And sometimes those risks pay dividends. But other times, those risks are liabilities. I bought the most expensive wood I have ever purchased, and resultantly ended up bringing powder post beetle into super secret wood room. The first and smallest piece of this "master grade" (cringe) quilted, big leaf maple from Vancouver Island only had modest signs of the beetle, a couple of pinholes on live edge off the slab, and it is with this small 24" long piece that I began the endeavour of designing an instrument that would maximize the potential of the wood. This ended up being a 16" scale length 4 string Mandola, with an additional 4 sub-bass harp strings for sympathetics and whatever else you'd like to use them for (I think perhaps slide might work) The piece was 90% completed when I decided to start diversifying my income and task stream with this very YouTube channel. And so the mandola got slipped into a drawer to be all but forgotten for almost two years, but now, in my series The Final Mile. I get an opportunity to hone and perfect the design and playability while also serving the almighty algorithm. This was supposed to be a light, easy filler project to feed the algorithm whilst I deal with the infinite $hit$how that is my life right now. Everything IRL is going absolutely haywire and so I was like...HMMM...how about I just compile a simple slideshow of all the old photos I have saved for no good reason over the years...BUT ALAS! My editing software EFFED UP royally on the first 3 attempts, causing me to start all over again at which point my eyes could no longer even recognize what photo was what and whether it was already in the video 1 or 5000000000 times, so if there are repeats, goodness me I am sorry but I JUST CAN'T anymore with this crap. This dumbass slideshow could well end up being algorithmic self-death, harikari, if you will, the final nail in the coffin of my brief YouTube career. Gosh DANG I hope not.
