Much like the Crusades, the Inquisition was not a single event, but can be generally broken into the following categories.

Medieval Inquisition – 1184 AD through the 14th century.
Late Middle Ages and early Renaissance – During this time the tribunal’s geographic scope was expanded to other European countries resulting most notably in:

The Spanish Inquisition – 1478 AD – 1834 AD (this is the inquisition which is perhaps most widely misrepresented today.)

Portuguese Inquisition – 1536 AD – 1821 AD

The Roman Inquisition – 1588 AD – Present, in the form of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Spain and Portugal in particular operated inquisitorial courts throughout their respective empires with a particular focus on the issue of Jewish and Muslim converts to Catholicism – partly because these minority groups were more numerous in Spain and Portugal than in many other parts of Europe, and partly because they were often considered suspect due to the assumption that they had secretly reverted back to their previous religions.

The concept and scope of these inquisitions were also significantly expanded in response to the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation.

The death toll numbers that you have heard are wrong. Flat out wrong.

Protestant preacher Jimmy Swaggart claimed that 20 million people were murdered by the Catholic Church during the Inquisition.6 Another Protestant text, “The Mystery of Babylon Revealed” claims 95 million people were killed during the Inquisition.

Really? 95 million? How is that even possible? It is not until modern times that the population of all of Europe even begins to approach 95 million. The present-day population of France, Spain, and Italy is about 150 million. To kill 95 million during just the Spanish Inquisition, the Catholic Church would have had to kill every man, woman, and child in all of Europe, then import millions more just to kill them too.

In contrast to these claims, modern historians have begun to study the documentary records of the Spanish Inquisition. The archives of the Suprema, today held by the National Historical Archive of Spain (Archivo Histórico Nacional), conserves the annual relations of all inquisition processes between 1560 and 1700 AD. This material provides information about 49,092 judgements which were carefully studied by Gustav Henningsen and Jaime Contreras. They calculate that only 1.9% of those processed were burned at the stake.

Faith Alone - Why Luther Was WrongFaith Alone - Why Luther Was Wrong
📺 Faith Alone - Why Luther Was Wrong
Robert Haddad 📤 1 year ago 2017-01-07
'Faith alone', or Sola Fidei, has been debated for centuries between Catholics and Protestants. What is sometimes missed, however, is the role of love in justification. If we are justified by faith alone, then what about love? Is love just an optional extra? Or does the definition of faith implicitly include love?

In this presentation Robert Haddad insists that love in addition to faith is necessary for justification and salvation. Why is love necessary? For we are called not just to believe in Christ but to live like him. Love is not a human work adding to Christ's work, but a necessary 'work' inspired by God's grace and offered back to the Father in union with Christ's work.

In the end, Robert Haddad shows that faith alone is a dangerous fallacy based on a reading of Scripture that subjects the Word of God to the pre-conceived doctrines of men.

In this 2006 Deep in History lecture, Marcus Grodi looks at how for so many of us in the United States, our understanding of the Reformation is colored by the fact that our nation started out as a British colony, and our shared narrative leads many of us to believe that Martin Luther and Renaissance thinkers freed humanity from a dark, ignorant, and uncivilized oppression by the Catholic Church. Marcus invites us to reexamine that view of history, to look at the data and the lives of Christians who lived during those centuries, and to get a more accurate picture of the role of the Catholic Church in society leading up to the 16th century.

Tim Staples answers a caller who asks if God's command to Moses to kill people contradicts the New Testament teachings of Jesus Christ.

Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization here at Catholic Answers, but he was not always Catholic. Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. Although he fell away from the faith of his childhood, Tim came back to faith in Christ during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists. Soon after, Tim joined the Marine Corps.

During his four-year tour, he became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met a Marine who really knew his faith and challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two-year search for the truth. Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church!

He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, for two years. Realizing that his calling was not to the priesthood, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.

