Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will be added to your library with the Bundle purchase and will be available to play as soon as they are released.
Both titles are planned to be released within 2024.
The original 1996 version of Resident Evil is now available to buy on GOG.
Although it was ported to PC in 1997, the original Resident Evil has not been not widely available for purchase on modern PC storefronts. On Steam, currently none of the original Resident Evil games are available to buy.
However, that 1997 PC port – as opposed to the remake which was originally released on GameCube before being ported to HD platforms – can now be purchased from the GOG store, priced at £8.99 / $9.99.
GOG says it will also be bringing the original PC versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 to the store later this year.
Players who intend to buy all three can purchase a bundle for £20.99 / $24.99. This makes the original Resident Evil available now, and makes the second and third games available once they’re released.
The new GOG release of Resident Evil is based on the 1997 PC port of the game, but has been updated to ensure full compatibility with Windows 10 and 11.
The game includes new rendering options and various modern fixes such as improved cutscene timing, an improved video player, an improved DirectX game renderer and issue-free game exit.
It also offers full support for modern controllers, including Xbox Series, Xbox One, Xbox 360, DualSense, DualShock 4, Switch, Logitech F series and more.
Each title offers different language support. For all the details, please refer to their individual product pages. Your Special Tactics and Rescue Squad has been choppered to a remote mansion to investigate a biotechnical experiment gone hideously wrong. Before you can say “mass murder,” you’re plunged straight into a deathtrap writhing with man-eating freaks, swarming crows and rabid dogs.
Arm yourself with knives and flame-throwers scavenged from dead teammates. Solve puzzles, disarm traps and unearth mysteries. But beware: every move you make draws you deeper into the deadly embrace of Resident Evil.

As first reported by IGN, Turtle Beach has dropped Dr Disrespect. The headset maker quietly deleted all mentions of the streamer on its website, including the $200 Dr Disrespect branded merch.
It comes as a Bloomberg report corroborates allegations he sexted a minor on Twitch. Dr Disrespect confirmed he sent messages to a minor on Twitch which allegedly led to his ban. This video DreamcastGuy looks at DrDisrespect's new reply and why his response to the drama and twitch ban are so awful. Two insiders have claimed that PlayStation is reportedly working on PS3 emulation for the PlayStation 5.
That’s according to XboxEra’s Nick Baker and Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who have both claimed that PlayStation is working on PS3 emulation for the PlayStation 5.
The first report of the rumor came from Nick Baker, who claimed that “Sony is working on select PlayStation 3 backward compatibility.” Unfortunately, Baker doesn’t provide any other details and has seemingly covered all his bases using the term ‘select,’ which could mean one game or all of them.
However, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb took to his podcast to also cover the news and add a little more input on what he’s heard. “It’s something I’ve heard has been in the works for quite some time; I thought it was going to get revealed earlier this year when I first heard about it, but that clearly didn’t happen. That doesn’t mean it will never happen; maybe it does,” he said. Unfortunately, Grubb’s input is also pretty vague and doesn’t necessarily confirm that this could ever be released, but as always, with smoke, there’s fire.
Do you think PlayStation is working on PS3 emulation for the PlayStation 5?

Last Friday, a former Twitch employee sent the gaming and streaming world into a frenzy by apparently revealing the reason popular streamer Guy Beahm, known by most as Dr Disrespect, was mysteriously banned from the platform in 2020. Now, the game studio Beahm co-founded, Midnight Society, says it has terminated its relationship with him, effective immediately, in the wake of the allegation that Beahm was banned from Twitch for his messages to someone. Midnight Society announced the news with a post on X/Twitter on Monday, saying they "assumed" Beahm's innocence and "began speaking with parties involved. And in order to maintain our principles and standards as a studio and individuals, we needed to act."
"While these facts are difficult to hear and even more difficult to accept, it is our duty to act with dignity on behalf of all individuals involved, especially the fifty-five developers and families we have employed along with our community of players," the statement, which you can read in full below, continues.

