Then I took the extended Fire 32 course.--In the extended course they taught us the techniques used to create something called "Fire Breaks". This is a staple of fire fighting in the forest because what it does is it creates a gap in the fuels needed by the fire to spread. Ruby Ridge Documentary - American Standoff - Retro Report - The New York Times RadioRaider 2019-03-12 | This video is uploaded under fair use and was listed in the Creative Commons section of YouTube.Ruby Ridge was the name of a plot of land near Naples, Idaho where an 11-day siege occurred between Randy Weaver, 5 other members of his family, and family friend Kevin Harris. The siege began on August 21, 1992 after Randy had essentially been entrapped in a a small arms deal gone bad. The United States Marshall Service along with the FBI basically surrounded Weaver's property with personnel and a heavy military presence including sharp shooters.Even the family wasn't really hostile toward the feds, the feds seemed to be trying to pick them off one by one. They started with 14-year-old Samuel Weaver. When the boy's dog gave away the feds' presence on the property, a U.S. Marshall shot the dog. This invoked Sam to take defensive action not knowing who was on the property.In the resulting shootout, Sam was killed along with a Deputy U.S. Marshall. In spite of tremendous outrage from the surrounding community, the feds continued their siege with gusto after these initial deaths occurred.Before they were finished, they claimed the life of Randy Weaver's wife and family matriarch as she held their 10-month-old daughter Elisheba via sniper fire.After Randy and Kevin Harris were badly injured as well, the siege finally came to an end on August 31. The only charge they could conjure up for Randy Weaver was a failure to appear for which he served 6 months in jail.
