knight. Will they speak up? Diddy also has a new judge, Arun Subramanian, assigned to the case which means that his attorneys can have 2 more opportunities to make their case to get Diddy out of custody. He also has new attorneys assigned to the case, Anthony Ricco and Alexandra Shapiro. Alexandra is an appellate attorney and is signed on the appeal of the denial of bail. Interestingly she is also the appellate lawyer for Sam Bankman Fried and filed his appeal for a new trial. Shapiro was also a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.High-profile Houston attorney Tony Buzbee did a press conference stating that he will be bringing individual civil cases against Sean Diddy Combs. The prosecution's response is due by October 16th and then Read will have a chance to reply by October 25th. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life. After a detention hearing that lasted more than two hours, he was held without bail until trial. The Defense is appearing before the assigned Judge on September 18, 2024, before the assigned District Judge. It’s unlikely he will be released based on the charges he is facing, the allegations, and the concerns over his power, money, and influence being used to contact or influence victims and witnesses. Some of what I learned in court today makes me wonder how this went on for so long and was known about by so many without any consequences. The case was initially ruled a suicide however an internal affairs investigation was opened and led to the resignation of Matthew Farwell, his twin William Farwell and Deputy Chief Richard Devine, prior to them being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. On June 18, 2024 a pathologist hired by Birchmore’s family determined that Sandra Birchmore died by homicide not suicide. The pathologist was hired in relation to the family's wrongful death action against the department and the officers who had resigned. On August 27, 2024, former police officer, Matthew Farwell, was arrested for the murder of Sandra Birchmore and charged with Killing a Witness or Victim. Baker 2024-08-30 | The November 13, 2022, murders of 4 University of Idaho students shook the university community, and the world has been watching, waiting for an arrest in the case. On December 30, 2022, Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old criminal justice graduate student at Washington State University, was arrested and charged with the four Murders. This is an Idaho Death Penalty case with extensive litigation over evidence, discovery, and where the summer 2025 trial will be held.