Xbox's Matt Booty has spoken more on the closure of Tango Gameworks earlier this year, and, while he did not name names, it appears that a change in leadership at the Hi-Fi Rush studio was a factor in Microsoft's decision.
In conversation with Variety's Strictly Business podcast, the Xbox executive was asked about the closure of Tango Gameworks, and whether Microsoft had tried to seek another buyer for the studio. "I won't get into the real sort of nitty gritty details on you know, what went into the decision, mostly out of respect for the people there, just because you know, there was a lot of work that went into delivering Hi-Fi Rush, which was a great game and you know did well for us," Booty began.
"I think the thing to be considered is that for us, it's as much a forward looking situation as much as it is looking back at one certain game... There are a lot of things that go into success for a game. You know, what leadership do you have? What creative leadership do you have? Is the team the same team that shipped something successful previously?
"And we have to look at all of those things together and then ask ourselves, are we set up for success going forward? And while there may have been factors and situations that previously led to success, they may not all still be in place as you look at what you're doing going forward."
Booty seemed to be referring - at least in part - to the departure of Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami last year. Mikami established Tango Gameworks in 2010, with the studio going on to develop The Evil Within series and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Prior to this, he worked at Capcom on the Resident Evil series.

MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is coming exclusively not on Xbox. In this video DreamcastGuy talks about the state of Xbox and how game developers are skipping the console porting games because of Xbox Game Pass effecting sales according to SkillUp on the Friends Per Second podcast. Recently we got news that Black Myth Wukong was delayed on the Xbox because the Xbox Series X can handle it but Xbox Series S is having trouble running it. Some games are totally skipping the console like Lego Horizon Adventures and Trails Through Daybreak.

As promised, the latest Nintendo Direct took place on June 18th, and the focus was on games for the second half of the year. That’s a good thing — aside from a Luigi’s Mansion 2 remake and a game about speedrunning, the lineup of upcoming Switch titles had been very quiet.
Now that the Direct is over, we have a better picture of Nintendo’s next slate of games. There will be a lot to play while we wait for the Switch 2, including a Zelda-led adventure in September, a new Mario Party in October, new Mario & Luigi RPG in November, an HD version of Donkey Kong Country Returns in January. Nintendo finally shared the first look at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but that game won’t come out until an unspecified time in 2025. There were some great third-party reveals as well, including a November release date for Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake and an Ace Attorney Investigations collection.
You can check out all of the important reveals and trailers right here.

It hasn't even been a full year since Insomniac released Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5, but leaks for a potential Marvel's Spider-Man 3 title have allegedly surfaced. These leaks reportedly come from the expansive Insomniac leak that occurred in December. That leak was the result of a ransomware group hacking Insomniac and unleashing 1.6 terabytes of development plans, employee data and more. Among those files was key information on Insomniac's Wolverine game, including plot details and gameplay, as well as future projects through 2032. Now, it appears that an early build of a potential Spider-Man 3 is now part of that information dump. The build allegedly comes from the same group of modders that took a Spider-Man 2 dev build and ported it over to PC. That build made the entire Spider-Man 2 game, which is currently exclusive to PS5, playable on a PC.
Taking to Twitter, two screenshots of an alleged Spider-Man 3 build were posted on Friday. The two screenshots showcase what appears to be Cindy Moon's Silk swinging through Central Park. The character's costume lines up with Silk's real-life comic book outfit, though it's impossible to say if this is simply a mod or an actual build.

Hidetaka Miyazaki 'knows for a fact' other FromSoftware devs want a Bloodborne PC port: 'If I say I want one, I'll get in trouble, but it's nothing I'm opposed to'
"Obviously, as one of the creators of Bloodborne, my personal, pure honest opinion is I'd love more players to be able to enjoy it. Especially as a game that is now coming of age, one of those games of the past that gets lost on older hardware—I think any game like that, it'd be nice to have an opportunity for more players to be able to experience that and relive this relic of the past. So as far as I'm concerned, that's definitely not something I'd be opposed to."

In recent years, we’ve partnered with Discord to introduce more ways for players to connect with their friends and communities across Discord and the PS5 console. Since we first introduced Discord voice chat on PS5, players have joined a Discord voice chat on PS5 more than 290 million times to hang out with friends in Discord voice channels while gaming. Easier access to Discord voice chat will roll out gradually over the coming weeks. How to join Discord voice chat on PS5
To start, select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join. Then, select your preferred voice channel. This will reveal more details, such as who is already in the channel chatting. You’ll also receive a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls you, allowing you to join right away.
Today, we’re pleased to share that we’re starting to roll out the ability for PS5 players to join Discord voice chat directly from the PS5 console, without relying on the Discord PC or mobile apps to initiate the connection.

