"Ophilia, the Cleric" from Octopath Traveler is originally composed by Yasunori Nishiki. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Welcome to one of my most (what I consider to be) creative arrangements yet! I played Octopath Traveler in 2021 and was completely blown away by the soundtrack and the overall artistic direction of the game. So when OT2 was announced I was ecstatic. Anyways, this was my submission for the June 2023 Pixel Mixers contest, which was "twist month" (anything goes regarding what can be covered, as long as it's in a different direction than the original soundtrack). I've been wanting to cover something from OT for quite some time now, and randomly I got an idea in my head - "what if Octopath Traveler was a musical?" The gears started turning and I started writing. I wanted to incorporate a lot of fun sound effects and auxiliary percussion - so I bought a few new instruments (mouth siren and vibraslap), and also partnered with V-Ron for half of it as well (she did amazing). I've never actually been a theatre kid (I didn't even play in pit orchestra while in high school), so this was something completely new to me. I spent a few weeks just listening to musical scores to get a general idea of what I wanted to do, which definitely helped. I also have to shoutout all 9 amazing collaborators here, and they truly let this one shine. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this arrangement, this was extremely fun to put together!

"Iki Town (Night)" from Pokemon Sun and Moon is originally composed by Minako Adachi. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Alola! Welcome to my entry for the #SoundoleChillOut2023 contest! This is a unique arrangement for percussion ensemble and accordion - which is an unusual but surprisingly effective combo! I originally had this concept in mind a few months back, and knew I wanted to execute it for this contest. I've never written for accordion before - so this was a COMPLETELY new experience for me. I actually asked keyotter about collabing at VGMCon last April, and he gave me a bunch of tips on writing and nailed the part. I also have to shout-out Rahul and Matt for performing amazing on the other mallet percussion parts (especially since I don't have access to a vibraphone or 5-octave marimba myself haha) - so I'm super proud of how well they did. This is also the first arrangement in a while where I've gotten to use a lot of avant-garde percussion "instruments." In no order, the background wall of sound features these instruments: Ocean Drum, Rain Stick, Seed Rattle, Shakers, Bodhran, Splash Cymbal (with Brushes), Cabasa, Plastic Cutting Board, Triangle, Wind Chimes, Sandpaper Blocks. I specifically bought an ocean drum for this cover - and it is hands down one of the coolest sound design instruments I've ever used. And of course, since Alola is based off of Hawaii, I had to do a little reference to "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Anyways, thanks for listening to this cover and I hope you enjoy the rest of the entries on this year's Soundole Chill-Out contest!

"Atlantis Hotel (Pinch)" from Pokemon Duel is originally composed by Shota Kageyama. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Welcome to possibly the deepest cut OST I've ever covered - at least in terms of Pokemon music. April 2023's Pixel Mixers contest theme was "Free-To-Play" games, and I was originally going to sit out because of VGMCon and my traveling up to Michigan at the beginning of this month. But just for kicks I decided to look through a few OST of a few different games. I was originally going to do something else from Pokemon Unite, but I couldn't really find anything that stuck out. I gave this one a quick skim... and holy crap this theme has no right to gas has hard as it does. I'm a pretty big sucker for Latin jazz, and I don't arrange in this style very often so I knew I had to go for it. I haven't actually played Duel (My high school friends played it briefly in 2016 but that was about it), and the gameplay itself doesn't look to good - seems to me just like a pretty generic gacha mobile game. But this was incredibly fun to put together, and featured an amazing collab lineup. I want to give an extra shoutout to Zach on drums and his cousin Drew for being the recording engineer - I've known him since 9th grade and it's about time we got the time to work together.

Hey everyone, I'm back with a new cover this month! March 2023's Pixel Mixers contest theme was "3DS Games" (which is a pure coincidence considering the 3DS E-Shop closing), and I decided to throw my hat in the ring. I was originally going to do something from PMD Gates or Super, but I was listening to some SM tracks and remembered this gorgeous theme. I've never written for a woodwind quintet before, so this was a new experience for me. Thankfully I had 5 amazing musicians help me out here, and they performed amazingly! This was really fun to pull off, and during the arrangement I tried to feature everyone in at least one spot - and I think it turned out great. Anyways, thanks for listening and I hope you enjoyed!

"Treeshroud Forest" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky is originally composed by Arata Iiyoshi, Hideki Sakamoto, Keisuke Ito, Ryoma Nakamura, and Kenichi Saito. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm back with another cover from PMD! It's been over a year since my last PMD project (Monster House), but the December Pixel Mixer's contest was "games involving time travel." Since time travel is the story driver for PMD2, I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring. I was listening to a lot of prog at work in November/December, and I randomly got the idea to write Treeshroud Forest in this way. VOLA and Arch Echo were probably my biggest inspirations for this, along with PEEK for the clean sections. I wanted to have a pretty unique instrumentation - with two guitar leads and soprano sax. I knew to ask GOTW right away since he's a PMD superfan, and then Kalen and Manuel showed interest as well (thank you Yusuf for introducing me to Manuel). Erika saw that I was talking about prog and wanted to get in on the rhythm guitar parts and she nailed it. V-Ron is another PMD superfan, and Yusuf was here to kill it again. I won't lie, I ran into some issues with the arrangement/mix - as well as getting sick for a few days last week (which made meeting the deadline difficult), but we pulled through in the end. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this cover, and please check out all the other amazing musicians featured here!

