This led to looking at how they are trained, and finding they are basically lambs to the slaughter. Incompetent training, taught to 'diagnose' rising damp, and making complex legal decisions about how people live, and how to treat landlords, based on complete bullshit. See our websites at www.heritage-house.org, and www.heritage-survey.org...Damp Cellar Part 2Peter Ward2020-01-14 | Now we had down into the cellar to look at the ventilation. By now you will realise that I hate tanking. In about 99% of times, tanking and cement render is not needed. What IS needed is a systematic approach - get it breathing, test progress, see if it dries out, and if not, why? Then come up with options. This is a truly wet cellar that runs water, but I am still drying it out. Beautiful, but neglected, and victim of considerable illegal works that will take a lot of work to put right. I show you how we survey them, what to look for, and reveal some of the dreadful practises that take place when builders and owners 'get away with it'. The new owner of this home will be undertaking a sensitive restoration project, and we hope to follow the process after he takes ownership. This was one of the first surveys done on Orleton, and interesting to look back on, given the scale of the project now.

It also shows just how much dampness can come from a backfilled chimney - nearly 50 sacks of rubble, mostly wet soot and ash full of salts came out of it. Now we'll see the house start to dry properly. It will have a stainless steel liner fitted, and woodburning stove. One delighted client! www.heritage-house.orgRentokilPeter Ward2018-02-19 | Totally un necessary - You NEVER need to use chemicals to treat timber. This is old stuff - but just goes to show what horrible chemicals our houses are treated with. Historic England research, and much other work, all say - chemical treatment never needed, to stop timber problems, just dry the timber. Dry timber does NOT get attacked by beetle, fungus, or anything else. This video shows a stack of kingspan being burned in my woodburner - lit with a few sheets of paper from the office waste paper bin. You need to understand what makes a joint - how structural is the timber you are looking at? Is the timber original? What is causing damage and why? What will it cost to repair? What is causing movement? It is not hard to run up a bill for £100,000 on a timber frame - our job is to make sure that you are well informed when purchasing a new home, or get it right when specifying repairs to an existing house.
