These were Colt’s first cartridge conversions, and, I believe they are the most elegant Colt revolvers ever produced.

The .44-40 started out as the proprietary .44 Winchester Centerfire (.44 WCF) in 1873, but by the end of the 19th century it was America’s universal cartridge. Every major gun maker chambered their rifles and revolvers to take this iconic round.

It was a five-shot, .36 caliber revolver built on the ,31 caliber, Model 1849 frame, to produce a reasonably powerful, but compact carry gun.

I’ll be comparing this gun that was built in 2023 to the same model made 25 years earlier in 1998 to see if Uberti’s quality has changed in 25 years.
Then will take it out to the range.
I made some modifications that allowed paper cartridges to be easily loaded in the Uberti 1860 revolver. I also made some other modifications that improved the function and reliability of this gun.
Unfortunately, YouTube considers gun modifications to be evil, and I don’t want the video taken down.
So, if you want to see these mods, you can watch the full version of this video on Rumble.

This war was fought in an attempt to secure a road to the Montana gold fields that went through some prime hunting country of the Ogallala Sioux, and their allies.
The Fetterman Massacre was the most famous battle in that war, where Capt Fetterman’s command was wiped out to a man.
In this video, we’ll look at the weapons used on both sides of that fight.

As many of you already know, the Zoning Board of North Hopewell, PA has accused me of “Operating a shooting range” at My Duelist’s Den property.
The ordnance they are applying to me is clearly intended to regulate commercial shooting ranges, or large gun clubs. They do not seem to be intended for an individual land owner, shooting on his own property.
Ken Hill had graciously set up a Go Fund Me page to help with my legal bills. To date we have received about $60,000 in donations. So, we have stopped accepting donations.
Thank you all for your support. It has literally been unbelievable!
Our next Zoning Board hearing is 12 April 2023. It will probably be the end of April before I hear anything. I’ll keep you informed.
Thank you all for your support…both financial, and encouragement. I am truly humbled by how much you have helped me.
This is a three-part series with the following Episodes:
1. The Cap & Ball era
2. Cartridge Conversions
3. 1875 to 1890 Army revolvers
Today we will be presenting episode two, which will cover the evolution of Remington’s Army and Navy cartridge conversion revolvers. These were cap & ball revolvers that were converted by the Remington factory to fire metallic cartridges.

The ordnance they are applying to me is clearly intended to regulate commercial shooting ranges, or large gun clubs. They do not seem to be intended for an individual land owner, shooting on his own property.
They are doing this to me despite the fact that only I shoot on my property…no guests.
And despite the fact I only shoot there about once a week, during the warm months, and that I almost always shoot in the middle of the week, when people are working, so as not to disturb anyone.
The Acting Zoning Officer told me he didn’t care if I only shot there once a year. He would still close me down.
Since all my neighbors also shoot and hunt, this seems like a targeted action, specifically aimed at me, and I am determined to fight it.
I retained a law firm that specializes in municipal law, and they are preparing my appeal.
Because they are specialists, they are very expensive. My life savings is rapidly depleting, but I do not want to go down without a fight.
Ken Hill has graciously set up a Go Fund Me page to help with my legal bills.
I hate to ask for help, but I can’t do this on my own.
I would be very grateful for any help you can provide .
Thank you.

This is the gun that started Colt’s 2nd generation of cap & ball revolvers. Some experts consider it to be the best of the best, when it comes to 2nd and 3rd generation Colt black powder revolvers, and I agree.
In this video I’ll discuss the history of the gun. I’ll demonstrated loading, both with loose round balls, and with paper cartridges. And I’ll shoot the gun.