Mauville Melodies: A Jazz Tribute to Pokemon RSE is an album organized by Allen Brasch and GameGrooves (game-grooves.com/music/mauville-melodies ). The album artwork was done by Don Corgi (twitter.com/DonCorgi) and the audio was mastered by James C. Hoffman (twitter.com/JCHoffmanMusic ).
"Oceanic Museum" from Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald is originally composed by Junichi Masuda and Morkiazu Aoki. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Thank you everyone for listening to my first ever GameGrooves album track! This one was a lot of fun to work with (one of my favorite arrangements ever actually). This concept started over a year ago actually, when I thought about "what if I did the S.S. Anne theme for a large ensemble?" In January Allen posted something vague about Pokemon RSE on Twitter, and I was like "heyyyy." Since I remembered that the Oceanic Museum theme is a re-arrangement of the original S.S. Anne theme, I figured this would be a good time and place to execute that vision. I was originally planning on doing a swing arrangement for the fast section, but couldn't figure out a way to work with it. Then I decided to go for a modern route and the lights flicked on. I took a lot of inspiration from modern jazz composer and Grammy winner Maria Schneider - notably her piece "The 'Pretty' Road". Thankfully for me, I had an all-star collab team to help me with this project, and I really couldn't have done any of it without them. Anyways, thank you for watching, and be sure to support Mauville Melodies on streaming services/stores!

"Kingdom of Uraya" from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is originally composed by Kenji Hiramatsu. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Holy. Crap. This is hands down the most technically demanding arrangement I've ever written - so I knew I needed to bring in the heavy hitters for collaborating (they blew it out of the water). This arrangement was pretty spontaneously, since I've been listening to a lot of math rock (notably the band jizue) at work for the past few months, and I thought "what if Uraya was in 10/8?" A month later, here we are. Along with Xenoblade 3 releasing tomorrow (!!!), I knew I had to commit to it. Huge shout out again to all 3 of my collaborators here, they were the ones that really let it shine. This arrangement was incredibly fun to play and put together, so I hope you enjoy this cover!

Hey everyone, I'm here with a funky new cover - this time it's K.K. Disco from Animal Crossing! This is a track I've been wanting to do for a few months now, but haven't had time until now to do it. Luckily, this track was able to qualify for both the Pixel Mixers' June 2022 contest (Games from 2010-Present) and the GameGrooves Heat-Up Challenge (where all tracks have to be something to dance/groove to) - and I'm super happy with how this turned out. I met Marius at vgmtogether last year and found out he's both an amazing musician and an amazing Smash player (double-interests woo!). When I was arranging this track, I was thinking "I need a kick-ass tenor sax player here" so I reached out to him, and he said yes. Along with Marius, Ciara is one of my college friends and a member of the Video Game Jazz Ensemble at Michigan Tech (although she plays alto sax in it instead). I knew this was one of her favorite Animal Crossing tracks too - so I reached out to her, and she worked it out with our jazz band director to borrow his recording studio for a night. And lastly, I originally planned for a synth solo, but then I got lazy, so I asked on Twitter and on Discord "hey, does anyone want to lay down a synth and/or guitar solo for me?" Ro sent me a message shortly after - and man his solo blew me out of the water! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this fun groovy tune and thanks for listening!

Legends Arceus was hands down my favorite experience with Pokemon in at least 5 years - and it certainly came with some amazing music. Cobalt Coastlands is the third area you encounter in the game, and the first time I heard this theme, I was immediately mesmerized. It's not often I encounter a "drop everything, I need to do it now" theme in gaming, but this was definitely one of them. This arrangement has been three months in the making, but I'm super happy with how it turned out. I have to give all the credit to my amazing collab team here - they really let it shine. I don't have much else to say, so I'll let the music speak for itself - and I hope you enjoy this incredibly fun cover!

"Monster House!" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team is originally composed by Arata Iiyoshi and Atsuhiro Ishizuna. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Boom. Ending 2021 with a bang. Hey everyone, and welcome to my final cover of 2021! This month I decided to return to my PMD roots arrange one of the most anxiety-inducing pieces in all of gaming - but instead, let's make it FUNKY. There are a total of 7 guest collaborators on this arrangement and they really let this project shine. Since the PM contest theme for December was "Animal Month" - any themes associated with animals or animal-related creatures were acceptable. After consulting with Kyle, he said all Pokemon tracks were acceptable - so I knew I wanted to arrange something from PMD. I also haven't done a funk cover since February and was itching to do one. It eventually evolved into a full combo arrangement, including some surprise members that spontaneously joined (Ruscel and GOTW were like "yo can I play" and I was like "sure why not"). I also didn't learn until now that Alejandro is actually a guitar primary and bass secondary (I assumed bass was his primary), but we got that cleared up and he was able to cover both of them just fine. Overall I'm very happy with how this turned out - and a huge shout-out to everyone who played on here. Go check out their stuff, seriously.