Several unannounced video games may have been leaked thanks to EpicDB. The new website is meant to be an equivalent to SteamDB, and posters on ResetEra have discovered that the pages for multiple publishers accidentally included codenames for unannounced projects. Several posters went to work investigating those codenames, and may have figured out some games. Sony's currently unconfirmed PC port of The Last of Us Part II seems to be listed under the codename "Utah" while a Turok game from Saber Interactive is mentioned. Epic Games Store releases for Red Dead Redemption and Final Fantasy XVI also seem to have been uncovered.
Final Fantasy IX Remake
Perhaps the biggest thing discovered in the EpicDB leak is further evidence for the Final Fantasy IX remake; the game seems to have been listed under the codename "Momo." While that name might seem unusual, ResetEra users discovered that Momo has a listing for something called a "Tetra Master Starter Pack." For those that never played Final Fantasy IX, Tetra Master is the name of a card based minigame that appeared in the original release.
At this point, Square Enix's remake of Final Fantasy IX is basically the worst kept secret in gaming, as its existence was revealed in a leak by NVIDIA several years ago, and there has been plenty of additional evidence for its existence since then. Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb said last year that the remake is "definitely real" and reliable leaker Midori stated just this month that development is "very far along."
Can We Trust These Leaks?
While this leak seems to be legitimate and backs up some of the things we've heard in the past, there are reasons to believe that not all of these games are actually happening. In fact, given how often projects are scrapped before they even get announced, some of these games might have been planned at one point and already cancelled.

Here’s some potentially huge news, unearthed by the eagle-eyed Gematsu: a new PS2 emulator appears to be imminent for PS5 and PS4. As many of you will already know, Sony has been gradually deploying PS1 and PSP titles on the PS Store as part of its PS Plus Premium subscription, with all releases boasting video filters, quick save, and rewind. PS2 Classics Catalogs added to PS+ Premium: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
Tomb Raider: Legend
STAR WARS The Clone Wars
Well, now a new PS Store listing for Star Wars: The Clone Wars suggests support may be expanding to the PS2, with the product listing confirming all of the aforementioned features for the Pandemic Studios developed 2002 outing. “This title has been converted from the PS2 version to the PS4 and PS5 consoles and provides newly added features,” the listing reads. The port’s due out on 11th June.
Sony did temporarily release a throng of PS2 titles on PS4, but the emulation was largely very poor and it lacked all of the additional features mentioned above. This sounds like it’s the start of a new initiative, which will hopefully see more classic titles converted to the Japanese giant’s modern consoles. Are there any games in particular you’d like to see emulated? Let us know below. The PlayStation 4/5 emulated version of Tomb Raider Legend came out today (it's running the PS2 ROM emulated) and it runs at 30fps and renders in 480p. Absolutely abysmal release for $30. Sly Cooper also came out and is 60fps.

Speaking to IGN's Ryan McCaffrey at IGN Live, Spencer briefly commented on the shock decision to shut Redfall developer Arkane Austin and Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks as part of sweeping layoffs affecting some 1,900 staff. Microsoft announced to staff in May that it would be closing Redfall maker Arkane Austin, Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks, and Alpha Dog Games, while Roundhouse Studios would be absorbed by ZeniMax Online Studios. The move led to shock and anger throughout the industry, especially considering one of Xbox's most successful recent exclusives, Hi-Fi Rush, was developed by Tango, a studio that was absorbed by Microsoft via its acquisition of parent company Zenimax in 2021.
"The closure of any team is hard obviously on the individuals there, hard on the team," Spencer said. "I haven't been talking publicly about this, because right now is the time for us to focus on the team and the individuals. It's obviously a decision that's very hard on them, and I want to make sure through severance and other things that we're doing the right thing for the individuals on the team. It's not about my PR, it's not about Xbox PR. It's about those teams.
"In the end, I've said over and over, I have to run a sustainable business inside the company and grow, and that means sometimes I have to make hard decisions that frankly are not decisions I love, but decisions that somebody needs to go make.
"We will continue to go forward. We will continue to invest in what we're trying to go do in Xbox and build the best business we can, which ensures we can continue to do shows like the one we just did."

The annual Xbox Showcase is here, and amidst several other big summer livestreams, all eyes are on Microsoft as it reveals what's next for its gaming division. The last couple of months have seen some big changes at Xbox, as several console-exclusive games have landed on new platforms like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush have landed on new platforms this year. We'll be covering the show live, and you can refresh this page regularly to see all the latest announcements.

