The Vintage Appliance Emporium
Vintage 1979 National MC-7770 Ultra Compact Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner
updated
This is the last video I had "in the bank" before life changed where I went back to work and my brother sadly passed away. So it's only right you should see and enjoy it.
Here we have the fabulous 1980 Miele S125 in all its glory. Shall we see how it manages on the deep clean test? I think we shall.
Don't worry, there will be more videos coming to the channel soon. I'm having my kitchen remodeled and a new bathroom fitted which means the dinning room (where I record all the videos) is currently FULL of stuff. I can barely get in there.
I've actually got three machines waiting for unboxing and a really interesting box of bits that I want to show you. As soon as I can I promise I will film them.
See you soon! Lots of love xx

Anyway, let's get back to the tests with this hilarious little Electrolux SmartLite.
How do you think it's going to perform? Let's find out!

How do you guys think the 702 with its twin fan 750 watt bypass motor will do in this test? I'm quietly hopeful that it won't disgrace its self to be honest. And hopefully it'll raise the stakes for Goblin after the disaster that was the Housemaid...

Excellent airflow from the direct-air motor, decent brushroll, big bag to keep the air moving. All the ingredients for an excellent result.
But how did it do? Watch on to find out...

Will this be controversial? Will it actually be any good?? Can we stand the tension???
I'm beside myself. Honestly couldn't call this one; it was either going to be really good or really bad. Watch on to find out!

Of course it works perfectly! Not been touched for years but boom straight to work. Amazing!
Unfortunately the brushroll on this Laser is not great, it's very worn and the bristles don't extend that far. But we shall see how it does.

I've had this in my dining room for about three months and never got around to unboxing it. We shall change all that in this video!
I was rather surprised to find the machine having the word "EXCLUSIVE" written across the front of it. If anyone knows why this is an exclusive, please do let me know in the comments.

AFTER SOME RESEARCH:
So it seems that Argos were still selling the CV-770xx models in 1996 and then went to the CV-975xx in 1999, which make me assume that the CV-780xx machines were more likely on sale between 1997 and 1998. Can anyone confirm this for us?
Here's the Hoover Portapower flexing its muscles up against the sand test. I have to be honest - I'm not expecting a great result from this one, but hopefully it won't be disgraceful.

Remember we had significant problems with the Powerglide motor? Well they seem to have calmed down with some lubrication, some rotation and a bit of heat.
Let's get this bad boy back together and see how it sounds.

I suspect most people bought the Hoover or Electrolux.
But were they WRONG? Should they have actually bought the Hotpoint? Well stick around for some surprising results :-O

So help me out guys: Hoover definitely made variations of this machine in yellow, blue and red. BUT did they make a green one or am I making that up?
This is the second machine that I bought from my friend Richie. I've been looking for one at a reasonable price for YEARS so when this came up I had to buy it. But was it a good investment? Watch and find out!

UPDATE: Oh fudge me sideways... After doing some more research on the U2090 it now appears that there were TWO versions of this cleaner: Early and Late. The one we see here is Early. The later machine had updated graphics and a black knob oooh-er missus! And there WAS a green version (1000 watts) that ran alongside this machine. Hoover, again, doing their best to ruin any chance of a collector ever getting his hands on them all XD
My expectations are high for this old girl. Will it triumph over the 1973 Hoover Constellation? It will need to beat a 90% pick up rate in order to do so.

I've had this vacuum cleaner for many many years and it has been in chronic need of refurbishment for ages. My neighbour Kristian very kindly put the hood through the Retrobrite process for me as it had yellowed horribly.
In this video we will service the Junior's motor and rebuild the whole cleaner from the ground up.
NOTE: I did go back and 1) install the front motor seal and 2) stick the ratings sticker back behind the Dirtsearcher lens!
Hope you enjoyed the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe :)
I was actually very impressed with the results. Just goes to show that a decent amount of airflow really helps.

I bought it from my friend Richie who's having a clear out. Along with another Hoover that we will see in a later video.
This little cylinder requires a FULL restoration and we will do that in an upcoming video series - it's been a while since we were in the workshop together and I think this is an excellent candidate.

First Test Video coming out on Friday 10th November - I'm excited!
I went to see my lovely friend this weekend and came back with a car full.
In this video we'll review the vacuum cleaners I picked up and rank them in least to most exciting. In my humble opinion of course...
You'll be HORRIFIED at number One ;)
We have treasures from:
Hoover
VAX
Panasonic
Dyson

I couldn't pack any more in if I tried...
In the early 90s Electrolux realised they no longer had a budget cylinder vacuum cleaner and the other manufacturers were taking away their market share. So they hastily came up with one. An intriguing look into cost reduction and parts sharing.

Let's get this big box open and have a look at what the lovely Andrew has sent us. There are things in here that I'd forgotten he'd included so it's as much as a surprise for me as it is for you.

I've had an idea that I'd like to run past you. Well, it's more of a steady trot; I'm far too old to run.
Please let me know in the comments if it's something you'd like to see and I'll get cracking on the planning and acquisition of some sand...
Lots of love :)
Not sure I'd cook my sausage and mash in this machine though...
No not at all. That's all I paid for this £400 vacuum cleaner. But the question remains - is it any good?
Well watch on and find out!