Hey everyone, here's a new cover for the November 2021 Pixel Mixers contest! This month was "Touhou vs Falcom" - which at first I was unsure of participating because I have no association to either of these series/developers. However, after talking with some friends for some recommendations, this theme stuck out to me almost immediately. I asked my college friend Joodough if he wanted to play some guitar, and thankfully he said yes. Also, since I crammed the entirety of this over Thanksgiving break, I ended up not being able to record bass. Luckily, SiS was around for an emergency bass collab, and he did fantastically! Anyways, I don't have much else to say about this since I don't have any connection to the game, so I hope the music speaks for itself. Anyways, thanks for listening and we hope you enjoyed!

"Land of Morytha" from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is originally composed by ACE. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Oh. My. Lord. I've never written something this heavy before. For the October Pixel Mixer's contest, the theme was "Ruins and Dungeons," and this theme initially came to my mind. The Land of Morytha is undoubtedly one of the creepiest places I've ever been to in gaming - so I got an idea - what better way to celebrate Halloween than to make a super creepy theme into metal? Now, as you may know - I am absolutely not a metal specialist. Fortunately, my collaborators really helped bring this together. I have to give a special shoutout to Capt'n Shred here - he provided a TON of mixing advice - and even mixed the rhythm section to make it sound "metal" (when I attempted it - it sounded like "slightly distorted jazz"). Anyways, this was EXTREMELY fun to put together, and I might consider this to be one of my best works to date. Moving from atmospheric percussion, THEREMIN (thanks Daniel), and random notes (that was fun to do) to high energy metal is something I didn't expect to work so well, but here we are. Anyways, thanks for listening to my cover and I hope you enjoyed it!

Congratulations to all KH fans for Sora being in Smash. Also that means I had to shamelessly sell out and make a quick cover. I've never played a KH game, but I know the music is awesome, with Dearly Beloved being one of the most iconic ones. I don't have much to say other than the fact that my guitar technique definitely needs a lot of work (and it shows haha). Anyways, I hope you like this short and sweet cover!

"Valor Lakefront" from Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl, and Pokemon Platinum is originally composed by Hitomi Sato. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Happy 15th anniversary to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl! Here's a short relaxing cover of Valor Lakefront (also played on Route 213) to celebrate! This was more or less completely unplanned, but I was talking to Ruscel (go check him out: youtube.com/c/ImRuscelOfficial) two weeks ago and he said "yeah DPPt 15 year anniversary is on 9/28" and I was like "oh crap I might have to do something for that." I settled on this theme, since I thought it would be easy enough to record and mix in under 2 weeks, while still being fun overall. I also tried something different with recording a few things outside. Michigan's Upper Peninsula is beautiful this time of year, so I figured I'd capitalize on the scenery at least once before I graduate college this December. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this short and sweet cover!

"Auridon Sunrise" from The Elder Scrolls Online is originally composed by Brad Derrick. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone! Here's a new cover for the September PM contest, which was themed around MMOs! Now, I've never been one to get into MMOs (I attempted Star Wars: The Old Republic once in like 2016, but I didn't like it), so I originally was going to sit this one out. However, I am a big fan of Skyrim (TES6 when will you release already...), and I figured I'd take a look through the OST "just in case." Lo and behold, this theme stuck out. The original is a beautiful orchestral suite, and I decided "what if I made it a chamber ensemble?" I settled on choosing an arrangement for flute, cello, and marimba, since I thought their sounds could complement each other really well - and turns out, it did! I have to give a huge thanks to Becca and CA for performing on this track, they really brought it to life. Lastly, this is my first live cover that doesn't feature piano/keyboard - which is uncharacteristic for me, but I felt like branching out for something different this month. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this cover of Auridon Sunrise from The Elder Scrolls Online!

"Crossroads" from Hollow Knight is originally composed by Christopher Larkin. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Welcome to probably my most "out-there" arrangement! I'm proud to feature a lot of percussion here, since I don't normally get to use this many different colors on my arrangements. I'll start off by saying I haven't played Hollow Knight yet, but when I signed up for the PM album, this track caught my ear (it was actually my second choice, but still an amazing one), and I decided to try and make as much of a dreamy soundscape as possible for the first half (similar to the original). The only VSTs featured here are the synth-bass, the strings, and the drumset - everything else here was fully live and created by me. I even introduced my most bizarre "instrument" here - the compressed air can at the end. When I was dusting my keyboard off, I thought "hey, this sounds kinda nice" and the rest is history. There's a chance the can will make a return in future projects, but no promises ;). And lastly, the second half of the track has a lot higher energy, so I more or less wrote a completely new melody line, and Xander stepped up to play lead guitar and did amazingly! This is my 4th time working with Xander (3rd at the time actually, since I completed this before I made the Bicycle cover haha), so we work quite well together. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this cover, and please, check out the whole album, it's awesome!

