The raindrops falling on beach stones happened on the north shore of Lake Superior in America. Exactly half way through this video the scene dissolves into a twin beach I filmed at Etretat France, ironically (in the context of today) not far from the Normandy invasion beaches of WWII.
There is another poignant connection between these two locations that connects us. The very first European explorers came to the Minnesota Lake Superior shores around 1650. They were the bold French Voyageur fur traders who long ago sang and paddled their birch bark canoes on the lakes next to my home. Many of these first settlers of Minnesota departed France from the port city of Le Havre just 15 miles from this stony beach. Connections…
Today we mourn again from mans ability to inflict indescribable pain and suffering upon others. I'm hoping that the daily series Nature 365 may act as a sponge for our tears now and help in a small way to heal the pain we carry with us. I believe nature is able to do such healing. Its raining outside my door as I write this and think of nature’s ability to cleanse. And at the end of this minute video the brightness on the horizon may speak of better things to come.
Using our universal language of pictures I send this empathy card to my dear friends in France as an expression of love and support.
Bon courage mes amis, bises.