Last month, Insider Gaming reported that a LEGO Horizon game is in development. Thanks to trademarks found by Twitter user Kurakasis, the name of the game was revealed as ‘LEGO Horizon Adventures’.
Insider Gaming can confirm that the game’s reveal is set for Summer Game Fest, during the main show on June 7.
Bilbill-kun also adds in his report that the game will be available on day one on both PlayStation 5 and PC, which is in line with PlayStation’s latest comments on releasing live-service games together on both platforms. According to the report, LEGO Horizons Adventures will also support Cross-Platform co-op mode and there will be two editions of the game available: a standard edition and a deluxe edition.
Prices, contents, and release date of the game and its editions are not yet available.

We're just days away from the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9 as part of the Summer Game Fest schedule. Along with the already-known excitement, Microsoft is reportedly also gearing up to reveal an Xbox handheld console and shadow drop something from its first-party line-up. As reported by well-known leaker eXtas1s on YouTube, Microsoft is preparing to reveal an Xbox handheld during the Xbox Games Showcase. The original report is in Spanish, but a Reddit user has translated eXtas1s' video, which says Microsoft will tease the "Xbox Portable" later this week. The report doesn't give us any more details than that, but a handheld Xbox console has been rumored for some time now. Back in March, Xbox boss Phil Spencer discussed his love for handheld systems, fueling the speculation even further.
Alongside that, eXstas1s also suggests that Microsoft plans to shadow-drop something from its first-party catalog during the show. We don't know what will be dropped yet, and likely won't until the Showcase, but it'll reportedly be something everyone is expecting to see from Xbox's upcoming line-up of games and DLC.

The rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake is reportedly in an advanced stage of development.
A well-known leaker claims the game had switched developers at some point in the past.
Square Enix is reportedly planning to treat the Final Fantasy 9 remake to a multi-platform release.
The rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake has faced some development difficulties, a well-known leaker has claimed. Despite one notable setback, the reimagining of Final Fantasy 9 is reportedly not in danger of cancellation, and is said to be progressing well.
While not officially confirmed, the game itself has been considered as one of Square Enix's worst-kept secrets for a while now. The first piece of evidence pointing to its existence dates back to summer 2021, when a Final Fantasy 9 remake was mentioned in the Nvidia GeForce Now leak, which has repeatedly been proven accurate. Multiple insiders have reaffirmed its existence ever since.

When PlayStation VR2 launched last year, we were thrilled to introduce PS5 players to a new generation of VR games with innovative gameplay and immersive sensory features. Inspired by our passion to bring gamers even more content options, we’ve been working to enable access to additional games on PC, complementing the diverse PS VR2 games lineup available on PS5. Today, we’re happy to share that we’ll be rolling out this support on August 7.
Players will have access to buy and play Steam’s expansive library of thousands of VR games, including fan favorites like Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, and War Thunder.
To start, players will need to purchase a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, which will be available for an estimated retail price of $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers and direct.playstation.com where available. Players will also need a commercially available DisplayPort cable (sold separately) that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, as well as a Steam account and a PC that meets the minimum requirements below.* PS VR2 was designed from the ground up specifically for PS5 – so you’ll notice that some key features, like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble), are not available when playing on PC. However, other high-fidelity and sensory immersion features of PS VR2 are supported, including 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, and see-through view, as well as foveated rendering (without eye tracking) and 3D Audio in supported games.***
While the most immersive way to experience PS VR2 gaming remains on PS5, we hope players will enjoy the ability to play an expanded lineup of VR games on PC using the same headset. You can check out Steam’s huge library of multiplayer open worlds, survival horror and stealth action games, sports sims, puzzlers, and free-to-play fan favorites on the Steam Store.
Additionally, as part of our Days of Play celebration, gamers in select regions can get $100 off PS VR2 and the PS VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle (for PS5) until June 12. Be sure to check direct.playstation.com (available in select markets) and participating local retailers, as offers and promotion dates may vary by region.

