Zanac and the Famicom Keyboard Xkeeper 2018-11-18 | BMF54123 looked into this last night when we couldn't get it working on the real console; turns out a pesky emulation bug had us all wrong for years, all the way back to the original TCRF page: http://bmf.rustedmagick.com/cr/zanac.htmIt's still a doozy of a code:• You need a Famicom, the Famicom Keyboard, and the US (!) version of the game• Soft reset the game nine times• Type in "@COMPILE" and hit return• From there, pause and press CLR/HOME, DEL, and INS to do various thingsFCEU(X) has a weird bug where something gets corrupt/mishandled in the keyboard scanning and it skips the first character, so the page (and all the people who copied it, cough) say you just have to type "COMPILE", no at symbol. Welp. We'll update the wiki proper later. We were looking into the FDS version, but it looks like the code was stripped out of it.
Visualizing Super Mario Bros. 2s music engine Xkeeper 2018-03-13 | Here's a video with a script I wrote that visualizes some of how SMB2's music engine works.The offset at the top left is the current music pointer; the information below that is Square 1, 2, Triangle, and Noise. DPCM isn't on here yet, because I kinda forgot about it and it's like 2 in the morning.Each channel has its own offset after the main music pointer, and it looks like channels can choose to "loop" that segment. Square 1 seems to be the master control, choosing when to move onto the next segment.Some of these overlap, but this script isn't sophisticated enough to show that yet.

[Lua] Metroid II: Real-time room modification, sorta-mini-map Xkeeper 2014-10-06 | Left click to erase tiles, right click to draw a generic solid tile. If you uncomment some gui.text lines, you can get some information displayed on screen like the current camera coordinates, and what RAM address controls the tile under the mouse cursor.I originally tried to make an automap like you see in Super Metroid, but... I haven't quite figured out how the map layout works. It makes my head hurt.Instead, I end up digging through the starting area, coming out next to the baby Metroid, and then going back to the ship, only to find a flashing missile where the ending should be! It accepts game genie codes and memory addresses from the chat, and then enables the codes/sets that memory address until the timeout is reached.Unfortunately, the chat isn't recorded in this video, but you can see the codes and values people were using appear in the top right corner.The game is SMB1 because it has a self-playing demo and tends to break in interesting ways. The goombas are Twitch icons as a shoutout to Kanthes.
