As always this is rendered in 3DSMax 2024.2, using VRay 6 GPU Optix. I'm using two 4090 RTX rigs, each doing half the frames. Render time averages were 1m08s to 2m05s at 110% 4K rez, with about 2-4s for post effects application per frame. 200 frames in total.
Post in After Effects, using Sapphire by BorisFX for the lens flares, and Red Giant Looks for the color correction.
It's a small ship with big responsibilities - Rescues, interdictions, customs, and immigration.
For those curious, the Bussard Collectors are between the Saucer halves, right in front of the bridge, it doesn't have a dedicated shuttle bay, and the saucer gap is used to hold/detain/rescue small runabout-scale craft. It's got two Cruiser-scale tractor beam emitters on either side to make sure no-one bails.
The change to a NGC registry is for "Guard" referencing the coast guard, since that's the role this guy fills. More littoral than the "deep-water" larger ships of the fleet. (This is also why it's a "Cutter" rather than "Starship")

She's designed as a Heavy Cruiser Testbed. In this configuration, she's trial-running the Type-1 phaser-strip prototype - other ships of the class received more standardized (at the time) phaser blisters, while testing different scales and layouts of warp drives.
She's chunky.

She's designed as a Fleet Tender, not Destroyer, with her Mission Pod and launch abilities tuned to the deployment and retrieval of charting probes, astrometric sensors, subspace repeaters and relays. The space devoted in the Abbe Class to torpedo storage is instead given over to a substantial quad-hinged-door mobile drydock capable of enclosing an entire subspace relay for construction, repair, or refit. She's a workhorse of the fleet, with long deployment times in quite rural parts of the Federation and its frontier.
I'm really happy with how this turned out - I am especially proud of the tropical-themed Arboretum. It took a while for this design to grow on me, as I'm not a fan of the old TMP "Fan" Star Trek designs, generally. They always felt far too "kitbashed" for my liking. I feel like we were able to make this one feel far more bespoke.

The materials, textures and animation are all mine, done in 3dsmax 2022, using VRay in Optix mode, rendering on a 3090 RTX and a 2x Titan RTX machine. Each frame was between 3:30 and 9:00 to render, and post and color correction was done in After Effects, using Red Giant Looks, Boris Sapphire Lens flares, and Optical Glows.

I think this is the best I'm going to get at this point, Phaser VFX-wise. Not as good as I want, still with problems, but likely probably only shit I notice.
With any luck, ChaosTeam will fix the issues of integration with VRay and Tyflow in GPU mode soon, and I can re-render as it should be! Fingers crossed. :D

Some of the warbird motion did not turn out as I had hoped, so I am adjusting - Also this is lacking all the weapons fire, some corrected shadow angles, and the ambient lighting is a touch too bright.
Also, the running lights are way too dim, and there's too much bounce light flickering around the impulse crystals. Imma fix next go round!

Reversed the flight angle to fit with the choreography of the combat sequence.

Changes:
I added a ton of detail to the launch bays - TIEs, INTs, BMBs, and even a couple more GUNs to help show the scale of where the Gunboats have launched from. Hopefully that helps with some of the perspective issues.
I've fixed the texture mapping from the previous attempts that used a strictly triplanar mapping arrangement - the mapping now follows the major hull angles and lines! Makes a huge difference to me, as this has bugged me forever.
Better near/far material blends for the ISDs windows - they now go from more simplistic to simulated rooms as you get closer.
This is the original animatic scene, so you can see some of what I'm trying to do with this!