"Shivre City" from Pokemon Unite is originally composed by Shota Kageyama. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
I'm so happy I finally got to work with Dave on a project! Dave is an amazing musician and producer who has been an enormous help to me over the past 2 years or so. Anything from ear training, to mix feedback, to showing me new plugins and mix concepts - Dave has taught me a significant portion of it (I would not be where I am today without him). Anyways, I've been hooked on Pokemon Unite for the past month or so. This game is extremely fun to play with friends, and Alolan Ninetales is my main (I'm a huge sucker for the freeze mechanic). Anyways, the August Pixel Mixer's contest theme was announced as "Fire and Ice" (so any themes pertaining to fire and/or ice). A friend of mine on Twitter randomly posted "this theme [Shivre City] is a banger" and I took a listen and I was hooked (when I'm playing with friends I can't really experience the OST since I'm talking with them in voice). And even more coincidentally, Shivre City happens to be an ice-themed city. Lo and behold... this cover came to exist. I loved the high energy EDM vibe to it, and I asked Dave to write drums and a synth solo for it - which he did AMAZINGLY! On top of that, he provided hours worth of feedback (which was hard to swallow for a bit haha), but it was absolutely worth it in the end. Also, this is my debut playing electric guitar and electric bass on my channel! I still have a long way to go, but it was fun to play here! Anyways, go support Dave, and we hope you enjoy this cover!

Hey everyone, here's a short piano cover of Goldenrod City from Pokemon GSC. I made this cover actually in dedication to two of my college friends (whom I met through our school's Pokemon Club) - and they are getting married this month. I won't say who they are to protect their privacy, but I just want to say congratulations to you two. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this cover, it was a lot of fun to write an expressive arrangement and to practice.

"Bicycle" from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y is originally composed by Shota Kageyama. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Oh. Boy. This is without a doubt the most ambitious arrangement I've ever attempted - bringing on a grand total of FIVE collaborators here (my previous most was two). This is my entry for the June 2021 Pixel Mixer's contest - which was methods of transportation. I knew I wanted to do something with Pokemon, but couldn't figure something out. Now I only played through XY once (and didn't remember anything beyond Lumiose City's camera giving me headaches), so when I looked up a video titled "All Pokemon Bicycle Themes" this one immediately jumped out at me. I knew I wanted something fast paced - so I went with rock/jazz fusion at the original tempo. I also wanted a lot more instruments than I normally have, so I wrote parts for trumpet, two guitars, bass, and drums, as well as keyboards. Luckily, everyone here was willing to play, and they simply astounded me. This was one of the most intense projects I've ever had to mix, but I got feedback from plenty of people to bring it to its best. Since I have a few other things on my plate over the next few months, this will probably be the last PM contest I enter (as a primary arranger at least, I might collab with someone else) for the next few months, so I figured to go out with a bang. Overall, this was an incredibly fun project to work on, and I hope you enjoy!

"In The Morning Sun" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is originally composed by Arata Iiyoshi, Hideki Sakamoto, Keisuke Ito, Ryoma Nakamura, and Kenichi Saito. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, Sean here and here to present my #SoundoleChillOut2021 cover - In The Morning Sun from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky featuring Tiggs! This is one of the most fun arrangements I've done yet, since it's my first time featuring a vocalist, as well as my first "large-scale" percussion arrangement. As you may know, PMD music has an extremely special place in my heart, and this soundtrack is no exception. I knew that Tiggs was a huge PMD fan as well and an OUTSTANDING vocalist, so I reached out to her back in March to do a collab on this (originally for voice, marimba, vibraphone, and glockenspiel) - and she said she would consider it if she wasn't busy (thankfully her schedule opened up in May after she finished finals).
As I was arranging the piece... I came to realize that the lowest note was a G - while the marimba my school has is only a 4.3 octave (going down to an A), so I extended the arrangement to include piano and chimes for range and color (which was just a wise choice overall). I'm lucky that I got to hog the band room at my school from May 4-6 - since finals had ended a week earlier, so I basically had free reign (since nobody else would be using it). This wasn't the only thing I recorded over that session (which will be a surprise later), but this definitely took a significant chunk of time (as well as a few blisters). After Tiggs' schedule freed up, she was able to record her audio, and man did she NAIL her parts. I obviously am not a vocalist, and have never written for vocals before - but her experience definitely made my job very easy - as well as providing a ton of feedback on arrangement and mix drafts. Anyways, I am super happy with how this cover came out, and we hope you enjoy this entry as well as the rest of the entries in Soundole's Chill Out Contest 2021!

