South Koreas oldest nuclear reactor has shut down automatically today due to safety reasons, putting further strain on the countrys government to resolve the pending electricity supply crisis.

Of the 105 accidents and technical problems that occurred at South Korean nuclear power plants between 2000 and last month, thirty-nine, or 37%, occurred at Korean-standard reactors. The percentage is especially high given that nine of them have gone online since the first one built, Uljin No. 3, went into operation in 1998.
Seoul National University nuclear engineering professor Hwang Il-soon cautioned against reading too much into the numbers. "There's no obvious correlation between the Korean-model designs and the frequency of problems, and there tend to be more problems early in their operation anyway," he said.
"The problem seems to be more that the plant operations have lost trust than that the actual risk is greater," he added.
Indeed, sixty-two of the 86 problems reported between 2002 and 2011, or 72%, were determined to be the result of "human error".

South Korea's nuclear sector has been dogged by a series of malfunctions, forced shutdowns and corruption scandals that have undermined public confidence already shaken by the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan.
In May last year, five senior officials of the state-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. were charged with trying to cover up a potentially dangerous power failure at the country's oldest Gori-1 reactor.
Despite increasing public concern, the government has vowed to push ahead with its nuclear power programme, and plans to build an additional 16 reactors by 2030:

He found elevated levels of radioactive thorium 232 and cerium (proving that the thorium was man-made) in the tissues of 15 of 18 bodies of Quirra-area shepherds who died because of cancer.
On March 24, 2012 Fiordalisi indicted twenty people on charges of "willful omission of precautions against injury and aggravated disasters or because they falsely certified the absence of pollution with the aim to "hide the environmental disaster." The documents from Fiordalisi's investigation have now been turned over to a tribunal for prosecution in the last year. This interview was made in the end of November 2014.

Chi è Daniele Rovai:
Daniele Rovai nasce a Firenze il 2 luglio1964. Dopo gli studi liceali frequenta un corso di formazione professionale gestito dalla Regione Toscana per diventare grafico pubblicitario. Dal 1989 al 2005 lavora come grafico per fotolito, tipografie, studi grafici, case editrici ed agenzia pubblicitarie. Nel 2006 l'agenzia pubblicitaria dove lavorava da tre anni chiude per problemi economici. Per la prima volta disoccupato scopre la passione per il giornalismo investigativo. Inizia a scrivere articoli e reportage per siti e giornali on-line e cartacei sulle tematiche ambientaliste e nucleari, un tema, quest'ultimo, che lo ha sempre affascinato.
Nel 2009 realizza un'inchiesta sulla gestione delle scorie radioattive ereditate dalla stagione nucleare degli anni '70, dal titolo "Sogin: un'esperienza allarmante". L'inchiesta viene pubblicata dalla casa editrice UTET all'interno del saggio "Il Nucleare impossibile" curato dal professor Virginio Bettini dello IUAV di Venezia. Nel 2011 un suo reportage, firmato insieme al giornalista Vincenzo Mulè per la rivista IL PUNTO, sulla scoperta di bidoni bucati di scorie radioattive stoccati nella centrale nucleare di Caorso, provoca l'apertura di un indagine da parte della Procura di Piacenza. Ad agosto del 2012 dopo aver letto un articolo su La Nazione, cronaca di Prato -- la città dove abita -- su uno sciopero al cantiere dove si sta costruendo il nuovo ospedale, scopre che gli operai che scioperano per il mancato pagamento dello stipendio sono i dipendenti dell'azienda che ha il sub appalto più importante. Inizia una ricerca che si trasforma ben presto in un'inchiesta su una delle opere edili più importanti e costose della Regione Toscana: la costruzione in finanza di progetto di 4 nuovi ospedali; un'operazione che tra costruzione, arredi e gestione muove finanziamenti pubblici e privati per quasi 2 miliardi di euro. Inchiesta che nel novembre del 2013 viene pubblicata dalla Casa Editrice Edizioni Andromeda. Dal luglio 2013 lavora come operaio per una lavanderia industriale pratese.

☢ The Queen ignored millions of sensible people who protested against the building of her Mixed Oxide (Mox) nuclear fuel plant at Sellafied. Public opinion was brushed aside by Her Majesty's
loyal lackey's in Parliament who stated that Mox would make money for the taxpayer. Thus far Mox has cost the taxpayer over £1 BILLION.

Taxpayers were told Mox would produce and sell 120 tons of fuel rods per year. However, a long running investigation by The Independent recently revealed Mox has sold only 6.3 tons of fuel since it opened in 2001!

The Mox plant has never once run smoothly. For eight years Ministers of the Crown denied there was a serious problem.
The plant's losses were kept secret until Ex Environment Minister Michael Meacher used a written question to wheedle out the facts and figures. Mr Meacher is now calling for a public inquiry into this latest waste of public funds at the Sellafield complex.

Mr Meacher said: "This waste of taxpayer's money is unforgivable. There should be a public inquiry into this scandal and those responsible should be held to account." Mr Meacher had tried to stop Mox being built and as a result was sacked from Her Majesty's
Government.

Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes stated. "The Mox plant has proved yet another nuclear black hole for taxpayers' money. Building a new generation of nuclear power stations is throwing billions of pounds of good money after bad. They are never built on time or on budget and they will not solve the UK's energy needs."

Nathan Argent of Greenpeace said. "This is a staggering waste of taxpayers' money, and we doubt that these will be the full costs of this sorry saga. Just imagine what the safe energy sector could have
done with a billion pound plus subsidy like that."

Jan. 2014 - TEPCO PROBES RADIOACTIVE LEAK [NHK]

The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says water leaking in the number 3 reactor building is most likely to have come from the containment vessel.

Tokyo Electric Power Company discovered the water flow on the first floor of the reactor building on Saturday.
The stream is about 30 centimeters wide and continuously pours into a drain.

An investigation showed the water contains nearly as high a level of radioactive materials as the contaminated water accumulating in the building's basement.

TEPCO says it detected 24 million becquerels per liter of beta ray-emitting radioactive substances, including strontium, as well as 1.7 million becquerels per liter of Cesium 137.

The water temperature is approximately 20 degrees Celsius. That is almost the same temperature as the water at the bottom of the reactor.

TEPCO officials suspect the water for cooling melted fuel in the containment vessel is leaking for some unknown reason.

They say they will continue their investigation to understand the condition of the melted fuel, as well as that of the containment vessel in their effort to find out how and where the water is leaking.

Justo el día en el que oficialmente se cerraba Garoña, el 6 de julio, Televisión Española emitió un reportaje dentro del Telediario sobre la historia de la central nuclear, propiedad de la empresas Endesa e Iberdrola. Con imágenes de su imponente archivo, TVE ilustró los 42 años de vida de la instalación con un vídeo de la época en el que aparecía Franco inaugurando la planta de Santa María de Garoña. Mientra el locutor que relataba la noticia hace cuatro décadas se refería a Franco como "su excelencia el jefe del Estado", el Telediario de 2013 le recordaba como "el caudillo", una denominación propia de los tiempos de la dictadura.

THE MONJU NUCLEAR ACCIDENT

Il fiore invece è appassito presto, dal momento che nel 1995, appena un anno dopo la sua inaugurazione,
un grave INCIDENTE perdita di Sodio ne ha imposto la chiusura per oltre 14 anni.

Le immagini di questo Documento sono tratte da un video che documenta l'incidente (l'uomo protetto da una tuta cammina su uno spesso strato di "neve" di sodio, formatasi dalla solidificazione del sodio liquido e/o vapore).
Il Sodio liquido bollente usato come liquido refrigerante è d'altra parte "una brutta bestia" perchè è altamente corrosivo.

Il reattore avrebbe dovuto tornare in funzione nel 2008, ma, al tempo, sono stati scoperti fori da corrosione in un condotto di ventilazione.

D'Altra parte abbiamo a che fare con la piu' colabrodesca delle tecnologie: questo la mafia assassina, criminale e stragista delle organizzazioni ufficiali delle imprese non lo dicono.

Come si scrive l'Asahi Shimbun è la quarta volta che viene posposta la riapertura della centrale..

Il giornale è soprattutto preoccupato per la scarsa trasparenza nella gestione della centrale: scarsa manutenzione, rapporti di sicurezza falsificati, emergenze tenute segrete.

In Giappone, anche alla luce di altri incidenti piu' gravi avvenuti in altri impianti nella stessa regione..., si chiedono se sia davvero il caso di riattivare il mostro dormiente che finora è costato una valanga di miliardi alla collettività giapponese senza alcun beneficio tangibile e dove tutti i tentativi di riattivazione nell'arco di 16 anni (almeno 4) sono FALLITI.

SINN FÉIN MEP Bairbre de Brún has said that the EU must seek a legally binding deal at the UN Climate Change summit in Copenhagen.

Speaking on Wednesday, 25 November de Brún said:
"The European Parliament clearly stated today that EU negotiators must seek a legally binding deal in Copenhagen.

"The European Parliament vote confirms that the EU must commit to at least €30 billion per year in climate funding to developing countries by 2020 in addition to overseas development aid.
Moreover proactive adaptation actions in the most vulnerable regions should have priority.

"These are matters I wish to stress when in Copenhagen as part of the official European Parliament delegation to the UN climate summit.

"We also asked the EU to clarify under what conditions it will strengthen its emissions targets to 40% by 2020 in keeping with the latest science.

"Unfortunately, the resolution acknowledges that nuclear energy will be part of the energy mix in the medium term.
We cannot allow the nuclear lobby to be the winners in Copenhagen.

"The resolution also remains at the 80% emissions reduction level by 2050 compared to 1990 levels. This underlines the need for a Copenhagen deal that allows targets to be strengthened to keep pace with the latest science.

"We must develop new cleaner technologies and ensure climate justice so that developing countries are really supported in their mitigation and adaptation policies."
