It would be very difficult indeed to learn the piano and avoid discovering the major triad, and since so much of music revolves around this simple grouping of three notes I figured I'd make a simple tutorial video explaining how to find every common major triad across the piano and across the key signatures, too. If there's enough interest I'll keep making videos like this, leave suggestions for future video ideas in the comments below! :D❝Autumn Memories❝ Halloween Sheet Music and Tutorial (For the Intermediate Pianist)ThePianoforever2021-10-26 | Hey everyone, here's a fun little seasonal tune I wrote for the fall, I'm really happy with how it came out! "Horribly out of tune" and "badly malfunctioning" are terms people would usually assign to a piano found at the thrift store, but this one is a different story. This piano (and the one behind it!) is quite a respectable little upright piano, and while it may not be the world's greatest piano, it will last many, many more years as a sturdy and dependable musical instrument for a pretty low price!Treble Test Piece and Score (Tutorial) #TrebleTestPieceThePianoforever2021-09-28 | The day has finally come, to share my score of the "Treble Test Piece"! As we continue our adventure, the next town to see is Plymouth, Massachussetts, which is an interesting, historic town that is popular with tourists today. I've always wanted to see Plymouth Rock, ever since reading about it as a kid years ago, and I also got to see a reproduction of the original Mayflower ship that brought the Pilgrims to the shores of America. After Plymouth, we head for Fall River and see some infamous stuff there, stay tuned!Shigeru Kawai SK 2 (World class piano for under 6ft.)ThePianoforever2021-09-20 | This Shigeru Kawai SK-2 is probably one of the nicest examples of an SK-2 I have found, and it's also one of the best pianos that is under 6 feet in length, with very little competition in this size bracket. Its sound is solid, warm, and impressively large for its size, which is in the range that many people would consider to be "small". It has almost none of the negative characteristics of the average small grand, however, and is truly a delight to play. I found this beautiful instrument at:

It's made by Critter and Guitari, and is called the Pocket Piano. Although it's not actually a piano, it makes some interesting sounds, and its unique visual aesthetic really makes it look cool too! I also picked out a vintage Zildjian cymbal, since I would like to have another crash cymbal.USS Constitution (Oldest floating Vessel in The World)ThePianoforever2021-09-09 | James and I have a great opportunity to go on board the USS Constitution. It's a wonderful Vessel that is still part of the US Navy to this very day. In the war of 1812 it sank 5 British Frigates and with that has a very colorful past. We were lucky enough to meet up with Adam a sailor with the US Navy and he was kind enough to give us a guided tour of this fantastic sailing ship.Casiotone CT-S1 (Unbiased Full Review)ThePianoforever2021-09-07 | The Casiotone CT-S1 is a relatively new release that I thought might prove to be an interesting and fun instrument for its price range, and I was right! For the pretty low price of $200 USD, this instrument provides some really fun tones and a simplistic user experience that is not like many others on the market at this price range.

Despite what Casio states about this action being "perfect" and "uncompromised", in my opinion it is one of the worst keyboard actions that you can find on the market today. Why Casio has not fixed the issue of the black keys weighing less than the white keys, and has instead chosen to release what appears to be the exact same product under a different name, is a mystery to me. We will also discuss an interesting parallel between Casio and an unrelated brand, as well as why Casio might be making this unusual decision.America's Backroads: Introduction to James' new video and channel ❝Driving to Boston❝ThePianoforever2021-08-26 | James and I take the 1935 Ford to downtown Boston to check out the Freedom Trail and other sites in downtown Boston. James and dad head up to Massachusetts to acquire a very rare and original 4 door Ford convertible with only 62,215 miles. This car is in non-restored condition, just receiving excellent maintenance throughout it's 86 years from the two documented owners it has had since 1935. Once arriving the real question is can we drive it back to Tennessee and what work will need to be done before we could make an attempt like that, if any?Vintage C. Many piano stores that I go into, including DC Pianos, will have a handful of used Steinways, but I have never seen one quite like this. Built for tropical climates, rapidly changing humidities, or for frequent transport to different regions, the "climatized" Steinway is a standard piano that has been reinforced to maintain stability across many of its wooden components that are susceptible to humidity changes. The keys, soundboard, rim, side panels, and other components have additional structural support to assist with rigidity and it seems to work well. This piano likely has never been to a humid climate, and has aged excellently with a lovely tone and great action, and a top quality restoration by DC Pianos.America's Backroads - E-Bikes on the Tweetsie Trail!ThePianoforever2021-07-26 | A while ago I visited the Tweetsie Trail and asked if anyone wanted to see more of it, and I thought it was time to revisit it and actually travel down it! It is a beautiful piano with one of the most incredible melodic sounds that I have ever heard, a fantastic bass, crystalline treble, and responsive action - pretty much everything you need from a world-class piano. It's a shame that C. Bechsteins are so rare here in the States, but it's great that Benjamin Kim wants to change that!America's Backroads: Pal's and A Wicked Plant Store. Notable for its extra bass notes, massive size, and extremely high quality, the Imperial has long been one of my favorite pianos simply for the oddity and rarity of them, and this particular instrument is one of the best I've played. Refurbished by Meyer in Europe, this instrument has an unusually deep, sonorous tone, a crystalline treble, and a powerful sound that you won't always find in a Bösendorfer!
Many thanks to Benjamin Kim from Kim's Pianos for letting me review and play this piano, even though it was sold! Not everyone would allow that.. :)