"Right Behind You" from Team Fortress 2 is originally composed by Mike Morasky. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, here's a short cover that I worked on. This month's PM contest theme happens to be shooter games (both first and third person) - and while I'm not the biggest fan of most shooter games, I definitely have played a lot of TF2. Along with this, I found out recently through a friend that Valve publishes their entire soundtrack score LEGALLY AND FOR FREE on their website! I've never seen a game publisher do this before, so I was shocked. The score existing definitely made my job transcribing and arranging a lot easier, since I just had to condense it down. I originally planned on doing a solo piano arrangement, but when I was writing it it would have given me carpal tunnel, so I moved to a two pianos arrangement which is both safer and easier. I have more (larger) covers planned soon, so this one's just to hold you over until then. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this arrangement of Right Behind You from TF2!

"Rosalina in the Observatory" from Super Mario Galaxy is originally composed by Koji Kondo. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, here's a new cover for the month. The PixelMixers cover challenge this time around was "Woman's Month," - which meant a female character's [associated] theme, a soundtrack written by a female composer, or a game starring a female main character. I decided to write a theme and variations arrangement of Rosalina's Comet Observatory (loosely inspired by Andy-Ru's similar arrangement last year). When writing this, I wanted to keep things as sweet as possible, but then I suddenly got the idea to turn it into a concert march (which is very unlikely at the surface level) - but as I began to dive into it more I really liked the way the arrangement turned out. Joining me again is zachf01 on trumpet, flugelhorn, and tenor saxophone, who did a great job. Lastly, I decided to feature a number of new instruments - notably guitar! I've stated taking lessons this past semester. I'm nowhere close to good, but it's been a fun process. Anyways, we hope you enjoy this cover!

"Hearthome City (Day)" from Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl, and Pokemon Platinum is originally composed by Hitomi Sato. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, here's a short impromptu piano cover. As you probably know, Sinnoh remakes were announced yesterday, so what better way to celebrate it with some DPPt music? Yes, this is semi selling out because I wanted to profit on the Gen 4 hype. But that's okay because Sinnoh's music is godlike to begin with, so it was fun to work with. I managed to transcribe and perform this over the course of two days. It's not perfect (I was a lot more lax on my standards for something like this - compared to my other larger covers), but it's simple and gets the job done. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this cover, and SINNOH HYPE!

"Driftveil City" from Pokemon Black and Pokemon White is originally composed by Hitomi Sato. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm back with a new cover, this time it's Driftveil City from Pokemon BW! I decided to enter (again) the /r/PixelMixers monthly contest, which this month was towns and cities. I was having trouble deciding between this one and Virbank City, but Driftveil ultimately won out. The original is normally pretty up beat, so I decided to try slowing it down to be more of an 80s funk, and I'm really happy with how the arrangement turned out. This is also the "debut" of me playing vibraphone (technically I featured it in one of my covers back in 2017... but I don't like to talk about those ones since they're really bad), but in terms of my "modern" covers (AKA ones that I actually knew how to mix), I'm happy to feature it here. Getting scan access to my school's band room to use the vibraphone was a bit annoying, but it worked out. And lastly, this was my first time using Davinci Resolve for video editing. I had a few road bumps, but after talking to a few people for help it sorted itself out. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this cover!

"Practice" from Frogger: Ancient Shadow is originally composed by Hironobu Yahata, Shinya Ohtouge, and Tatsuo Yokoyama. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Ohhhh boy. This cover was an interesting one. For starters, the January 2021 Pixel Mixer's contest theme was "Konami vs Capcom" - which allowed you to choose a theme from any game produced by either of those two publishers. Now I have a confession to make - I haven't played that many games from either of these franchises (I'm very much a Nintendo Boy^TM), and was initially struggling to think of something first. However, I remembered playing this *really obscure* Frogger game on PC around 2006 or so. Turns out, Ancient Shadow is that game (I didn't remember the title so I had to do some searching there). This game was actually pretty difficult, and of course 7 year old me didn't know how do much of the tricks nor solve the puzzles; I only got to like the second level - and of course this track being "Practice" means it was the tutorial stage. When I was arranging this, I knew I wanted to go for a very acoustic and New Orleans style of jazz. The bass is by far the most important part of this soundtrack, so I needed a funky bassist to help me out here. Luckily Xander (from ZeldaRocks) came to my rescue, and did a fun and grooving job. I also wanted to feature all the auxiliary percussion instruments I've bought over the past year, so this was finally my chance to do it (most of my covers don't really go beyond shaker and tambourine). Lastly, I wanted a really greasy trombone solo, and I was looking for a collaborator for a few days. prich3rd then sent me a DM, and WOW did they do a fantastic job. Their growls especially made this fun and lively, so I commend them. Also this happens to be my first time doing anything with VOCALS (even if it was just a 1 measure solo) - who knows when that'll happen again. Anyways, enough talk. This whole project was super fun and we hope you enjoy this cover!

