Ed KernHow to fix the HDMI switching issue that plagues the TX-SR606, HT-R960, and HT-R667 receivers. To fix it you will need 5 x 100uf at least 4v, which I got from mcmelectronics(.com), part number 31-8160. Others have purchased 100uf 35v electrolytic capacitors from Radio Shack (P/N 272-1028) for $1.29, with good results. Just be sure to put the negative side of the capacitor (it is marked) on the square side of the stamp on the circuit board where the old capacitor was removed. Also, some have reported that the handshake works after the fix but that they still have trouble with OSD. Some users have tried replacing all the 100uf caps and reported that it fixed the OSD problem.
If you try the repair, please comment on what was happening before and after replacing the caps. For example (mine):
Before: The receiver would take 5-10 min to hook up with the TV. Neither the video nor sound would work until the connection to the TV was made. The On Screen Display (OSD) didn't work, and component video in would not work going out HDMI to the TV. The problems all started at different times, and got worse over time.
After: HDMI handshake now works properly and connects after a second or two (so everything connects quickly). Component video and OSD work fine.

I got a lot of my information from a book called "Natural Terrariums" by Phillip Perser. I would highly recommend buying the book.
I don't talk about the cost of building a terrarium because the cost depends on your creativity. You could build a terrarium for a few bucks or if you're feeling saucy you could empty your bank account.
We built this terrarium using an 18"x18"x24" Exo-Terra glass terrarium.Fatal Currents - Low Head Dam PresentationEd Kern2013-08-19 | http://krcproject.groups.et.byu.net/Mantidfly - Looks like Praying Mantis and WaspEd Kern2011-09-17 | This little guy is a mantidfly, and is a wasp mimic. I named him Tyler Durden. Tyler Durden is totally harmless, but looks way awesome. I had him for four days. Tyler is not afraid of anything, you can pick him up and he doesn't even react. I fed him about a half dozen flies before I let him go. I only saw him fly once, and that is when he flew away, never to be seen again.
I have no idea whether this mantidfly was really male or female.
The video was filmed with a Canon SX-20IS. Nothing fancy, but the macro focus on it is great. I found Tyler in my back yard in Provo, UT.

This is 922(r) complaint (complies with federal laws). If would probably be wise to check state legislation before converting your rifle.
Admissions: I shouldn't have used the drill for the tapping. I should take it slower when drilling out rivets. I am using an awl instead of a center punch. This was done in the wee-hours of the morning and I was willing to sacrifice an awl to get it done. How to Change the Front Sight on a Ruger SP101 - By EdEd Kern2011-05-26 | Things you'll need:
1/16" Drill Bit 1/16" Steel Punch Soft face Mallet Blue Loctite Vice with Soft Jaws (Flexbar soft jaws ~ $20) New Front Sight (Trijicon RR14F ~ $45)
Don't do this with a metal hammer, you'll probably just mar up your gun. You can also use a brass punch, but I bought a low quality steel punch at harbor freight, and immediately buckled the thing. I bought a three piece steel punch set at home depot for less than $10, and it worked great. The new sights are a lot more accurate than the factory sights. The factory were 3 inches low and 1 inch left at 15 yards, new sights are 1/2 inch low at 10 yards (158 grain, no-name .357 magnum rounds). Also the groups with the new sights are much tighter due to better sight acquisition.

Tried 91% isopropyl alcohol and it was much more impressive. 70% works really well too.
Disclaimer: This is unsafe. Don't do this under any circumstances ... but if you do, I wouldn't recommend using anything more flammable than isopropyl alcohol or you risk burning your face off, which is not fun. Also isopropyl alcohol is not for drinking, so spit it out, otherwise you'll get an upset tummy, which is not fun. If you do it indoors, I reserve the right to laugh when you burn your house down, because if you're that stupid it probably won't end well for you. Don't do it with gas or you will definitely burn your face off, and again I'll laugh at you. The bottom line is please avoid being stupid.DIY Reptile Egg Incubator - By Ed and AustonEd Kern2010-02-07 | This is an incubator designed for reptile eggs. Be sure to do plenty research before letting your reptiles do the horizontal hula.
Auston bred snakes, namely Diamond x Jungle x Jag, and and Irian Jaya. The Jag clutch had 15 eggs, and he got 10 jags and 5 sibs. He had 2 sets of twins, and 2 eggs that didn't hatch. One of the failed eggs had triplets in it that depleted the yolk before full development. He only got one good egg from the IJ clutch this year, but it hatched out just fine.DIY Live Rock - by EdEd Kern2009-05-25 | This is a video about how I make DIY rocks for my aquarium. Basically you use three ingredients: 3 parts crushed oyster shells, 1 part white portland cement #1-2, and 2 parts rock salt. Mix and mold. Cure the cement in cold water. Then to make it live, cycle it with a live rock from a friends aquarium of the local fish store.
To make sure the rocks don't fall apart the water to cement ratio (weight ratio) should be about 1 part water, 2 parts cement. Too much water severely weakens the cement.
Before putting the rock in an established tank, test the pH of the water the cement has been curing in to make sure that the rock won't raise the pH of your system. The pH of the curing water should have a salinity at of very near 0 (SG of 1), and the pH should be no higher than the pH of your tank, but preferably lower.