Catholic vs Protestants. While we are at it, we will explain Methodist, Baptist, Southern Baptist, Holy orders as well as why we call a Catholic Priest father and not preacher. Ignatius of Antioch said, where the bishop is, there is God. You don't have to be born again to watch this video, however, you'll need to be born again to make it to heaven. Its time to look at your awesome church and share your religion with others. Martin Luther got it wrong when he started protestantism. It led to baptist, southern baptist, methodism, protestant reformation was crazy. Why wait until after death to learn the truth. You owe it to your self and others to learn about the teachings of Christ. Our lord Jesus Christ, our God and savior. He died on the cross for all of us. Lets not over look all the passages in the holy scripture. I hope you will enjoy and see the truth about holy spiritualism. Dont forget to share with your friends.

We cover some of the main aspects of the Crusades, such as Pope Urban II's calling of the First Crusade, how the Reconquista in Spain became a Crusade, the nature of crusading and the motivation for crusading.

About my new book - Why Does the Heathen Rage:

It is twenty-four years since the First Crusaders conquered Jerusalem. Robert Bures is a young knight whose father rose to power and prosperity in the new Crusader kingdom, and whose uncle died in battle with the Saracens. Nothing matters more to him than defending the Holy Sepulcher, the tomb of Jesus Christ, more sacred than any shrine in Christendom. Robert has been a trusted retainer to Baldwin II, King of Jerusalem, a veteran of the First Crusade who now rules the beleaguered Christian outpost in the Holy Land, but his friendship with the King's daughter, the beautiful and headstrong Princess Melisende, is growing unfittingly close. In Aleppo, the Turkish warlord Balak has raised a vast Saracen army and promises to drive the Christians into the sea. King Baldwin II is short of men and funds, yet his faith in God in unshakable, and he inspires passionate loyalty in his troops. His daughter Melisende feels the weight of the future pressing down upon her, for her father has no son, and she is heir to a Kingdom that her people believe would be better inherited by a warrior prince. Why Does the Heathen Rage? explores a magnificent but rarely examined chapter in Crusades history. The Kingdom of Jerusalem is young, and beset from all sides with enemies. In the face of unending trials, King Baldwin II and his knights fight with zeal, ready to die for the city that Christ made sacred with his blood: Jerusalem.

After the Reformation, the Roman Catholic Church began to reform some of its abuses. The Catholic Reformation, though, was not only a reaction to Protestantism, but also a flowering of Roman Catholic practice. Some cardinals and other members of the Roman Catholic clergy are concerned that Pope Francis has deviated from its traditional positions on matters such as homosexuality, salvation, fornication, remarriage, and other doctrines. Australian Cardinal George Pell even mentioned 'antipopes' when discussing Pope Francis. North American Cardinal Raymond Burke has raised many concerns about Francis' pontificate. Did Catholic saints teach that popes could become heretics? Will the final pope not be Catholic? Is an ecumenical pontiff possibly the final Antichrist? What do both biblical, and even Roman Catholic, prophecies warn about? Could Pope Francis be an antipope and final Antichrist?

Note - The title of this series "No Apologies" is not to suggest that there is nothing to apologize about the Inquisition or other ignoble events in Church history. Rather it is a word play on the series' broader topic of Apologetics, the defense of the faith.

Much (but not all) of the scandal and misunderstanding regarding the Inquisition is rooted in grossly exaggerated numbers and ideas. Many of these myths were recently brought to light by the non-catholic BBC in a documentary called The Myth of the Spanish Inquisition.

In this episode of LIVING WATERS, Rev. Fr. Augustine Vallooran V.C. shares an enlightening and uplifting talk: “WHY DO CATHOLICS PRAY FOR THE DEAD?”

“On 2nd November we observed the Commemoration of the Departed Souls – those who are dead.“There are people who ask. ‘Why should we pray for the dead?’ There is a beautiful doctrine, teaching in the Church. We call it the Truth of the Communion of Saints. What does it mean? The Church is at 3 levels:

- The Church in Heaven – those who lived in Jesus Christ and
entered into glory – the Glorious Church.