Hey everyone, and I'm here to present Route 42/Lake of Rage from Pokemon Gold and Silver! This was my submission for the Pixel Mixers album "Catch This! Vol. 2 Goldenrod FM" - and has been in the works since last summer. I started the arrangement in July, recorded in August/September, and then mixed over the course of September-November. My submission was accepted on the fourth attempt, but the Quality Control Team's feedback is super helpful every single time - and definitely made the final mix MUCH better than the first draft. Zach joined me on this for another trumpet improv solo, so thanks to him. Anyways, we hope you enjoy this cover, and if you can you should definitely check out the full album, which is available for FREE download!

"The Grande Finale" from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is originally composed by Yoko Shimomura. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone! I'm back with a new cover, which is The Grand Finale from Bowser's Inside Story! For the first time I'm doing an arrangement outside of my forte (jazz/funk), and instead am going with prog-metal, and joining me is Ian lasorella on electric guitar! The contest theme for this month (December 2020) was final bosses or final areas, and at first I didn't feel like entering since I thought I had a lot on my plate. But I pushed those out of the way and decided to make one anyways, and I am so happy how this turned out. I was struggling to find a theme to begin with, and then remembered this godlike theme - but didn't feel like my usual style would work. So I decided to write a prog-metal arrangement, and wrote a guitar part before even finding a guitarist. I asked around on Twitter for a few days, and then Ian (also a fellow ZSS main, he has good taste) messaged me showing interest - and boy, did he do a fantastic job. This piece was extremely fun to work with, even if it was outside my comfort zone a bit. Couple this with Dave Clumsy's amazing feedback/critique (bless him), I am so happy with how this turned out and hope you enjoy!

"Magma Cavern" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team is originally composed by Arata Iiyoshi and Atsuhiro Ishizuna. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm proud to present my largest solo project to date, Magma Cavern from PMD Red/Blue Rescue Team! This is an entry for the November 2020 Pixel Mixers (/r/VGCovers) contest, which happens to be Pokemon themed! I actually started this arrangement concept all the way back in July or so, but left it on hold for a few months. When the contest was announced, I figured now would be the best time to get back to it. I have unleashed one of the newest percussion instruments in my arsenal this cover, using the bongos which I bought only a few weeks ago. This arrangement was really fun to work with, and I'm especially proud of how well the Afro-Cuban middle section worked, along with the drumset-bongo battle coming out of it. Mixing-wise it's not perfect (which is a given), but I'm still happy with how everything went. I hope you enjoy my cover of Magma Cavern!

"Where We Used to Be" from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm here with a short "embellished" piano cover - which basically means solo piano plus atmospheric percussion added for flavor. I recently got into the Xenoblade series this past year, and it is probably the best franchise I've ever played (only rivaled by PMD for me). Anyways, I've been practicing this arrangement since September, and this is the first piece in a while that has forced me to actually sit down and practice on a day-to-day basis, which I'm happy to get back into. Also coincidentally, this month's Pixel Mixers (/r/VGCovers) contest is any piece of music written by Yasunori Mitsuda, and lo and behold, many of the XC2 tracks are written by him including this one. I have to give a special thanks to my good friend Dave Clumsy for lending me his *absolutely beautiful* piano libraries, which I sent him the MIDI and he gave me back a gorgeous sounding piano part. I originally intended on this being for solo piano, but I felt like small bits of auxiliary percussion could add just a little more flavor; I consider auxiliary percussion to be the "salt and pepper" of music. Overall I'm really happy with how this turned out and hope you enjoy!

"Theme of Zangief" from Super Street Fighter IV is originally composed by Hideyuki Fukasawa. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm here with my favorite cover yet, this time covering Zangief's Theme from Super Street Fighter IV! I am honored to work with two of my good friends Zach V. (Alto Sax) and mutton, both of whom I know through high school and college respectively. This is my submission for the /r/VGCovers (Pixel Mixers) monthly challenge, which so happens to be Fighting Games. I'm not very familiar with traditional fighters, but I sent a message to my friend asking for suggestions, and he gave this theme and I fell in love immediately. This was super fun to arrange and cover, and I even got a chance to cosplay for the first time - the whole outfit was only $12 at Goodwill, so I consider that a win. I also opened up clapping to the public, which was really fun. This cover was also the worst video editing experience of my life, since I ran into crashing and corruption issues for hours on end. Thankfully schneidersouza (of the PM Discord) gave me some tips and I was able to finish this. Overall this project has been tremendously fun and I'm so proud to share it!

