In this tender moment we pause to look back at our beautiful planet and consider how we could take better care of each other and Mother Earth. 🌍 ❤️ This solo piano piece is like a soothing balm after the energy and excitement of the music which explores possibilities of another life on Mars.

This Christmas I am offering a personalised piano composition gift (recorded to studio quality) created to reflect the personality of a loved one or to inspire a quality or feeling they want to have more of in 2024.
If you’ve seen the film The Holiday… you might remember the scene where Jack Black writes a song for Iris (for which he used ‘only the good notes ❤️!) and the other theme tune was to inspire 90yr old film director Arthur to walk up the stairs with vigour!
This gift is a bit like that - have your own theme tune to inspire and what a special unique gift that someone will have to keep forever.
See ‘Experiential Gifts’ at www.liedownandlisten.com

Be immersed in the sound of ‘Inner Temple’ . Feel the vibrations through your body as you lie down and listen …
This performance for piano, electronic and nature soundscapes, with meditation guide is a 360’ immersive sonic journey of new and improvised music inspired by 12th century Priestess, plant medicine healer, eco-activist and sonic visionary Hildegard Von Bingen.
Hildegard’s vision and painting ‘The Universe’ influenced our music. It’s a vision of pure creation, the four elements and their meaning. The vision doesn’t deny the darkness, but leans right into the core of it, embracing its contrast with the light as an essential part in the process of creation.
Almost every electronic sound originates from the piano and even the soft rain sound is sourced from Bingen itself where Hildegard lived.
First performed at Kings Place, London in March 2023. During this live performance the sound was experienced in surround as a lying down concert moving through 50 speakers provided by D&B audio.
Performed by Christina McMaster on piano, Tom Middleton - electronic and nature soundscapes and Hildegard von Bingen expert David Cole as our meditative guide.
Here is the map of our sonic journey….
Part 1 Meditation for opening to a new vision
Part 1B Inside the Fire
Part 2 Purity
Part 2B “and I heard a heavenly voice speak to me”
Part 3 Cloud of secret mystery
Part 4 Divine Power
Part 5 Sereneness
Part 6 Brightness
Part 7 Soft Caressing Rain
Part 8 Antiphon of Divine Love
Inner Temple is generously supported by Help Musicians UK.
More performances coming soon for this - so keep an eye out.

Ligeti’s battle with Mother Nature burst into what then became ‘The Devil’s Staircase’ and the soundtrack of this hellish experience and a true test of endurance for the pianist who performs it!

Made up of patterns which serve as mantras which the performer chooses how long to hold for and in what combination between the hands.
This music is best listened to lying down!
My album Inner Landscape is available for pre order from this Friday. More on that soon… Meanwhile here’s a little clip of Erik Satie’s rarely played Ogive no.3 - a piece about changing perspectives.
This beautiful 6ft train (I’m underneath!) includes the words as written in Erik Satie’s music. Satie was ordained into the secret religion which promised access to altered states, so designer Barney McCann took inspiration from the Roisacrucian ‘cult’ - meaning Rose + Cross.

This piece was originally intended as a private meditation at the piano, made of improvised combinations and lengths of ‘cells’ Each time the piece is different. The aim with each cell is to find the groove so you become present and in an almost trance like state.
John Cage asked Riley to write it out so others could play and so Riley produced a beautiful spiral graphic score.

I love the bubbling left hand marked in a different tempo than the right hand. The melody is full of curiosity, anticipation and excitement.