- The Church on this earth – the Struggling Church. We are the
Struggling Church. We are struggling in the face of
temptations; we are struggling to be faithful to Jesus Christ
every moment of our life.

- Then there is the Suffering Church – The Suffering Church is
the Church in Purgatory – those who are dead and being
purified now in Purgatory. These are the people in the
Suffering Church.”

“What we can do today is to help them by praying for them. Why do we pray for them? This is because there is a connection between these 3 Churches – the Glorious Church, the Struggling Church an d the Suffering Church. In the Glorious Church, Mother Mary and all the Saints intercede for us; they pray for us. We need to pray for those who are still suffering and being purified. This is a beautiful way we are connected in love.”

“We are not wanderers on this earth. We are pilgrims! Pilgrims have a definite purpose, a definite end – we are moving towards the heavenly end!”

Ideological factors, especially comparative religions, are considered. Until 1500, China was the most developed region on the globe. Confucianism has no promise of an afterlife. There are no miracles for them. They are realistic and rational. Confucius is not a god or prophet. He is revered as a great teacher. His teachings are compatible with capitalism.

Judaism produced few achievements before 1800. Christianity was not originally individualist. The ideas of Aristotle and Aquinas created the modern Christian view which then successfully made many contributions. Man is given dominion over the world. The world and truth are knowable. Wisdom comes through effort. The Catholic Church is anti-democratic, individualistic and capable of salvation. Slavery became seen as incompatible with Christian views. Christianity upholds social cooperation. Capitalism was born in Italy – a Catholic country. Private property came to be seen as a good. The Protestant religion was the most successful in production because their puritanical work ethic was the harshest. Protestantism both strengthened the state and democracies.

I saw myself get baptized and anointed with the Holy Ghost and these words were spoken to me "you moved a lot of people". That same day I also received the scar print of the nail that pierced Jesus Christs right hand on my right hand, it appeared for a while and then disappeared. I carry the testimony of Jesus Christ, HE is the son of GOD, sent by the father to be an atoning sacrifice for our sins. GOD rose him from the dead on the third day to justify us by faith and so with the heart man believes unto righteousness (GOD will not know a wicked person and what GOD has done is justified the wicked through the death and resurrection of HIS SON. We are wicked people in GODS eyes without HIS free gift of righteousness through the Gospel of reconciliation.) You must be born again...When man sinned in the beginning of creation it killed his spirit which made him spiritually dead and so all of his offspring (who we are) are/were spiritually dead. So without us doing anything right or wrong, good or evil we were spiritually dead. This explains why we must be born again of water and the spirit. He who has not the spirit of Christ is non of HIS. Pray and ask the Father for the gift of the Holy Spirit. You will NOT enter heaven without him. May GOD Bless each and every one of you, LORD willing, in Jesus Christs name, Amen.