"Menu 1" from Super Smash Bros. Melee is originally composed by Hirokazu Ando. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm here with a short little cover. I originally conceptualized this arrangement back in March coming back from VGM Con 2020 (highly recommend this convention by the way), where we played the Menu 1 theme in the jam space, and afterwards I thought "huh, maybe this could work in a lo-fi setting." Lo and behold 5 months later, I've finally gotten around to performing it, after adapting the VGLeadSheets version we played at VGM Con. I'm in a new setting, because I just moved to Utah 2 weeks ago for an internship (and I'm so glad I'm not at school right now, it sounds like hell from what my friends are saying). I also tried something new - sampling my own drumset. Because I was moving out of state, I decided to sample each of my drums, and use them for future projects. This way I maintain "my" sound, but will still have better quality overall (especially since my drumset playing skills are mediocre at best, on top of only being able to use one microphone). Overall this project was pretty fun to work with, and I hope you enjoy.

"Soaring Illusions" from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire is originally composed by Shota Kageyama. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, I'm here with another surprise cover, this time for Pokemon ORAS' Soaring Illusions. This cover was written for a GameGrooves community album for charity for the BLM protests that are ongoing. Unfortunately, my submission was cut from the final album (due to the sheer number of covers they received, they had to cut quite a few), but still encouraged us to release our tracks individually. I live only 30 minutes east of Minneapolis, so this movement hits especially close to home. I felt like this piece had some sort of melancholic feel to it, but also a feeling of hope that things will change for the better, which was why I selected it for the album (along with the fact that my previous two song choices were non-licenseable... hooray for legal stuff). I had a lot of fun covering this track, especially using the dampened percussion (pillowcases and blankets, let's go!) and wineglass for the first time (and I spilled some water on me while tuning them haha). Zach was also kind enough to lend me some flugelhorn playing, and I'm glad he could participate. Overall I'm pleased with how this turned out, and I hope everyone enjoys.

Hey everyone, I'm back with a huge project, and featuring special guest Ryan Briggs! Ryan is a good friend of mine, the co-founder of our college's video game jazz ensemble, and an amazing multi-instrumentalist, so we decided to work on this project together, as well as submit it to the #SoundoleChillOut2020 contest (which was a nice coincidence). Ryan was gracious enough to do all the video production and editing for this video (and he did a much better job than I could've done, haha), so I thank him for that. This piece was really fun to both arrange and cover, especially experimenting with the makeshift percussion (since I recorded some of these tracks in my college residence... where I don't have access to many instruments). I also took a music mixing class for the first half of the semester (...and I proceeded to drop out right before the COVID pandemic happened because it came to be too much work), but it helped me get a solid fundamental understanding of audio production, and I'm hoping that everyone will recognize that (especially compared to my previous large-scale covers). Overall I'm very satisfied with this project, and we hope that you enjoy this cover!

So I decided to enter a challenge posted by GameGrooves, where we had to write and cover a single-instrument arrangement of a game soundtrack in 24 hours, so I decided to enter (twitter.com/GameGrooves/status/1258062899010027520). I settled on Northern Desert from PMD2 because I thought it would be simple enough to learn in one day, while still being from a game I love. Could this cover use some work? Absolutely, but for only one day, I'll call it a win. I hope you enjoy my cover and arrangement of Northern Desert.

No PDF download for this one, sorry.
Hey everyone, and I'm here with another original composition. This is the final project for my Music Composition 2 class, and we were responsible for writing a piece to a video clip of our choice. She had a few clips selected, but none of them "resonated" with me so I looked elsewhere and found this clip - thankfully my instructor approved. Normally the final project for this class is writing for our schools orchestra... but COVID threw everything sideways. So instead we're writing for a mixed ensemble of various musicians my instructor found (a good chunk of which are professionals, which is awesome) - and they're recording and multi-tracking everything.
"Rainbow Reignition" has a double meaning for the film scene. The rainbow is represented both by Ho-oh (Ash's goal in this movie) and the restoration of color as Ash returns to the world. The piece starts off slow, mysteriously, and emotionally, and gradually kicks in as Ash makes his journey back to Pikachu, and has a strong finish by summoning Ho-oh. I'm pretty happy with how this piece went for the most part (minus a few things at the end, but that was mostly a result of burnout and "I need to get it done" syndrome) - and I'm especially proud of the middle section and the transition. Overall, I hope you enjoy my piece, I've spent the last month or so working on this and I'm happy to finally announce it.

Hey everyone, here's a fun catchy arrangement for one of BW's tunes that tends to go under the radar. This was the most fun piece I've worked on in quite some time, because I made lots of creative adjustments with the Latin percussion elements, something that I love doing. I don't have many updates past that, and simply hope you enjoy this simple yet grooving piece.

Hey everyone, it's been a while. I'm sorry I haven't uploaded recently, mainly because of classes, Smash, and PMD (mostly classes unfortunately). I wrote this arrangement a while back and have been practicing it on and off, and I finally took some time to record and mix it. I also took a bit of audio production and mixing at school, so hopefully that has paid off. Just a short arrangement for now, and I'll hopefully get the ball rolling more and more.