Immediately after a jam-packed PlayStation State of Play, Konami aired a Silent Hill Transmission livestream, where the publisher shared a slew of details on the multiple Silent Hills projects currently in development.
Although we did not get any details on Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall, fans were treated to new gameplay and pre-ordering details for Silent Hill 2 Remake, in addition to a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming horror film Return to Silent Hill.
Read below to learn more about everything Konami revealed during the Silent Hill Transmission livestream. Thirteen minutes of Silent Hill 2 gameplay revealed
Following an intro message from Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto, the digital showcase started with 13 minutes of gameplay for Silent Hill 2 Remake.
The gameplay showed off some of the early moments of Silent Hill 2, with protagonist James Sunderland walking around in the iconic, fog-ridden town. There is another glimpse of combat, with James shown fending off a Lying Figure in one snippet and killing a Bubble Head Nurse after he enters the eerie and poorly-lit hospital.
Konami also shared pre-order details for Silent Hill 2 Remake, including confirmation that those who order the Deluxe Edition can play the game as early as October 6. In addition to 48-hour early access, Silent Hill 2 Remake Deluxe Edition owners will receive the game's digital artbook, soundtrack, and some in-game cosmetics.
The Silent Hill Transmission also included a developer diary from Bloober Team, the studio taking point on the remake, in addition to some words from the Silent Hill 2 Remake cast, including Luke Roberts, who plays James Sunderland in the remake, Salome Gunnarsdottir, who plays James' deceased wife, Mary Shepherd-Sunderland, and Silent Hill 2 antagonist Maria.

Q&A with CEOs Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino on PC, costs and profits, mobile:
▪️PlayStation sees PC releases as opportunities for growth, not cannabilization
▪️Extend the reach and profit of franchises through multiplatform deliverability
▪️Looking at outsourcing more development to offset/mitigate growing costs
▪️Live service titles will be day and date on PC, but more strategic in tentpole single player titles
▪️Taking more measured approach to growing in mobile as opposed to PC, working with companies like NCSoft to expand further in mobile

You already know the situation: everyone is expecting Sony to wheel out a big PlayStation Showcase announcement ahead of Summer Game Fest and all the other gaming events in the summer. Why? Well, because it happened last year, and because it's been heavily rumoured for at least a couple of months. But right now, the speculation seems to be slipping out of control, because some PlayStation fans are convinced that the announcement's happening today.
The thinking behind this theory largely stems from timing. We're obviously fast approaching the last week of May 2024, and going by what happened roughly 12 months ago, Sony will want to host its presentation before the month is out. Again, Summer Game Fest is set for the 7th June, so if the Japanese giant's goal is to be ahead of the competition — just like in 2023 — then it'll have to announce something now.
2023's PlayStation Showcase was confirmed a week in advance, on the 17th May — a Wednesday, it should be stressed — before taking place on the 24th May. A new Astro Bot game expected to be announced within the next 15 days according to Dealabs/billbil-kun. Part of the game is set in a desert environment and one of the new characters is a "fennec fox in the form of a robot"

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II debuts with fewer players than Redfall and Hi-Fi RUSH on Steam
“Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II launched with a peak of 3982 concurrent users on the Valve platform. Although these are solid figures for a single-player experience and it's likely they will increase as we approach the weekend, they are below the record of 5653 simultaneous players achieved by Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice back in 2017.
To put these data into perspective, it's worth analyzing the statistics of other recent Xbox games. Hi-Fi RUSH, which also launched day 1 on Xbox Game Pass, reached a peak of 6132 concurrent users. On the other hand, the controversial Redfall is slightly behind with a record of 6124 active users.”

Insider Gaming understands that the next game in the DOOM franchise is set to be revealed during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. The game, which has been under the codename/placeholder title ‘Year Zero’ is understood to have the final name ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ and has been in development for at least four years.
Last year, I heard of early details of the next entry into the DOOM franchise, which was described to me as a ‘medieval inspired doom world’. While that doesn’t necessarily give much information to go on, ‘year zero’, ‘the dark ages’, and ‘medieval inspired’ starts to paint a vivid picture of where the series could be going next. Perhaps we’ll be taking more of an early look at the Doomslayer’s life during the medieval times? A prequel of sorts?