The elements of salvation according to the New Testament holy scriptures... That we believe on Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD sent by the father who shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins, that he was crucified and died and then risen from the dead. He was raised from the dead and shed his blood to justify us by faith and with the heart man believes unto righteousness. With the mouth confession is made unto salvation... Those who believe not on Jesus Christ are in spiritual darkness and GODs wrath abides on them. Unless you repent you will perish so repent ye and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. You must be born again of water and the spirit or you will not enter heaven, without the baptism of the Holy Ghost you do not carry the testimony of Jesus Christ. And in the book of Revelation we find the following verse; and they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. We must obey Christ and keep His commandments, Loving GOD with all mind, body, and soul and loving each other. We must bear "Good Fruit", if we bear "Evil Fruit" We will be cast into the fire. We are not to hide the word of the Gospel; we are to be instant in season and out of season. There are 2 new laws in the New Testament, the law of the spirit and the law of faith. We must walk according to the spirit putting to death the deeds of the flesh. We must also keep the faith of Jesus Christ. Get a bible and start reading it now, read it every day. GODS Word is living and active and it sanctifies us by truth, His word is truth. Jesus also told us that he did not come to abolish the law and the prophets of the Old Testament; the Old Testament is also part of our instructions in righteousness. They will teach us more about the True Jesus Christ of the Holy Scriptures and help us become more pleasing to GOD, growing in Faith, Godliness, and holiness. God gives us our free gift of righteousness when we believe that God rose Jesus Christ from the dead. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Unless our righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees and scribes we will in no wise enter heaven, our own righteousness is nothing but filthy rags....Note; Filthy rags serve a purpose, they save a person from all kinds of embarrassment... We must receive the Kingdom of heaven like a child. (Children are usually ready to learn, they are humble, they ask lots of questions and are usually honest and up front) We must be conformed to the image of Christ... Trust in Jesus Christ with all your heart. Abide in the doctrine of Christ and walk in the light as He is in the light and the Blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse us from all sin. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: for by faith ye stand; faith also includes Obedience, see Matthew 8:9-10. Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling..

Patrick explains how the best way to understand disputed passages of Scripture is to look at the way they were interpreted by those closest to the apostles- the Early Church Fathers, who, through the medium of Sacred Tradition, preserved the understanding of the Bible that the Catholic Church upholds today.

This video contrasts Evangelical weekly services (called sermons) and Catholic ones (called the mass).

The average Evangelical service spends about 30% of the time with opening worship music, opening prayer, closing music and a closing prayer. The rest of the service is a sermon.
The average Catholic service spends about 75% on hymns, prayers and rituals and only 25% on a sermon using the Bible as the Text.

There are also significant theological differences between the two.

Please note: Because the song wasn't with the Evangelical sermon video I added one from the same band.

In which John Green teaches you about the Crusades embarked upon by European Christians in the 12th and 13th centuries. Our traditional perception of the Crusades as European Colonization thinly veiled in religion isn't quite right. John covers the First through the Fourth Crusades, telling you which were successful, which were well-intentioned yet ultimately destructive, and which were just plain crazy. Before you ask, no, he doesn't cover the Children's Crusade, in which children were provoked to gather for a Crusade, and then promptly sold into slavery by the organizers of said Crusade. While this story is charming, it turns out to be complete and utter hooey.

In which John Green teaches you about the Holy Roman Empire by teaching you about Charles V. Charles Hapsburg was the holy Roman Emperor, but he was also the King of Spain. And the King of Germany. And the King of Italy and the Lord of the Netherlands and Count Palatine of Burgundy. In short, Charles was runnin' thangs in much of the world during his reign. Charles ruled a lot of countries, and he was also known for encouraging intellectual discourse and he even spoke out against slavery, in a limited. So why did he consider himself a failure, and why did he break up the Empire when he abdicated in 1556? Mainly because the Holy Roman Empire didn't work very well. It was huge, and it didn't have any means of directly raising taxes. Plus, it was a pretty crazy time in Europe anyway, and Charles found himself in charge of the Catholic-Church-Endorsed Empire in the time of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. John will teach you a bit about how Charles put the Empire together, and how it fell apart, and even talk a bit about the Diet of Worms.

This episode was written by Neal Schulz, but we messed up the onscreen credits. Thanks, and great work, Neal.

John Green teaches you about the so-called Dark Ages, which it turns out weren't as uniformly dark as you may have been led to believe. While Europe was indeed having some issues, many other parts of the world were thriving and relatively enlightened. John covers European Feudalism, the cultural blossoming of the Islamic world, and the scientific and artistic advances in China, all during these "Dark Ages." Along the way, John will raise questions about the validity of Europe's status as a continent, reveal the best and worst years of his life, and frankly state that science and religion were once able to coexist.

Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe.