Hey everyone, happy new year! I'm starting off 2020 with a fun arrangement of Amp Plains, which is my favorite track from PMD2! Since my first playthrough of PMD2 I've fallen in love with the funky melody and bassline, and wanted to stay close to the original here. I originally planned on covering this live (back in like 2017 or something - way long ago), and wanted to feature Clarinet - because I felt like it captured the melody line really nicely.
This was also the first time I've "combined" two arrangements into one - the first being a simpler and more classical approach with just clarinet and piano, but then decided to switch the second time to a modern/funk band, which I think turned out super nicely.

This is my final project for my Music Composition 1 class in university - and I was proud enough of it to post it here. Our assignment was to write a trio for Violin, Clarinet, and Piano - and at first glance you're probably thinking the same thing as me - "what kind of combination is that?!" However, as I worked more on it, I began to appreciate the combination more, since all three of this instruments have certain aspects that complement each other. The violin's absurd high range, the clarinet's beautiful low register, the piano's flashiness, etc.
The title "Zodiac Abridged" comes from another project that I'm working on, which is centered around the Chinese Zodiacs, and this is a condensed version of it, hence "Abridged." This piece is meant to be cinematic, with lots of sweet emotional moments and extreme high points. Overall I'm super satisfied with the way this turned out and hope that you enjoy my first major original composition.

Wow. It's been a while. Sorry for the long wait between uploads - my computer was broken for the entire month of October, so I had to buy a new one - luckily my hard drives are still fine so I have all the projects I've worked on for the past few months. Anyways - Sword and Shield was a GREAT game. Yes it has drama with Dexit and stuff like that, but I went in for just a chill and casual playthrough, and I enjoyed all of it. As per tradition of Pokemon games, the soundtrack is still phenomenal. This time I settled with Stow on Side, which at first seems like an unusual choice. After all, I kind of overlooked it at first glance too. But looking back I found lots of intriguing things about it, notably its unique instrumentation and similarities with Mystery Dungeon. Acoustic bass is always a pleasure to work with, and I've never worked with other instruments like Mandolin and Harpsichord like this before. And of course, I'm a sucker for unusual percussion, with Guiro being the primary rhythm instrument here. Overall I hope you enjoy this short arrangement - I hope it was worth the (involuntary) wait.

Hey everyone, here's a nice and simple arrangement of DPPt's earliest route theme, Route 201! Sinnoh has a beautiful assortment of route themes, and showcases it right at the beginning of the region too! I got in the mood for something nice and easy going, and this was the first piece that came to mind. The oboe part is mostly added by me, just some simple sustained notes to provide a nice chord for the rest of the piece.
Also, some news (good or bad depends on how you take it). As of today, I have purchased Sibelius Ultimate - which is an industry standard notation software. The advantages of using it include utilizing far more tools that MuseScore simply does have, as well as higher quality (but still "okay" at best soundfonts). However, since Sibelius is a paid program, that means most arrangements from here on out will have Sibelius download files rather than MuseScore - which may not be as easily accessible. Don't worry, PDFs aren't going anywhere. I'll continue to produce the arrangements and sheet music that I love writing. Regardless of your view on this situation, I thank you for listening and hope you enjoyed it.

Hey everyone - here's another arrangement from RSE (I've been doing a lot of these lately - could be because I'm a gen 3 kid at heart) - and this time it's from the swinging island of Sootopolis City. I've been wanting to do this one for quite some time - and I went with percussion because I loved the rolling xylophone parts in the second phrase. Had my first day of classes today, so I don't know how much time I'll have to keep producing more arrangements, but we'll see. Hope you enjoyed listening to this though!

Hey everyone, sorry for the long wait - I've been busy with lots of stuff but I felt like uploading this short little piece to hold you guys over. I've always thought the gym interior themes were underrated, simply because the gym leader theme typically overshadows them, but I decided to write a short piano solo for RSE's gym theme, which is strong and majestic. I don't have much to say past other than this was fun to work on, a nice and simple change of pace. Hope you enjoy it.
Edit: Since people have asked, the small notes at 0:23 are there just for listening purposes; I am aware that it is not reasonable to play them with only 2 hands, but I included them because they sound more full when played by a computer. Hopefully that clears some confusion up.

Hey everyone, sorry for the long wait. I'm back with a short and sweet little arrangement that I whipped up in a day - and this time with live playing. For some reason, over the past week this particular soundtrack has been stuck in my head, and I knew it was calling me to perform it.
I chose a percussion trio because of my instrument bias, but I don't have the right set up to actually record real instruments (because that requires planning and room reservations), so I used my keyboard - this time with direct audio recording! I can't believe I even tried recording with a microphone - now I don't have to worry about background noise and I can therefore play as expressive as I want - as seen here. I hope you enjoy my arrangement of GSC's Viridian Forest.