Fancy washing your socks on the move? Then Tefal had you covered.
Here's a later version of the Tefal Washboy from around 1989 / 1990. It's been updated with a 'modern' colour scheme, none of that nasty 80s beige anymore.
This actually belongs to my friend Richard who lent it to me to make this video. It will be heading back to Bristol pretty darn quick. As much fun as it is I'm not planning on using it much more.

We've got appearances by:
Hoover
Electrolux
Goblin
Dyson
Miele
And others.
How many can you name?
Hope you enjoyed this little compilation. I'll do another one with the video files I have on a different computer at some point.

Even if you do hate me let me know in the comments lol.
Swear to God this came to me in a moment of madness - probably fuelled by alcohol - and I just HAD to make it!
As mentioned, this is V1.0 and I'm thinking for V2.0 that it should have a removable powernozzle and a 2000 watt Chinese crapvac motor.
But what do YOU think?

Here's an interesting pair!
It's been a long time since I had my hands on a Royal Upright - 23 years in fact.
Let's get the Royal Twins out of the box and see what we're faced with. Then I'd better crack on with the repairs.
We'll see them again in a future video and do a side by side comparison of when they're running.

Well after 34 years I've finally realised my dream. And what a dream it was lol ;)
Join me as we make history by competing a 'set' of Hoover vacuum cleaners from the late 1980s - there will obviously be a follow up video and I can't wait to film it!
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe :)
We've started by creating a couple of fans for the Hoover Starlight / Junior Deluxe (U2002 / U2068) as they were notorious back in the 70s and 80s for smashing their fans to pieces on the smallest items of dirt.
Here we test a couple of printed fans hot off the... printer. The grey one was perfect, the black & white one not so much.
We're looking at recreating a whole selection of vacuum cleaner parts that you can no longer buy. A full video update will be forthcoming when our prototypes are ready.
This is all very exciting and I can't wait to bring you more :)
This is a one-owner-from-new 1978 Hoover U4058 upright vacuum cleaner from the Senior range and was exclusively sold by the Co-Op supermarket for a short time between (I THINK) 1977 and 1979 - although please tell me if that's wrong.
They were rare and unusual in their day and they most certainly are now 45 years later.
They are the only Hoover Senior to ever wear this style of motor hood in the UK. No other machine shared this 70s styling. The colour is very close to that of the U2068 Hoover Junior Deluxe (Starlight) of the same period. Maybe slightly darker
Let's hope Richard is happy with his purchase :)

I /could/ have grabbed an Electrolux... but I can't help rather liking the Dyson DC01 De Stijl!
Objectively it's not a great vacuum cleaner however, there's just something about it...
I actually forgot to film it so today I corrected that mistake.
Have you ever thought what it would be like if you owned a 1980/81 Miele S125 stick vac and had access to a plethora of Miele cleaning heads? No? Me either. But I do! So in this video we're going to stick a selection of cleaning heads onto the S125 and see which is the best.
I was actually surprised by the outcome.

But today we've gone a bit more modern with a SEBO X4.
It's such a beautiful building and you'll see my friend Richard at the alter polishing the brass XD
In this video we're going to get the machine out of the box, look over it, plug it in and see if it runs.
Does it suffer from the usual problems that plagued these machines back in the day? You bet your ass it does!
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe :)
This is the special edition Dyson DC04 De Stijl that was released around 1999 as a compliment to the standard DC04 range. If you wanted a bit more colour in your vacuuming life then the DS is the version of the DC01 / DC02 / DC04 that you bought.
I remember these as being hideously expensive, in excess of £250 in 1999 which is a lot of money NOW let alone back then. So let's check it out and I'll tell you the story of collecting it.
Also, as a little bonus, if your DC04 isn't picking up as it should, then I have a hack that can improve the machine's performance using a bowl and a kettle full of boiling water.
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe!
Such a strange machine. It's pretty much too powerful for its own good.
Full video on this machine to follow
Here's one of the trio of Hoover The One series machines that I bought new (graded) back in 2007 / 2008.
It's sat in the garage for many years. I saw it the other day covered in filth and thought I'd really like to clean it up and make a video of it. So I plugged it in but there was no life in the brushroll.
In this video we're going to open up the head and see if we can get it working again.

Richard gave me this one owner from new SEBO X1 and there are a few things wrong with it. Not sure what the best thing to do with it is so thought I'd ask you guys.
Please let me know in the comments :)
Don't forget to like and subscribe as it really helps me out!
As I mention in the video - sorry I didn't film the restoration process. I can assure you it was thorough. The machine was fully stripped and cleaned, the motor was stripped, cleaned and lubricated including washing out the fans which were loaded up with dust.
I then popped in a Numatic Henry HEPA-FLO dustbag and we're off!
Amazingly, as I was getting ready to film this video, I laid my hands upon a Miele powerhead that that been hanging out in the lounge for months. It was the perfect opportunity to combine the two together to make the ultimate S220 - I dread to think how much this set up would have cost back in 1980. A LOT of money.
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe :)
It's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Join me in this video where we explore my BUSH in great detail; the good, the bad and the hairy.

I'm always astounded at just how easy these machines are to work on. You can have the motor in your hands in less than two minutes - try doing that on a modern Dyson lol.