I just finished watching this documentary for the first time and I was very impressed. Right away I wanted to help share this information with the world but I was concerned about copyrights, likely it seems that as long as I do not profit financially on doing so, the authors of this great video are all for copying and sharing. I have monetization turned off on my account, so I think it is safe for me to share. I look forward to checking out their other documentary called Footprints in Stone.

Scott grew up in Morgantown, WV and was interested in dinosaurs at a young age. He received a Bible at vacation bible school around the age of 10 and started reading it. He read up to the time of Abraham and saw all the generations from Adam to Abraham. After that he looked at the New Testament and saw all the generations from Adam to Jesus and realized that the “millions of years” didn’t fit. Learning about evolution theory and watching much of Carl Sagan’s cosmos he began to doubt the authenticity of the Bible. At the end of his Freshmen year of college at WVU he entered a period of depression, hopelessness, and thought that life was meaningless and that there was no God and therefore no purpose to life. He rejected the Bible and went down a path of ungodly living. He managed to finish his degree in aerospace engineering and start his engineering career. It wasn’t until he met his wife that he was reintroduced to Jesus Christ and the message of salvation. He eventually put his trust in Christ in the summer of 1996. In the winter of 1999 Scott attended a creation/evolution video seminar at lunch while working at Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis. It changed his life and strengthened his faith. After attending an Answers In Genesis family camp in 2001 Scott was inspired to build a scale model of Noah’s Ark with a friend Mike Bridgewater. Thus began the creation ministry that eventually led to Restoring Genesis Ministries.

Movie from 2013

And here is the Book of Daniel from the Bible itself: Daniel 1:1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9 Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

11 Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

14 So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.

Ezekiel 33:2-9 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

History of the King James Bible: God's Perfect word

in the year 1516 A.D. a man named Erasmus restored the true Greek text from Antioch to the people of Europe.

Two men would make translations to their people from this text. Martin Luther in Germany and William Tyndale in England. Both men
had to disobey the laws of the roman catholic church to make their translations.

The bible that William Tyndale began would eventually become the greatest book in the history of the world.

One evening William Tyndale was having a discussion with a catholic bishop on the authority of scripture.

The bishop said that he respected the word of the pope more than the bible.

To this William Tyndale replied; "I defy the pope and all his laws; if God spare my life ere many years, I will cause a boy
that driveth the plough, shall know more of the scripture than thou dost."

Tyndale's desire was to make the bible available in english instead of the latin bibles used by the catholic clergy to keep the people in
bondage.

in 1534 he translated the new testament into english from the greek text of Erasmus. In 1536 William Tyndale was executed by the Roman catholic church.

His crime? Giving the people in England the word of God in their own language.

A tyrannical church like Rome could not have their authority undermined by an english bible. William Tyndale had to be killed if the pope wanted to remain in control of the people of England. William Tyndale's dying words were "Lord open the king of England's eyes"
He was then strangled and his body set on fire.

In the year 1604 A.D. King James the first of England authorized a translation of the holy bible into the english language. 54 of Europe's greatest scholars were gathered together for this monumental task which would take seven years to complete. Men like Lancelot Andrews who could speak 15 languages and wrote his own private devotional books in Greek. Henry Seville was Greek and mathematical tutor to queen Elizabeth. John overall was an expert on the early church fathers. These 54 men were separated into six groups. Two at Cambridge, two at Westminister, and two at Oxford.

The translators would use the Greek text of Stephanus which was an updated copy of the Erasmus text this Greek text is known today as the Textus Receptus.

Over the next seven years these men would translate and design the greatest book of all time. Each book of the bible had to pass 14 tests before it was accepted as scripture. The authorized version was completed in 1611. This great bible is commonly known today as the King James Version.

William Tyndale's dying prayer to God had been answered.

English speaking people all over the world finally had the Word of God in their own language.

Did Catholics really kill 95 million people? - The Myth of the Spanish Inquisition by Pro Truth
