ShredwotFirst and foremost this is a TAS or Tool-Assisted Speedrun that slows down a game frame-by-frame to provide maximum optimization in a game (Not necessarily in the one you're watching). That being said you can play this anywhere you want so long as you link back to here or show that the video was created by me.
This TAS was done on v1.0 of Star Road that tries to get 80 stars as quickly as possible that follows the rules of RTA 80 star which allows no door skipping (clipping walls isn't allowed) and no BLJs. v1.0 has a few minor glitches in it that the deluxe version can't do but would really be only beneficial in a 130 star TAS. I chose to use this version over deluxe as the camera in this one is like the original SM64 and isn't fucking terrible. Skelux why?. A neat glitch/trick/exploit whatever I manage to find in this TAS that is possible on all versions is the ability grab underneath a painting like when entering KC or FFF. It's possible to grab under other paintings but the only ones you can clip into are MSP, KC, FFF which saves roughly 5 frames or so could be more. (As you can see I only found this out at KC and I didn't really want to redo MSP and CCC)
A big shoutout to SimpleFlips for keeping me interested in finishing this every now and again.
Below I have an in depth document about my star times in each level and how they compare with current published TASes. Currently I am 17 seconds off of pure optimization and with Sonicpackers 80 Star TAS in the making you can expect there to be a bigger time shave. I expect his TAS will be a high 45 or low to mid-range 46.
I set out to create a 80 Star BLJless TAS for Star Road at the beginning of November to help improve my skills in TASing and to learn about optimization and because the 80 star TAS proposed on TAS videos looked like it had been cancelled when I began making it. Also to see if i could accomplish a full project by myself. A lot of the routes and strat ideas came from Kyman and Gohan (who both provided their TAS files for which I could reference) USTA2877 (who has an extensive collection of TASes in this game) [Their Youtube accounts will be linked below]
If you end up watching the entire video you can see some areas where it looks like I've been sloppy and I probably was. During the entire time making this I sometimes just couldn't be fucked optimizing it and you can see that in stars like Chill with the Bully or the entirety of Starlight Runway. The first level PPP also looks pretty unoptimized and is due to it being the first level I worked on and just testing whether or not I would continue the TAS. Overall I had a lot of fun making this and am quite pleased with what I managed to accomplish.
Although this file only contains 39000 rerecords I suspect its more in the high 40k due to my constantly copying files and then redoing or testing routes on different ones.
Now after that long winded description here are the technicals:

So I managed to get a file with the cannon open for Kaizo which allowed me to do invis Sky. Had a lot of fun doing this. Far from optimized cause you could probably do Slope jumpdives on the 2nd slide and probably do the TJ to wk up to 2nd slide instead of travelling all the way around.Pit and the Pendulums - Kaizo 64 TASShredwot2014-02-19 | Time: 28.27 Rerecords: 623 Frames: 1696

There were a few interesting things coming into GG that I wanted to test, mainly concerning 100coin+red routes. The route I used in this WIP looked good, although a few other routes could be faster. Rerecords: 682 Compared to my last run this TAS saves roughly 4 seconds (10511 frames compared to the previous 10788) It features a few new strats that was absent in the last one with the quick drop for the first lum and faster ledge climb before the globox children. I'm also able to do a edge boost jump which gives me extra distance and speed from an edge (Ty Bizhawk for not desynching)Chuckya Harbour WIPShredwot2013-12-16 | Been a while since last upload. As you can see this is a TAS of the 80 star route of Chuckya Harbour. Compared to previous WIP uploads I'm going to offer more information with this one. Star Times: The other entrance: 2'23 Climb the pole: 18'77 Swim into the flooded cage: 24'97 Underwater Maze: 13'90 Break into the building: 12'40
Also a small breakdown of the current progress of the TAS and comparisons with other TAS's. http://bombch.us/RcCSky Land Resort TAS WIPShredwot2013-12-04 | I lose nearly 2 seconds at flying stepping stones due to not being able to get enough speed to LJ to the platform. I'm pretty happy with what I have here with how much time I spent on each star. Current Rerecord count is at 9000 but I estimate it's about 13-14000 as I've made copies of the .m64 to test things then used that file to continue on. Whomp King section I think is a WR, will need to do correct timing later.Piranha Plant Pond 2:16 WIPShredwot2013-11-28 | ...Task 7.Shredwot2013-10-19 | Enter "Tick Tock Clock" (TTC) and Get the star "Stomp on the Thwomp".

Boost jumping is a trick that allows you to jump on the last possible frame you're on a ledge so you travel a lot further. 1:20 This wall climbing section may look slow but it's as optimized as it can get, every jump is frame perfect. If I decide to wait a few frames and then jump closer to the gap so I can climb up without grabbing the ledge on the top it doesn't appear to save anytime.
An updated section of the TAS I was doing, this WIP saves nearly 5 seconds over the previous TAS I did.
Unfortunately this is still unoptimized, and I can save at least 3-5 more seconds.OkayShredwot2013-07-25 | OkTeaser.aviShredwot2013-07-10 | ...WoL WIP TAS 6:55.47Shredwot2013-07-06 | Woods of Light TAS 6:55.47
TAS of Rayman 2, there can definitely be a lot of optimization in the slide and movement through the woods.
The gameplay doesn't actually start till 3:15 in the video, this first level is just basically cutscenes.
The triple jump at 4:13 is to skip the first murphy text. Unfortunately you can't skip the second text as you get forced down to the ground if you're in mid-air and break the cage.
4:56 also shows skipping the Globox children. This part was pretty annoying as the jump from the previous ledge would desynch quite a bit.SM64 VC 70 star in 58:31.Shredwot2013-05-08 | Now that I subbed one I don't think I'm going to play this game for a whileMuhMoo.aviShredwot2013-05-03 | ...ehShredwot2013-05-01 | ...Pokemon Snap 100% in 26:11.53Shredwot2012-12-19 | I lose 15 seconds between 1:09-1:24 due to cpu problems.
