This can be an insurmountable obstacle for them to overcome.Certain expected human behaviours, at least in the Western world, appear to be unspoken, unwritten, or otherwise withheld from those who aren't able to pick up on certain signals, and desperately desire clarity in these situations. The anxious and the awkward amongst us are constantly on edge, for fear of the next social faux pas they'll unwittingly stumble in. Rather than affording them time to breathe, or an explanation they can comprehend, we go to pains to attach labels of disability to them – as if to say this person is "broken", rather than "different". An incomplete jigsaw.I do believe there is beauty in the human mind's inscrutability, and those who possess differences in their ways of thinking or of approaching problems carry an enormous potential for creativity, one that should not be ignored or forced into the mold of a mundane working world. Freud commonly described it as a desire to return to the womb, in order to remove oneself from the daily stresses of human life. It's a relatable feeling for me, in some way – sometimes in places of vulnerability or despondency, I prefer to vanish into safety and keep to myself, unseen and unheard.I see the daily struggle that many people go through in coming to terms with their own identity, and how in this current political landscape there is a constant pull between what they wish to be, and what the rest of the contemporary society wishes for them to be. Time pressures, exacerbators of depression or anxiety, and other unwelcome extrinsic limitations all played a part in how I felt towards the end of my studies. This piece was initially written during the final year of my Bachelor Degree, at a point where I was seriously struggling with a sense of not belonging, of not performing to targets, and not feeling willing to conform to the restraints I was being put under. It is by some small miracle that I didn't flunk.I have observed over the years that during my dreams I am often much more animated and emotionally driven, and some of my best musical ideas have come from words, sounds or full melodies that I have heard during dreams. To date, this state of being is not something I've been able to consciously harness during waking hours, but I hold out hope that perhaps there is a way for me to do so.