Many people have also heard of the American piano maker Kimball, who made simple instruments for the average household which are, for the most part, nothing out of the ordinary. For a time, however, Kimball owned Bösendorfer, and during this period they made instruments to Bösendorfer's specifications in Indiana, USA. These had some qualities of both brands, and due to the Kimball name being used on the fallboard the instruments have little prestige today. However, they present very good value on the used market, as they tend to have a nice sound reminiscent of a European instrument.New Channel Announcement! While I personally think the P125 and P515 wouldn't need to be changed very much to stay relevant for many years to come, what about Yamaha's cheapest fully weighted digital piano the P45? It was OK for a home use instrument, but it hadn't changed a lot in many years and some of its features seemed outdated by a decade. All of this has changed with the new 670, however. The case has been redesigned, the screen is a full-color, fresh looking display, and the sounds have been revamped to include some incredible organ, woodwind, brass, and piano sounds that are better than ever before. The instrument is amazing on its own - and that's not discussing any of its arranger functionalities!
While some things have remained the same, like the single headphone jack output and the GHS keybed, the things that have been improved are such an incredible advancement that it makes me wonder what is to come for the P-Series...Why is the Yamaha U1 so popular?ThePianoforever2021-05-29 | One acoustic instrument I have had many requests to review is the Yamaha U1 and its larger brother the U3. Initially I wasn't very impressed with the ES920 especially compared to its predecessor. Its build quality seemed like a downgrade from the ES8, the action was the same rubbery RH3 mechanism, and although the sounds in the ES920 are very, very good the speakers are not perfect and tend to buzz and distort. The ES520 has many of the same problems, and seeing how they stack up to the cheap ES110 has a very interesting outcome...Roland FP-30X vs. Kawai ES110 vs. Yamaha P125: ComparisonThePianoforever2021-05-08 | Many people have wanted to see a comparison between the Roland FP30X and its competitors from other brands, and it is time I made that video. Although far from perfect, it was once a high quality piano, and has the potential to become a great instrument once again. For a piano with original strings, hammers, and action, it plays remarkably well, and its tone seems to be reasonably good! For anyone wanting an interesting restoration project, this might be a neat one!
The Roland FP-30 was a product that did not impress me originally. I disliked that it did not have any stereo line outs (while its competition in its price class did), I didn't like its downward facing speakers, I found its Rhodes sound to be atrocious, I was annoyed by the user interface, and liked certain elements of the action but wasn't entirely happy. What has changed in the FP-30X?
Well, a lot of good things! Featuring stereo line outputs in addition to the headphone jack (yay!), a vastly improved Rhodes sound, bigger speakers, and more sounds to play with, there are some noticeable improvements. However, not everything is perfect, which I will talk about in the video...The 3-Tier Keyboard Stand: On-Stage KS7903ThePianoforever2021-04-25 | This is a very cool, but imperfect, keyboard stand made by the brand On-Stage, whose products I have used for many years. They seem to have a tendency, in my opinion, to be adequate but under-engineered, due to On-Stage aiming for a very affordable price, rather than an exceedingly high quality. This keyboard stand is no exception, with it having a few flaws that make it nearly unusable in some circumstances. It can't hold very heavy keyboards (although it is advertised as being able to do so), and it can't hold the majority of 88-key keyboards because it is too narrow.
Having said this, On-Stage seems interested in re-vamping this stand in the coming year, and may make it into something that can truly hold 40 pounds per tier, albeit at a higher price point. :)Under $400.00: Donner vs. Alesis vs. Inovus - Digital Pianos Compared (88 Keys Fully Weighted)ThePianoforever2021-04-19 | These are some highly requested digital pianos that many people have wanted me to compare, and that is what this video is for! Although it looks pretty nice, and a couple of its sounds do have some redeeming qualities, it has a familiar flaw with the action which detracts from the playing experience, and is very difficult to record with due to its jumpy, unpredictable dynamic response. If you're in the market for a keyboard in this price bracket, I'd try to avoid the Recital Pro, there are better options out there.