Neil Druckmann on Naughty Dog's new game: "I'm eager to see how this new game resonates, especially following the success of The Last of Us, as it could redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming."
The new game is "perhaps the most thrilling yet" Neil Druckmann says AI will reduce costs, 'revolutionize' development, and help 'push the boundaries of storytelling in games'
He adds there are ethical issues that need to be addressed and it's crucial to precisely direct these tools to achieve the intended outcomes.
Neil Druckmann:
“Many companies would insist on sticking to profitable franchises, but SIE's culture and philosophy empower us to pursue new ideas. Art requires risk. I'm incredibly thankful that SIE trusts us to leverage our past successes to explore brand new creative avenues”

The next Call of Duty, believed to be a Black Ops sequel set during the Gulf War, will be the first new entry in the popular online shooter to be on Xbox Game Pass. That’s according to a report by The Wall Street Journal today, which said the announcement will be made at Microsoft’s big annual Xbox Showcase in June.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as 2024's entry, made by Treyarch Studios, was previously reported by Insider Gaming. Microsoft teased an extended Direct for an unknown game directly after its June showcase, which fans quickly pieced together to be this year’s Call of Duty reveal. According to The Verge, Microsoft had until recently been debating whether to keep Call of Duty off Game Pass, or add it and increase the price of the service. It’s unclear if the new reporting by The Wall Street Journal means Game Pass will get another price hike in 2024, or if Call of Duty will be exclusive to certain tiers.
Microsoft didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Call of Duty costs hundreds of millions to make each year, and each year it sells tens of millions of copies. The cycle was so lucrative for publisher Activision that it slowly forced every studio it owned to contribute to making the hit series. When Microsoft finished its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year, whether Call of Duty would join Diablo 4 and other games on Game Pass was one of the big questions.

Activision has announced the formation of Elsewhere Entertainment, a new studio it says will focus on developing a "narrative-based and genre-defining AAA franchise."
Elsewhere Entertainment, which is based in Warsaw, is Activision's second Polish studio after the Krakow-based Infinity Ward Poland. The studio has been working behind the scenes up until now, and this is its first public unveiling. According to the blog post revealing the new studio, Elsewhere Entertainment's team includes "storytelling experts" who have previously worked on franchises including The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Destiny, The Division, and Far Cry. It is currently recruiting developers in hopes of creating a "state-of-the-art and next-generation gaming experience," which IGN understands is not a Call of Duty-related project.
Little else is known about Elsewhere Entertainment's first franchise, though the post does mention that the studio hopes to "craft a franchise with an enduring legacy that resonates far beyond games." That would seem to point to a transmedia franchise that will try to replicate the success of The Last of Us and Fallout, or maybe just get its own theme park.

PlayStation 5 sales hit a peak with 20.8 million units sold in the financial year ending March 31, 2024, Sony has announced. That’s more than any other financial year since the console went on sale in November 2020.
However, PS5 narrowly missed Sony’s sales target of 21 million, itself revised down from its initial, ultra aggressive sales target of 25 million. PS5 sold 4.5 million units in the fourth quarter of the financial year, down from 6.3 million during the same quarter the prior year. Sony has now said it expects PS5 sales to decline during the console’s fourth year on sale to 18 million units.
Sony, which just announced Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst as the new CEOs of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said it expects profits to rise 7% as the lower sales will mean smaller hardware losses, and it expects higher revenue from the PlayStation Plus subscription service. Countering this, however, is the expected negative impact of a decrease in sales of first-party titles. Sony has indicated no new games from its major franchises will be released during the current financial year, ruling out new titles in the Spider-Man and God of War franchises.
PlayStation FY2023 | Full Year + Q4 Results
▪️Annual revenue was up +17% to record $29.8B
▪️Software sales were up +24% at $14.1B
▪️4.5M PS5s sold in Q4 (-29% from PlayStation's all-time Q4 record of 6.3M the previous year)
▪️20.8M PS5s sold during FY23 (up +9% over FY22)
▪️It's a narrow miss on the revised 21M forecast, but a record year for PS5
▪️Lifetime PS5 sales are now at 59.3M, nearly equal to PS4 launch aligned (800K less)
▪️Profits rose, with operating income +$868M in Q4 (up +172% over Q4 FY22)
▪️Operating income was at +$2B in FY23 (+16% increase over FY22)
▪️118 million monthly active PSN users as of March 31, 2024 (up +9.25% over FY22)
▪️Forecasting 18M PS5 console sales for FY24, with higher operating profit (ending April 2025)
▪️They don't expect sales increase from first party in FY24, but do for FY25/26, meaning expect major first party titles to launch from April 2025 onwards
▪️Sony says they will invest the most into the Music segment, followed by PlayStation
▪️Sony Group has also set aside $11.5B for investment/acquisitions over next few years (read: for the company)
